I think it is going to be April who will be the new Miss Mystic Falls.
Do you think Gabrielle is playing on of the contestants or just a random girl that is showing up for that dance?
Also what a horrible song they chose for that promo.
Because she is just so saaaad. She needs happiness in her liiiife. And Elena will have a moment where she thinks about how she will never get another chance at being Miss Mystic because she’s a vamp now. April is supposed to be Elena’s mirror, after all.

In that extended promo you see Elena and Damon probably watching that dance they did the last time … do you think they are watching a particular couple? I thought Matt is going to the dance with Elena … according to an interview with Zach, but now I can see that Elena sees that April probably doesn´t have a date (because she is so awkward you know and doesn´t know how to ask anybody) while Elena and Caroline help her to find a dress and asks Matt to dance with April. Or maybe even Caro asks him to go to the dance with her.

I think, in that respect, the writers realize how much of a special snowflake Elena already is. So they weren’t going to let her win Miss Mystic. Or homecoming queen. Or prom queen if they ever have it. ‘Cause everyone in the cast already treasures her, so I think the writers want to stay away from having the entire town or student body treasure her too.
But you’re right that April hasn’t been involved in anything, and they showed in season 1 that you needed to be very involved.

April, even though the pageant requires you to have a date. When Matt was working in season 1, Caroline danced with some nameless boy. But April has a crush on Matt, so she’ll probably end up dancing with him.
About you other two questions:
I thought that he maybe does the vampire hunter defence training for himself now and then is reminded of those training sessions with Elena and gets all depressed, Your explanation is funnier.
Maybe it is because of the cure and he wants to find more info? Or he really wants to leave but then Elena and Damon stop him from doing it. IDK.

Stefan already knows how to fight, so if that’s what he’s doing, he’s probably doing it to pass the time.

I assumed she was holding a cell phone, but you’re right, she’s holding a gauze to her neck. I wonder why. She’s a vamp, so nobody’s going to be biting her anymore. Unless her and Damon want to be “intimate,” but I don’t think that’s what’s happening in the still.
I’ll say, though, that if Stefan is trying to leave MF, I think he’s more serious about it than Damon was.
Phoebe Tonkin tweeted bunches about the Mystical Falls pageant. Is she in it? Even though she’s not from mystic falls?

I´m a little bit confused about that part of the synopsis:
Damon (Ian Somerhalder) tries to convince Stefan to help him uncover Prof. Shane’s (guest star David Alpay) motives
Since when is Damon again interested in what happened with those council members because he is now only interested in Shane because of that connection to Pastor Young, wasn´t he happy about the death of the council members or at least neutral to that?
And also it makes no sense for me to confront this guy without having Bonnie in the episode. She is the one that built up a connection to him. But you know Caroline Dries is famous for stuff like that … look at episode 14 and that ridiculous Original Ball.
I think he wants to know what Pastor Young’s letter was talking about, because he told Meredith that he thought the “Greater evil” thing was weird.
Ugh. The only reason I’m okay with Shane being in this episode while Bonnie is gone is that, unlike Jeremy, Shane just got here, and we haven’t spent a season (like happened with Jeremy) getting to know him, what he’s like, etc, so he needs to be able to exist outside of Bonnie. As long as they don’t make a habit out of it or start giving him more episodes than Bon, then I’m waiting to see.

Deliver me from the evil that is the writing in this scene. Okay. Is it Caroline or is it Candice? I don’t like what the show is doing. This is worse than Delena in terms of the show wanting to play both sides, and it’s because of how they’re writing Caroline. Elena has it better, imo. Caroline is talking to Klaus like, like…like he isn’t Klaus! Like he’s Tyler! Seriously, take Klaus out and put Tyler in. Or Matt. What, in Caroline’s demeanor and way of speaking, would change? She talks and acts like this is just banter. So I ask again: is it Caroline or is it Candice’s acting + delivery? Or is it the writing? Or all three?
I dont know what to think I am thinking it is the writing. As Kathrin mentioned they are the new Delena, wasnt there a spoiler a while back that said something about Caroline seeing Elena’s prespective in the triangle due to her and Klaus? lol well clearly the writers are trying hard.
It is even more hilarious that he takes Caroline to a hs beauty pagent it is so sad.
Yeah, JP did say that Klaus was pretty much Caroline’s Damon, which is so incredibly stupid from every angle.
I have the feeling it is both the writing and Candice. Everytime I see her interacting with Klaus I remember how in episode 18 you could definitely see in Kat´s face that she hated this character and that she was bothered by him, here in those scenes with JoMo and Candice it´s just like a normal day in school for Caroline. I get that those are two totally different situations but it just bothers me that they are acting like they didn´t try to kill him maybe two weeks ago and that he bargained a date with the life of a hybrid yesterday (or whatever the timeline is).
Also I´m bothered by dorky!cute Klaus and this pout-face in the end or what they are trying to imply with it.

