Fall TV

*Rises from the grave* Hellloooooo!!!!!

This blog’s been pretty dead since the first half of Teen Wolf’s third season ended. But that’s all about to change, because fall is here!

As many of you know, I’m on the market for a new show to obsess over since I’ve ended my severely unhealthy relationship with The Vampire Diaries. I’ve seen the stills for the season premier. I only plan on watching the Bonnie/Jeremy scenes, because I can’t take everyone else anymore. I will sometimes blog about the Beremy scenes if something really good happened (but we all know that it’s more likely that something very bad will happen).

But I’m going to be focusing on greener pastures! First up: Sleepy Hollow premieres next Monday, the 16th at 9pm Central on FOX! (Does this mean it airs at 10pm for me? I’m live in the EST. That would actually be perfect. I’d be home in time to catch it). Anyways, this is the show I’m hoping will take TVD’s place on my roster. Fingers crossed that it’s very good and the network keeps it! I’ve never watched a FOX show, but I hear they have a reputation for canceling shows without really giving them a chance?

Next is a show called Witches of East End. It will start airing on October 6th at 9/8pm Eastern Time. One of the producers worked on Eastwick. I gave that show a chance, but the plot wasn’t going anywhere 6 episodes in, so it got cancelled. A lot of you know I’ve been starving for a show about witches since Charmed ended. This one features, what else, a whole bunch of White women. It’s centered on a White family of witches. I hope the characters are great and that the plot is great so that it can last. The effects look good enough for me! And this airing on Sundays means I’ll be able to catch it every week.

I’ll need a couple of episodes to decide which of the above two shows will get podcast reviews and which will get written reviews, because I do want to review both.  I think I’ll be doing written reviews for both until I decide (or until they get canceled :(, whichever comes first).

Speaking of witches, I’m going to watch American Horror Story this season because, hello, this season is about witches. I’m as predictable as Julie Plec’s writing. I tried watching the show when it premiered, but the plot wasn’t interesting enough for me, and then I heard it got gross. Kathy Bates is playing Madame Lalaurie. Like, she’s playing the actual person who existed in the real world. This woman (Madame Lalaurie) tortured and killed her slaves on the 19th century. So. We’ll see :/. The season premieres on October 9th at 10pm on FX. Teaser number 6 looks incredible! I don’t plan on officially reviewing this one. That would be too much on my plate.

And of course, I’m going to tune in to Scandal, which comes back on October 3rd, and review it with the fabulous Sabrina.

And these are my Fall TV plans. There’s also Almost Human, but it’s a cop show set in the future. It has an angsty White dude (Karl Urban), and a Black guy (which, yay! He’s played by Michael Ealy). Michael Ealy’s character is an android. Aside from one of the leads being a man of color, I have no interest in this show. I’m not into androids, or cops, there’s nothing supernatural, and it’s about testosterone. I am going to give it a chance, though, in support of Ealy. The title seems to have something to do with his character, I’d say. I’ll just make it my “Watch it When I Have Time” show.

Et vous? What are your Fall TV plans? Do they look anything like mine? What other interesting shows are on their way to the small screen? I didn’t even know about Witches of East End until maybe three weeks ago. I almost missed out!

As always, I will change the blog’s current theme as soon as the new shows start airing. So next Monday!

  1. I’m most looking forward to Almost Human because I’ve loved Karl Urban since his Xena days, and I’m into scifi shows and Abrams does them particularly well (and since it’s one of his shows, it will probably end up with a very satisfying, complex mythology). Also, if I really like the show, I’ll probably be writing all the Kennex/Dorian slash.
I’m also looking forward to Sleepy Hollow and Dracula (vampires are to me what witches are to you). I haven’t paid much attention to Witches of East End, though it looks interesting, and I WANT to watch Coven, but the fact that Madame Lalaurie is in it has me afraid there’s going to be a lot of torture porn, and I can’t stomach that.

    • I’ve heard that Fringe had a very good mythology, so it’ll be great if he brings that to Almost Human.

I haven’t heard of Dracula. Where is it airing?

I’m just wondering if anything will be addressed between Madame Lalaurie and the character Angela Bassett will be playing (one based on Marie Laveau), considering…..Lalaurie used to torture and kill women who looked like Bassett’s character.

      • Dracula is going to be on NBC, apparently, so I doubt it will be very risque. Still, it looks interesting.

