TVD’s 4th season starts not so much with a bang but with a “Well, it was better than the season 3 premier.” Elena’s in transition and has an awkward Jessie Spano moment (if you don’t know, google Jessie Spano I’m so excited), an efficient Council member gathers 2/3 of the triangle and would’ve killed them if it wasn’t for a sudden deus ex machina that turned him into the “overzealous religious man who spews cult rhetoric” who blew himself up, Matt’s character gets assassinated, Bonnie destroys her grandmother’s soul, and JAJP has a new segment.

So excited to listen to the podcast, but before I do can I just address the little Caroline/Elena “rare moment of [discord]” spoiler for a sec? Um…Why is the show working overtime on this relationship? Am I supposed to really care that Caroline and Elena will have a disagreement when it’s been pretty apparent that their moments of “getting along” are the rare occurances and not when they disagree? Maybe I’m just bitter because I want so badly for Bonnie to have better friendships (with either Caroline or Elena) and she should be in the position that they constantly have Caroline in in Elena’s life, but instead we get these moments between Caroline and Elena that will only allow them to grow closer in the end. When I say that Bonnie and Elena’s friendship needs to grow, this is what I mean. They are stuck in their season 1 friendship/dynamic and unfortunately that no longer has any relevance on who they’ve become over the years. I need to see a real moment of tension between Bonnie and Elena NOT Elena and Caroline.
Thats exactly what I was thinking, also wasnt there an interview with JP that said someting about Caroline understanding Elena’s feelings for Damon due to her situation with Klaus or whatever:rolleyes: So I guess they can also bond over that.

Honestly if this wasnt a supernatural show and was just about the triangle, Bonnie and Elena’s friendship would have been over a long time ago.
I would actually love if Bonnie got to interact with other people, if anything would love to see her and Rebecca interact but we all know that cannot happen because Bonnie has to wait in the background waiting until they need her help.

Nope. Not even after Damon killed Bonnie’s mother for Elena’s sake. If ever there was a time for them to have a heart to heart, that was it.

Me too. I wouldn’t even mind an acquaintance with Rebekah if they did it right. I want Bonnie to meet people at the college. I had it in my head that she’d go to campus for a tour or something and that’s how she got invited to the Halloween party. She’d invite Matt to come with her because he’s been down in the dumps (and she knows it’s not safe to go to a college party by herself). She would just happen to Elena and Damon while she was there. Lol.
Why is the show working overtime on this relationship?
Because they’re JP’s girls. It’s no longer a case where Bonnie is the one in the middle of both of them, or even a shifting thing where they take turns being in the middle. It’s obvious that JP gives them more interactions, if not more substance. And because of that, because I know JP is making them interact more because they’re her faves (evidenced by the fact that they both have multiple guys after them and now both have triangles, + JP has said she can see Caroline becoming second female lead by the show’s end), I can’t help put find their friendship something worthy of my condescension. And let’s be real, JP has succeeded (when it comes to promotion) in making Caroline the second female lead. Not that that bothers me wrt Bonnie. It would only bother me if Caroline was getting quality stuff as the second female lead. And she isn’t.

To be fair when has Elena ever cared or even paid attention to what Bonnie does? We talked about this on FF but has Elena ever been there when Bonnie has done the bigger/dangerous spells? She just asks Bonnie or the brothers ask Bonnie for her and thats it.
IDk I think it was the camera work that made the scene awkward when Elena was laughing/crying the whole zoom in and super zoom in her face was just distracting.
Haha about Stefan, I actually think that is all Paul we all know how he hates the show lol.

About Pastor Young, I know JP mentioned that we will find out what happened, but I am actually thinking they still dont know themselves Im sure they are brainstorming ideas about that.
Also what annoys me about this except with UJ is why when they manage to get the vampires they lock them up to…? Why not get rid of them quickly what were they waiting for? I know they said that they wanted to capture Damon, Kol and Elijah but if they killed them it will still get the job done and they would be coming for them. I know they need to keep them alive but urgh it is getting annoying.
Also dont forget that Damon was going to kill Tyler I forgot which ep but it was when Bonnie stopped him by giving him an aneurysm.
Lol we all know that the reason they would never do anything to Damon is because they dont want Elena to be sad, Elena’s feelings is the most important thing.
i thought that I was the only one confused about Matt crawling inside the barn it was so random so Elena saved him and then left him to continue her heart to heart with Damon? huh lol.
Unfortunately I have to agree with what you said about Bonnie, considering the spoiler about the nxt ep it is so tiring it is the same thing every single ep. The thing is it is a wrting issue it really is disturbing the lengths she goes to to save Elena, I find it even more hilarious that people try to make it seem she is like the worst friend lol.
But it still doesnt make any sense the whole dark magic because Greta and Maddox also did the whole body swap spell with Alaric/Klaus, wasnt that also dark magic? This was just something the writers came up with and another way to make Bonnie suffer.
Thinking about it that would have been a better sl Bonnie being stuck on the other side.