Klaus didn’t know Stefan was lying to him back in season 3. He didn’t suspect that Esther might be trying to kill him after he killed her. I’m sure he thinks the breakup is real. He’s very gullible.

I’m a little iffy on Tyler going to the pageant with Hayley, simply because, if Caroline is jealous, there’s a major chance it will be played like Hayley’s the problem and not Caroline’s attitude about Chris.

Klaus looked towed up in his suit. I cracked up when he started talking about a humming bird. What in the world?
Caroline. Caroline, Caroline, Caroline. It was like there was something wrong with her in this episode, not Elena. She was screeching at everyone. She’s like that friend that you wish would get a life so that they can stop being all up in your business.
Caroline was like, “I’m her friend, so what I want trumps what she wants.” She wouldn’t even hear Elena out. Had no consideration for her while acting like she had all the consideration for her. And in the end, the show gave her all of the leeway with the sire nonsense. It was disturbing how unconcerned she was about Elena as a person. Stefan told her that Klaus wanted Elena human so that he could use her body, and Caroline didn’t even blink.
The way I see it, she’s more concerned about Stefan’s happiness than she is about Elena’s.
I feel like Candice played Caroline’s happiness with Klaus as completely genuine. Lord, when Bonnie “jokes” with Damon, you at least still get the sense, on a good day, that she’d kill him if JP wasn’t writing her. Candice has completely given up, apparently.
Stefan was ratchet as hell. As hell! He’s such a goon.
JEREMY! Oh my God. Jeremy and Shane made this episode for me. I love the line he said in the dream. If only he could say that in real life. HE STABBED STEFAN!!! I teared up, you guys. I hope he never apologizes for it.
SHANE!!!! Oh my God, he was amazing. He spout off so many good lines. He cracked me up when he said he had to go award a scholarship. I love him.
So he knows Hayley and he’s in this “break the sire” bond business. I don’t know why. Is he trying to kill Klaus? Will Damon wonder about this or is he too much of an idiot?
Matt said, “I’m human, Jeremy, and I’m telling you not to kill her.” What does that even mean? Sit down, Matt.
This episode was very entertaining. Shane and Jeremy made it.

But also JoMo. Those Klaroline scenes looked like Candice and JoMo were hanging out together onscreen. Especially in that scene were he read that Miss Mystic Falls application out loud.
I think that was the first time I wanted Caroline and Matt to just die in this episode. Caroline was so annoying and loud and everything and Matt and that bromance talk with Jeremy and him moving in. I just don´t wanna see this.
Caroline really was loud as heck.

And that´s one of the most annoying parts of the interview:
The reason we kept the hybrid storyline alive this year and kept it sort of front and center was in order to create that context for the audience so that when we found out Elena was sired, it would all make sense.
So we only have this stuff because of Elena? It isn´t even because of Tyler and his new motivations for his “pack”
When I read that, I was like, “I have a pretty good memory, JP. You didn’t need to keep Klaus and the Hybrids around for me to remember how that story played out.”