I’ve never seen anything by Ryan Murphy, so I have no idea what his track record is on stuff like that, whether he can be trusted to address those issues. I’ve been wanting to see American Horror Story for a while and have S1 on DVD, but I’ve been afraid the spousal abuse stuff in S1 would be too triggery for me, and I get really upset by prison and insane asylum plots, even if it’s just a one-off episode in a series, so I’ve been iffy about S2 too.

        • A lot of people I follow on Tumblr cannot stand him, because he’s ignored all the characters of color on Glee. Those who also watch(ed) TVD like to compare him and JP. But we’ll see with AHS. It’s different from Glee, concept-wise, and I guess he already has a whole lot less characters of color to deal with. We’ll see.

Yeah, I heard that season 1 and 2 had some really heavy stuff.

  2. Hey *waves*

I have high hopes for Sleepy Hollow too. Also, I’m really looking forward to the second season of Elementary. I fell for that show hard.

Other than that, I’m planning to check out S.H.I.E.L.D., Dracula and Once Upon A Time In Wonderland. If I’m going to stick with these shows is another question. When looking up the premiere dates for these shows, I also came across a new ABC Family series called Ravenswood, which is a PLL spin-off. I’ve never watched PLL but the premise for Ravenswood sounds interesting. I mean, teen drama mystery-thriller? A town plagued by a mysterious curse? Count me in. The part about the protagonists having to dig into the town’s dark past also reminds me a little bit of S1 TVD. One of the leads is going to be PLL’s Caleb Rivers. Alta, since you watch PLL, please tell me he isn’t a completely unbearable character, lol.

    • Hi!

Yes, Elementary! I forgot to add it, but it’s another show I’ll be coming back too. I still need to watch the last couple of episodes though :/.

HOW DID I FORGET RAVENSWOOD?! Probably because I haven’t finished this season of PLL. I’ve been avoiding all promos for Ravenswood, but I will watch it because I love Caleb. So there’s your answer, lol. Unless the creators do a complete overhaul with him now that he’s a lead instead of a supporting character, then he won’t be unbearable at all. He was a great boyfriend to Hanna (one of the Liars), a good help to the girls once Hanna told him the truth about the mysteries, and he connected with her friends, too!

      • Ok, I read that he was a “bad boy” which gave me a pause because “bad boy” can mean a lot of things these days… So it’s great to hear that you love him. 🙂

        • Yeah, he’s not as privileged as the girls (and pretty much all the other boys) are, speaking on the class level. He’s kind of, “From the wrong side of the tracks.” When we met him, he was charging students to update their phone. I think that was it. It was something illegal. I’m guessing that’s why some people would call him a bad boy. He’s not clean-cut like any of the other boys on the show.

    • I forgot about Ravenswood. I think it looks really interesting, too, even though I haven’t seen PLL. I got a hold of the first two seasons of PLL to check it out.

  3. I’m looking forward to Elementary s2. I might give Sleepy Hollow a shot as well if I’ve got the time. Definitely done with Scandal. I realised the bad outweighs the good for me.
Btw, I would like to recommend to you Downton Abbey. I just watched season 1. I think it’s pretty good.

    Good luck Alta.

      • Yep I know lol. Sorry, I’m currently moving and I had my internships at the hospital. Life and everything lol. Anyways, I hope you’re okay. I wanted to say hi, since I’m not really watching TV anymore. I’ve been mostly reading lately. I just wanted to wish you good luck and let you know I really enjoyed your clever reviews, just basically tell you you’re awesome and I had a great time listenning to what you, Sabrina, Olu and all the people that have expressed themselves on these podcasts had to say. I didn’t stick around for long but I had a lot of fun, so thanks.

        • Thank you so much! This is so sweet.

I hope life is going good for you, too. I’m at an internship, too, but it’ll be over in October. I plan to continue volunteering there when I can, but I’m trying to work out my next step for the future.

  4. Oh Bless! BLESS! Your VD is all cleared up. I mean …
I’ve never watched a FOX show, but I hear they have a reputation for canceling shows without really giving them a chance?
    You mean Firefly? haha
I saw the preivew for the witch show and thought of you.
Me: Oh! Alta oh! *seeing the cast* … oh …
This one features, what else, a whole bunch of White women.
    *gets up and walks out*
American Horror Show … *groan* I can’t with that show but I might have to. :\

    • Cana, you’re alive! *tackle hugs* Did you get my e-mails?

      Lmao @VD.

Is Firefly the only reason why the network has the reputation? If so, that’s a little much.