Is there a reason that Tyler/Bonnie havent had scenes? Even the most important scene when he went to her was off screen.
”Why didnt she throw him across the room?” because the writers love seeing the woman on the show get manhandled I think every girl in the first ep got mistreated somehow.
Lol also I think it was a way for the writers to give a message to the Bonnie/Klaus fans.
I was one of those people too, IDK I think it was just the whole he was all about Caroline in that scene and it just hit me that the writers are actually serious about this 2nd triangle and it just annoyed me lol.
I agree Claire’s scene was really good, it was actually quite sad. I really hope that she is done with him, I think the only people that she should focus on is Elijah and Kol as it seems like they actually care about her.
I think what I love about Rebecca is that she is the only character that cannot stand Elena, was loving all the snark.
I think the issue that I had with Rebecca getting caught was mainly when she was locked up couldnt she have busted out of there? but I guess she had to be there to witness Stefan/Elena’s epic love.
About the magic, Inconsistent writing that is all to it even the vampires super hearing/speed was all over the place in the ep.

Nope. The last time Elena watched Bonnie do a spell was in Fool Me Once when Bonnie and Sheila were trying to open the tomb. She was also there when Bonnie was trying to make the sage spell work. That’s it. And these two are supposed to be best friends.

What Greta and Maddox did should have been Black magic, but sense Julie doesn’t plan anything out, they didn’t qualify it as such. They still haven’t said why the spirits are so concerned with Bonnie using Black magic. Ugh.

The pastor had vervain coming from the air vents, but still. Rebekah should’ve have been affected as quickly. As a matter of fact, she should’ve been able to escape while she was still in the truck.

we were talking about Klaus’s relationships with women and how they’ve never been good. I said Greta and you said, nu-uh cause he didn’t even care about her after she died. then I was like -____-
Lol! Oh yeah. I think Olu interjecting while you were talking? There was something where what you were saying wasn’t coming clear across, so I cut it.
I’m the type of person that never forgets when a person tries to commit suicide. And I still remember when Stefan tried to off himself after the blood arc and the only reason why he didn’t was because of Elena. So whenever I see Stefan I am reminded that he is only here because of her. And she knows this. So when I hear you say that Elena’s ego must be the size of California, I think that this plays a big part in it. So when Stefan acts like a dick, like he did with Matt, I don’t really pay it no mind. Because there is a pathetic self loathing overtone in everything that he does.
I often ask myself, “Is there anyone on this show that has PRIDE.” True pride. No one has the ability to have and maintain a self made honor code, that is unwavering, no matter whose life hangs in the balance. There is practically no one. Not even the adults. Because these characters have no greater cause. The greater good starts and stops with Elena. And that is why Bonnie is willing to kill herself and everyone is willing to let her. Because basically fuck the other 60 billion people on this planet. One Elena equals a million souls.
And can I mention that this show has sucked the fun out of being a vampire. Vampires used to be sexy and alluring and fun and they had no fucks to give. And they could actually live life without having to choose between good and evil. On this show being a vampire means that you hate yourself and angst a lot. And I think that the definition for humanity is wrong. I don’t think that humanity is the ability to feel emotions. I think that humanity is the ability to make a choice based on a moral compass. That’s what makes us human. The ability to choose. So I don’t get how becoming a vampire is supposed to be such a big deal when in all actuality you don’t really loose anything. So why was I supposed to care if Elena transitioned or not.
I didn’t like this episode, because at it’s core it meant nothing. It didn’t teach any lessons or reveal any truths. It was just stupid. There were a few good scenes (Bonnie, Jeremy, Grams, Rebekah) and there were some good lines. But none of it really mattered because it all came back to Elena and her story, at it’s core, meant nothing. So this episode meant nothing.
So I don’t get how becoming a vampire is supposed to be such a big deal when in all actuality you don’t really loose anything.
Olu once commented to me that the vamps on this show are pretty much humans with powers. It doesn’t help that most of them are high school students, most of them are falling in love with powerless teenagers, and none of them have vampire friends. They have vampire families, but not vampire friends. Have we ever seen two or more vampires reminiscing about the things they’ve seen through history? None of them own their ages.

So true. We have Damon an Stefan who are about 162 and 166 (possibly). All the way up to Klaus who is supposed to be a 1000 or whatever. And yet none of them has shown any wisdom whatsoever.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. There’s nothing vampire like about these vampires. And they don’t even really use their powers anyway.