I’d almost forgotten about this show (!!) until I came home last night and saw it on my DVR. I hesitated even watching it knowing that Bonnie wouldn’t be in, but bad habits die slow deaths so here I am with my version of a recap…
1.) I’m starting with the whole Damon/Elena business because this irked me the most about this episode. Don’t ever call me a Delena fan, but the 3 year progression of their relationship and Elena’s evolving feelings for Damon felt completely spat on in this episode. I hated that love scene between the 2 of them because while most people found it hot (and under normal circumstances it would have been) I just found myself so grossed out by the idea that Elena is not in her right mind and is “sired” therefore irrevocably compelled to give Damon anything he wants. He wants it, She wants it. It tainted the entire scene for me and I couldn’t feel it thinking that somehow Elena was being taken advantage of. I don’t want to use the word “rape” because I do feel like if Elena had been in her right mind and no mention of the word ‘sire’ had ever breathed life into that scene, that Elena’s choice to have sex with Damon would still have been totally legit. They showed it in season 3 when they were at the hotel that Elena in her right mind can and will make the choice to sleep with Damon because those are her feelings now. The Sire Bond bs is cheap, gross and lazy. They didn’t need it to explain what I saw as a natural, progressive and necessary step in Damon and Elena’s relationship, and in fact it would have been a better move for the triangle if that moment had been untainted with all that crap and an honest expression of Elena’s confounding attachment to 2 different people would finally breathe legitimate life. Maybe the Sire Bond will turn out to be fake like everything else in this show? elejele
2.) Good lord, Caroline. I liked her in the last episode because I loved that they made her somewhat imperfect in her jealousy of Tyler/Hayley and I was allowed (thanks Show) to disagree and even dislike (!) Caroline a little. But this episode took my dislike, smuthered it in bacon fat, rolled it in hot margarine, peppered some lemon juice on it and cooked it at a slow boil. I mean it tastes so damn good, but I’m still being forced to chew and swallow fatty hate. lol Caroline should have her own damn life. period. Elena is an 18 year old teenage girl who is not only required and expected to make a few mistakes while going through “growing pains” but has every right to make them. Caroline trying to preemptively strike any and every bad move that Elena could possibly make in her life is not healthy for anyone involved. GET A LIFE CAROLINE! That’s really what it boils down to. Elena has a right to make her own mistakes and she has a right to learn and grow from them. Being a good friend means giving advice when needed and looking out for a friend when necessary, not being a parole officer to every facet of a person’s life. Take a step back, Caroline, and worry about your own problems (trust me you’ve got plenty).
3.) Jeremy is really getting interesting, isn’t he? It’s still weird to me seeing him on my screen doing this completely separate from Bonnie because I’m so used to ‘Bonnie and Jeremy’ all day everyday that they’ve somewhat become a single character in my head, but if Bonnie is allowed to break that pack and go off on a journey (fingers crossed!) with Shane, then I’m glad that Jeremy is at least doing something tangible in the meantime. His hatred to Vampires is coming along quite nicely, isn’t it? I didn’t expect for him to turn on Elena so quickly, that felt a bit forced, but I loved him getting the narration he should have had from the beginning. Stab Stefan! Stab Damon! Kill Klaus! And please don’t aplogize for it. I know he will, he won’t have a choice, but I’m going to enjoy the moment while it’s still new. I remember back in my shipper days (lol yesterday) wanting Bonnie and Jeremy to team up on some hot vampire hunting shit, and with Jeremy’s new super strength and slick moves (a mini stake in the wrist cuff???DAMN) and Bonnie’s rediscovering of her magic maybe that secret dream could come true?
4.) OHmy gawd! Funniest bit in the entire episode? “I guess you’ll do” lolololololol No, I mean when April saw Matt at the bottom of the stairs instead of Jeremy and Matt said something about Jeremy being unavailable and she’d have to make do with him and she said that line I swear I thought she’d had an orgasm right then and there! “I guess you’ll dooo” the way she stuttered on “do” and lost her breath before she was done speaking. lol Be less obvious April, geez.”I guess you’ll do” will be my new Tumblr heading as soon as I can log into my Tumblr.
5.) Oh Shane you’re so creepy. I don’t even care much that he’s ruining my Shennett feels with every episode he’s in, I love his creepiness. He’s so prepared and smart and ready. This looks like a well oiled plan that’s been in the works for a long, long time. Mystic Falls aint ready.
6.) As always needs more Bonnie. They moved a tiny milistep forward in her plotline and she wasn’t even allowed to be in the episode. They better not kill her off this season before fully giving her the treatment she deserves because I swear if I’ve wasted 3 years of my life for that shit, nobody will hear the end of it.
The Sire Bond bs is cheap, gross and lazy. Yes. This sire bond is just a way to keep the triangle going for 17 more seasons because it’s put off Elena choosing Damon.
This is the show’s big ship. It has been since season 2 when the writers got bored of Stelena and fell in love with Damon’s pain. They’ve had more stuff written for them than Stelena has, as of season 2. And they finally sleep together, and I wasn’t even sure if it was real or a dream. I think it happened a little too quick, in terms of the moments before. Even with the siring, they could’ve had them say something before going to bed.
They did the scene a disservice by including the sire bond. I’m not talking about Elena’s consent basically disappearing because she only wants what Damon wants. It’s not just the consent, it’s the easiness of it. I think Damon would’ve said something. He’s desperate, which is why he would’ve double checked to make sure this is happening. They could’ve still had Elena go through with it, just have Damon question it. Instead he just accepted that this was coming easy for him. Seeing as he doesn’t know about the compulsion, it’s a little off for his character.

Elena isn’t nearly as involved in these peoples’ lives as they are in hers. Elena doesn’t try to keep Caroline from making mistakes. She doesn’t try to keep Bonnie from experiencing the harshness of life. She’s not here for Jeremy after people have screwed with his mind (she’s usually the one directing them to screw with him) or when he’s going through a tough time, but he’s willing to lose his mind to save her.
It’s funny that Elena said, “Jeremy’s been dreaming about killing vampires, and he’s been keeping it from me.” Jeremy never tells her anything. She’s not in Jeremy’s life, so this isn’t new. She didn’t know that Connor had spoken to Jeremy. She didn’t know that Jeremy was seeing ghosts. She didn’t know that Jeremy had been hanging out with Tyler. She didn’t know that Jeremy was starting to develop feelings for Bonnie.
I remember back in my shipper days (lol yesterday)

