Teen Wolf: S02E04 Abomination

It feels like it’s been a long time since I put up a new post. Such are hiatuses.

Anyways, new Teen Wolf episode tonight! Now I don’t plan on doing a podcast for this show, but posting about it every week will at least keep the blog active since I’m not going to start rewatching season 3 of TVD until I finish this fic I’ve been working on since about 3.20.

(EDIT: I’m opening this post now because I won’t be watching the show live at 10pm EST. I’ll be exercising.) But Bianca Lawson starts her stint on the show tonight as the guidance counselor! It seems she’ll only be around for 4 episodes though. Boooo. I hope her character gets to interact with Derek and the coach. I don’t ask for much.

Feel free to talk about your favorites and least favorites! Do you ship? If so, what are your ships? How do you feel about the new characters? How do you feel about the new season? Do you struggle to take Derek seriously? Can you count the ways in which Danny is flawless?

Also, I’m not drowning in this show’s Fandom like I am in TVD’s, but I hear things. I see things. Please don’t come here to hate on Scott and call him dumb because Stiles is oh so much better. Okay? Thank you. You can not like Scott and you can find him irritating. But don’t be all Fandom-y about it.

  1. I’ll start.

I love everyone on the show. Except for Jackson this season. It’s not that I hate or even dislike him, but I do grimace when he comes onscreen this season. He wasn’t like this in early season 1. I don’t understand his problem. He truly lost me when he didn’t care about Lydia being missing. I mean there’s being an asshole and then there’s being a sociopath. I don’t understand anything about his desire to be more than mortal. Fandom has made something up about how he’s adopted and insecure and that’s why. Well that needs to become canon because I haven’t heard Jackson say any such thing on the show.

There’s also Stiles. Stiles has been a little “off” for me so far this season. I can’t exactly say why. Hopefully he’ll get better for the rest of the episodes and I won’t have to figure out what it is.

I love Derek. I laugh at him most of the time. He was completely inappropriate with Erica in the hospital. Creep.

I like the new characters fine. I’m not in love with any of them right now, though I would appreciate it if they gave Boyd the depth and screen time they gave to Isaac and Erica in their episodes. I’ll side-eye if they don’t. Boyd wants friends. Why does he want friends so badly? Did something happen to him? Because the others had things that really messed with their self-esteems.

Danny is flawless in everything he does, every look he gives, and everything he says. That is all.

I ship Scott/Allison. That’s it. I liked Derek/Kate. I want Danny to get a boyfriend. Stiles/Lydia…..like, I don’t care right now, and I can’t remember if I ever did. I shipped Jackson/Lydia in early season 1. I loved that they were both assholes.

I love season 2 so far. I love Scott’s new look.

    • Agree with all your thoughts. Except maybe Danny. I just don’t see enough of him to have formed this attachment everyone else has *shrug*. He’s amused me a little though.

Also, here for all of Scott’s glory, obviously.

      • I like that he’s kind of become a staple of the show instead of a one-off character. The Armani scene was Scott was hilarious.

I love everyone, but he’s my favorite character. And Allison comes in second.

    • I don’t think I ship anything yet, but Scott and Allison are nice.

Jackson … ugh I’m still waiting. I need explanations. Same for Boyd. Why weren’t Scott and Stiles hanging out with him?

      I like the music?

    • There’s also Stiles. Stiles has been a little “off” for me so far this season. I can’t exactly say why.

I don’t like how he is around Lydia. The show is really pushing the idea that he is such a ~nice guy and so right for her – especially when compared to mean and abusive Jackson. It seems, to me, that he is in scenes that Allison should be in. She should be checking on Lydia. They are bffs after all. Why was he sleeping in the hospital when she was there? They are not a couple. The group didn’t agree to take shifts protecting Lydia or something (unless I am forgetting something). Her parents and bff were not doing what Stiles was doing. I feel like it was not his place to do something like that. It is not like he is especially close to Lydia yet. Lydia’s father should have been more concerned about this random dude stalking his daughter tbh.

      • I didn’t like the scene between him and her at her car. “You don’t have to worry about crying. Because I think you’re pretty when you cry.” How often has he scene her cry tho? I wasn’t quite rolling my eyes, but I wasn’t feeling the “he appreciates her” angle.

I’m just wondering when he’s going to stop beating around the bush and make an overt move.

    • Also, do they have to make him such a clown? Having him run back and forth between Allison and Scott was OTT. The whole point was to hide the fact that Allison and Scott were still communicating, right?

      • The part where he leaned against the lockers and was hacking up a lung was OTT. I also felt him speaking full sentences in his sleep at the hospital in the premier was a little much too.

I didn’t know he used an inhaler. I thought that was only Scott (before he was a werewolf).

