In this episode, we get Jennifer’s backstory as well as the point of her (convoluted) plan. Instead of giving us the satisfaction of Derek commenting on Scott being a True Alpha after two seasons of the former trying to be Scott’s Alpha before realizing Scott already had a pack of his own, the show gives the moment to freaking Peter. Finally, both Scott and Stiles stand helpless as Scott’s deepest, darkest fear plays out on the hospital rooftop.
“Because of all of that, I’m frustrated at the fact that time came, moment of truth where Derek finds out that Scott is a True Alpha candidate, and the people in charge of the show didn’t feel like that merited anything. […] Derek has been around; he’s seen Scott grow. He’s been in conflict with Scott because of the qualities that Scott has that now makes him a candidate for True Alpha. […] So then Scott is basically become sort of like a chosen one because of these things he used to clash with Derek over, and Derek has a chance to realize that woah, this is where all of this stuff has led Scott, little old Scott, he’s now a True Alpha, someone who doesn’t have to steal his power. And we got nothing. Even if it comes later, this is a missed opportunity. It’s not gonna have the same effect.”