I won’t Bonnie and Shane to sleep together now more than ever. I loved his condescension towards Damon. He was amazing. All of his lines were great.
This show could’ve done the incredible and had Jeremy kill off Elena. Then boom new and exciting plots emerge. It’s not like the actress couldnt still play katherine or a resurected elena a season later. But that would only happen if the show was like Lost or The Sopranos or some show like that.
Or they could have had him kill off Stefan – and then focused on DE/their sire bond and have Klaus be the one looking for the cure. It’s not like Stefan is necessary for the plot of this show.
I agree with everything you and Renina wrote about this terrible sire bond business/the triangle. Yes, it’s definitely there to prolong the triangle and leave the door open for a SE reunion. But I think it’s even more. Like, I get the feeling that the writers are under the impression that the DE ship is mainly defined by two things:
a) It being a ‘tragic’ relationship. By this I mean that they seem to love that Damon repeatedly gets ‘almost’ chosen but there’s always an obstacle in the way. (And then we get a pan on Damon’s single tear of man pain.) So I think they would be happy to have that ship be the big, unfulfilled romance of the show – and Damon as a ~tragic figure who could’ve been either the best or the worst.
b) this whole “will they/wont’ they” thing. A great amount of this ships consists of the anticipation. When will they first kiss? When will Elena initiate the first kiss? When will she tell him that she loves him for the first time? etc. It’s also something which gets them a lot of coverage in the media. So, and what if they got together? I feel like these writers would be quickly at a loss at what do with them – other than break them up again – (the same problem they have with every other relationship on that show, let’s be real) and they know that. And since it’s this show’s big ship, they try to stay clear of that ‘danger’ imo.
So I’d say it’s not just the focus on the triangle why we get things like this sire bond nonsense but also the writers’ vision for the DE ship.
And now I don’t even know why I wrote all this stuff. I originally came here to rant…
I agree with you on how the writers view DE. They’re definitely in love with the “obstacles” in DE’s way, probably more than they’re in love with them actually getting together. Which leads me to number 2,
I really don’t think this show knows how to write a relationship. I mean for goodness, their main relationship is in the form of a triangle! Which means that their main relationship is unstable, whether it’s SE or DE. No matter how much they say, in interviews, that SE are soulmates, SE can’t be happy because there must always be the underlying threat of DE.
I think the closest the show’s come to writing a relationship is Forwood and what did that relationship consist of? What did that ship do for either member? And what are they doing to it now with the introduction of Klaroline? And for what reason?
At first I was certain that the writers liked JM/Klaus but now I am not so certain what is up with his lines? lol I feel so sorry for him. Horses and now hummingbirds lool I dont even know what to say just keep on laughing.
Oh I’m sure they like him. That’s why they’re writing this stuff for him. They like Ian and remember how they had Damon crying every two episodes in season 2.
To them, this is how an infatuated Klaus acts. He’s ooc, but hey can’t destroy Caroline’s character. Or something. It’s like a severe version of what happened to Tyler so Forwood could happen.
So I had a thought before the start of the weekend but was away for the weekend, but now I found time post my thoughts in english.
Before the episode aired there was a spoiler that a pairing/scene would mirror the DE dance from the last MMF pageant. So now we know it´s Matt/April and their dance scene.
But then I thought more about this and realized that the writer of this episode (Caroline Dries who was the same who wrote 1×19) blatantly copied the plot from 1×19 and used it for 4×07 but this time for another triangle.
Stefan/Elena/Damon turned into Jeremy/April/Matt
April is human!Elena (JP said so from the start of her showing up in Mystic Falls) but totally out of the supernatural stuff. Jeremy (just like Stefan in 1×19) was supposed to be her date but because of his vampire killing spree and his problems with the dreams (ripper/bloody!Stefan) he couldn´t make it and somebody had to step in Matt (1×19 Damon) and do the dance with April. Then later in the episode we see how concerned Matt is about what is going on with Jeremy and wants to tell people about what is going on with him (the same goes for Damon in 1×19) and when it came to the scene where Jeremy tries to stake his sister (remember the scene in the woods with the triangle and Bonnie in 1×19) Matt tries to stop him from doing it and talks to him (just like Damon did) but he fails and in the end somebody else has to step in and saves the dramatic situation … in 4×07 it was Stefan who stopped Jeremy from doing it in 1×19 it was Bonnie with her using that aneurysms on Stefan.

Lmao. You’re right about how what happened in this episode echoed what happened in 1.19. The only thing that’s missing are April and Jeremy’s interest in each other like DE were interested in each other at the time.
Honestly, when JP said a pairing/scene would mirror the DE dance, I thought she was talking about the DE dance from this episode. Lol. You know JP has a weird sense of what poetry is, so when she said “mirror” I assumed she meant the same two people from last time would dance again. Lol.