  2. YAY! Teen Wolf. Poor Derek. He tries so hard but he’s alone … he can’t find anyone appropriate to hang out with. lol He was hot for like two seconds when he pulled the blonde girl (whose name I forgot) by her ankles. Also when Kate had him. 😉 Any other time he’s just kinda awkward.

I want Bianca/Tyler!H scenes! I WANT THEM NOW! And I want them to be sexy!

Danny should hold classes on how to stay out of it and Tara and Bonnie should take notes. 😉

Stiles should be a black girl … *Kanye shrug*

Why it Boyd lonely? He is too fine.

All the women are flawless! Can’t wait to met Bianca’s character.

    • Erica. He’s hot all the time to me. Appropriate? Not so much. He has a nice face though.

Me too! Maybe him flirting with the Black female cop was a preview.

      Lol.

Lol. You’re never letting that go, are you?

I don’t know. It needs more exploring.

      They are!

      • Erica! I was about to call her Rose. 😡 When Derek’s lurking around teenage boys it’s embarrassing/awkward for me.

Derek likes older women. =D we can hope! (but I’m afraid to!)

I will never let go! EVER! Head!canon is a wonderful place, Alta. Tiki/Matt 😉

  3. Derek is so on and off for me at times. I think the whole him going for teenagers is creepy (I know I am not alone in this), but ultimately the show is called Teen Wolf…so eh…
Scott is so adorable. I think that now that he is more used to being a werewolf I can be okay with him. He seems to accept it for the time being, which takes a little pressure off of him.
Allison is too perfect for me…I don’t know why I am not a big fan of her. But nevertheless she gets things done, so I can’t be mad at her.
I think I got caught up in fanfic Stiles, because on the show he is an ass. Well an ass to people not his friends. He just seems too much at times. But Dylan O’Brien has great timing to make moments on the show.
Lydia is great. I like that the show is not just backing off on her problems. It is plaguing her and we get to see her reactions to everything.
Jackson needs to go have a many of comfortable seats, cause his behind is tripping. Why is he angsting and blaming Lydia who has no idea what is even going on?
I prefer Danny to stay a character outside of the problems. It is rare when a characters gets included into something, and they maintain that appeal they had. Danny’s appeal is that he is “unaware” of what is going on (but with how loud these people talk…)
The new wolfs are okay. I really have no opinion on Isaac. Erica is okay. Boyd was too fine to be sitting by himself. Maybe they will tell us why he apparently had no friends looking like the twenty he is.
Yes for Bianca Lawson finally playing an adult! Yes she looks young, but I can’t imagine her wanting to play a 16-19 year old for the rest of her career (even though she probably could).

    • Yeah, now that he’s used to the changes and knows how his body works, he’s calmed down.

I was afraid of Allison being portrayed as perfect in comparison to “shallow” Lydia. The moment that sold her for me was her reaction to finding out that Lydia kissed Stiles. She just exploited Lydia’s apology to buy her clothes and moved on.

I have yet to read fic for this show. But yeah, Stiles has been a little much at times this season. Dylan does have great timing though.

I can’t wait for Lydia to figure out what’s happening to her.

I was actually thinking that too, watching the recent episode. I was wondering if he was going to be in it, and then I wondered how I would feel if he was in every ep. The writers would probably overdo it.

For real. He’s cute and his skin is flawless.

      Bianca Lawson is gorgeous!

  4. Okay, thoughts on the episode:

THE DINNER SCENE! Best of the episode. I was dying. It just kept getting better and better. Gerard sure had me fooled because I was buying everything he was saying about Scott and Scott/Allison. But these Argents don’t miss a beat, do they?

I almost teared up when he threatened Scott’s mama. Some things are sacred, Mr. Argent.

Boyd still needs more screen time, but when he took his jacket off in the stands? I want to touch his body.

Derek’s training: Why did Isaac keep doing the same thing? Way to not use your common sense. Why wasn’t Boyd participating and why wasn’t Derek getting on him for it? Is he the mature member of the pack? I also want Boyd to react to Scott taking that play from him. Lastly, Boyd basking in the crowd’s adoration reminded me of season 1-era Jackson. Speaking of which:

Jackson’s story crawled one inch forward. Okay.

Lydia! She went to see the counselor. I think Lydia’s questions was a smart way to give Bianca’s character a little background. Their exchange makes me feel like Lydia can read minds. But it seems she’s the Kenema. I’m a little sad because I didn’t want her turning into a scaly lizard. She’s too stylish for that. Poor girl will probably have a heart attack when she finds out.

Speaking of the Kenema, I’m happy the main plot has moved forward.

I loved Scott in this episode. I’m finding that I get excited each time he comes upon a scene, all superhero/main protagonist-like. His speech to Derek about how there’s no trust was perfect.

The coach continues to be a mess.

    I think that’s it.

What did everyone think of the episode?

    • Boyd! Yes more of him. I like the way Boyd watching things happen. He did it last episode when he was just watching Erica, Issac and Scott fight.

But it is weird that Issac became a were for his abusive father, Erica became one for her sickness and Boyd is one because he takes a bus to school (sits alone at lunch)?

I liked Scott’s speech, but Tyler’s delivery was the same. I’m getting used to it. 🙂

    • THE DINNER SCENE!

Argent.

I loved both scenes. I like that, in the first scene, Scott wasn’t completely intimidated by Mr. Argent. The scene ended in a stalemate because Scott is growing some balls. That scene affected how I interpreted the later scene with Gerard Argent. I mean, he *thinks* Scott is easy to push around but he may soon find out that Scott is a bigger challenge than he bargained for. I wasn’t too worried.

Derek’s training: Why did Isaac keep doing the same thing? Way to not use your common sense.

It seemed liked the same few seconds were played three times. I thought that whole thing was due to the show’s low budget. lol.

Why wasn’t Boyd participating and why wasn’t Derek getting on him for it? Is he the mature member of the pack? I also want Boyd to react to Scott taking that play from him. Lastly, Boyd basking in the crowd’s adoration reminded me of season 1-era Jackson.

ikr! We weren’t shown the moment Derek recruited Boyd so maybe it has something to do with what Boyd wanted out of this arrangement. Basically, he is still a loner but just around other people. That is the way things were for him before. He sat in a crowded cafeteria by himself. Even him basking in the crowd’s adoration is sort of like that. I mean, it was adoration from afar. Jackson actually has friends.

Jackson’s story crawled one inch forward. Okay.

I think this story has been moving at a good pace. Idk what you mean? First, we had the advert for Jackson’s porn film – the scene when he staggered dripping wet for a good while. Then we had the web cam style porn. And now, we had a viewing of the porn. Too bad the money shot was edited out by some evil person. That is a lot of story.

Poor girl will probably have a heart attack when she finds out.

lol. She would have a heart attack. But I don’t think she is the Kenema. My theory is that the Kenema has something to do with Derek’s past. Both Jackson and Lydia were red herrings. I think that Jackson, Lydia and the Kenema are all dealing with identity issues but that is about it. The Kenema has so far killed or tried to kill three guys in their early twenties and one older man. How much do you want to bet that Derek and the two dead young guys went to the same school and had a school activity in common. I am thinking that they were all Lacrosse players. Maybe the older guy was their coach. Just a hunch. I suspect camera guy. Maybe he is actually an older guy who is passing as a high school student. Of course, my theory is based on nothing. But, LYDIA CANNOT BE THIS THING. ok?

      • The scene ended in a stalemate because Scott is growing some balls.

        Grabbing the cakes! Lmao!

And also, Scott had just won a victory wrt Mr. Argent, only to be smacked down by Gerard. Chris held a gun to Scott’s head, but I don’t think he ever caused him bodily harm, nor did he threaten Scott’s mom. And don’t forget that Scott watched Gerard slice that Omega in half, so he knows the man is good on his threats.

That’s true too, lol. But Derek calling him predictable works with Isaac doing the same thing.

That’s true. Was anyone surrounded him during his adoration? Wasn’t he standing by himself? I don’t remember the other players crowding him.

Too bad the money shot was edited out by some evil person.

Lmao. I just meant that he’s no closer to learning how he got the super strength or what he is (or what he’s supposed to do with it) which means I’m no closer to being free of his attitude.

I forgot about the camera guy. Him and his creepy taking pictures of Allison in the stands. Someone pointed out a clue to the Kenema being Lydia: the mirror in Lydia’s bedroom was smashed and the Kenema cannot stand to look at its reflection. :(.

        • And also, Scott had just won a victory wrt Mr. Argent, only to be smacked down by Gerard. And don’t forget that Scott watched Gerard slice that Omega in half, so he knows the man is good on his threats.

True and Gerard stabbed him right where Derek hurt him. So Gerard attacked Scott where he was most vulnerable both physically and emotionally. How did he even know that Scott was hurt? I guess, I am just excited to see how Scott and his crew handle this latest threat. I wasn’t thinking of the possibility that someone would get killed or something. Do you think that a character will get killed off?

Lmao. I just meant that he’s no closer to learning how he got the super strength or what he is (or what he’s supposed to do with it) which means I’m no closer to being free of his attitude.

          I was being sarcastic 😛

Someone pointed out a clue to the Kenema being Lydia: the mirror in Lydia’s bedroom was smashed and the Kenema cannot stand to look at its reflection. 😦 .

I thought the same thing about the lens of Jackson’s camera being cracked and some of the footage being edited out. But he was at the game when the Kenema attacked Derek at the pool, right? Anyway, I had that hunch because the show has the tendency to use the same images(symbols? I am ignorant, ok?) for diff characters to expand upon a particular theme. I am probably wrong. I suck at predicting stuff.

          • I’m excited to see how they handle it too. Allison especially is going to have a problem because there was already Kate, but she can’t exactly go, “Oh another member of my family is cray cray? Yeah, I’m cool with you killing them.”

Oh, lmao. It was so detailed that I thought you were serious.

It flew over my head that the lens of his camera was cracked. I didn’t know that. And yeah, he was at the game. Lydia was the one supposedly waiting for Stiles to come back.

            Lol.

            • Camera guy told Jackson that the lens of his camera was cracked when Jackson returned it to him. This was in the previous ep though.

              • Oh yeah, I remember the comment now. So he’s the same guy who took Allison’s picture? Some of these dudes look alike. In the premier, I thought the guy who was taking pictures at the cemetery, etc was the same character as Isaac.

  5. A few words on the new characters. They were introduced with distinct stories, and now they’ve coalesced into one personality trait: Cocky. Derek is the person with the most personality in that pack. Why are Isaac, Erica, and Boyd the same? Why do they have the same personality. I feel like Boyd joined their rank with that stunt he pulled during the lacrosse game. How come there hasn’t been any mention of their former lives? Because right now (with perhaps the exception of Boyd although time will tell) it does feel like they’ve had two separate lives. I see nothing in this new Erica that reminds me of the Erica we were introduced to (for about two or three scenes). Same with Isaac who at least got a whole episode. Derek broke his arm during this episode. Why didn’t that trigger him to the years spent with his dad? Perhaps his dad never got that physical with him. Hard to believe, but it’s possible. Still, that was one male/male-authority chastising him for something he said by overpowering him. And he wasn’t triggered?

Right now it feels like their ailments were just plot devices to make us understand why they would want to change. And now that they’ve changed, who they used to be doesn’t matter to them or the show.

It’s strange and I’m saying all of this because if the show continues this path with them, then I’ll have no reason to become interested in them beyond a passive “Well they’re not offensive” because they won’t be anything but Derek’s lackeys, who are cocky about their makeovers.

  6. I’ve been talking and reading on tumblr about Derek’s gross actions this season and especially the last two episodes. Someone said they’re finding him increasingly harder to defend. I’ve never been concerned about defending him, but I did realize something about him a couple of minutes ago.

Last season, Derek wanted to do to Scott the same thing he’s doing to Isaac and Erica (haven’t seen him do anything to Boyd yet). Scott was resisting and Derek was boorish in his interactions with him and he even used scare tactics (sometimes legitimate scare tactics) to try and coerce him to his side. But Derek also had a story that rendered him sympathetic away from what he was doing to Scott: the fact that a group of people (based on what Derek knew)/someone had burned his entire family to the ground just because they were werewolves. In one night, he lost everyone he loved and everyone that made him feel safe and comfortable. Plus someone killed his sister, and it was possible that it was that same group of people.

So Derek had that going for him, an avenue for people to root for him or even sympathize with him while at the same time having problems with the way he comes off to people.

But he doesn’t have that this season. The story of his teenage tragedy has been solved, so there’s no cushion or counter to the gross/problematic/stupid things he does or will do.

    • Agreed about Derek. I find it frustrating that everything he’s done keeps getting the excuse ‘BUT HIS FAMILY~~’. Yeah, no?

Derek’s family died when he was 16. More than enough time to learn social etiquette. He lacks a lot.

Now he’s just being absurdly arrogant.

And don’t even get me started on his tactics when it comes to new werewolves. Including Scott.

      • Yeah, I’ve seen some people say he’s traumatized or scarred and while that my be true, I don’t think that’s what’s fueling his behavior. The way he treats these kids who had nothing to do with what happened doesn’t have anything to do with his tragedy. It’s not like he tries to create relationships but fails at it. He’s not interested in these kids being anything but his soldiers/power source.

  7. This show keeps up a consistent level of goodness that is lacking in so many shows. I’ve been enjoying every episode so far. There is something about the writing where they can treat moments with such seriousness and then bam hit you with a joke out of nowhere and make you laugh at the most random of moments. Loving it! I haven’t found anything to hate about it yet.

  8. This ep made me love vet guy (name?). I loved that he dressed Scott’s minor wound with the same urgency he used to tell Scott that the people, whose job it is to murder him and his kind, are on their way. “You don’t want it to get infected, do you?” lol

      • I think we will get more of him now. The ep started with him dressing Scott’s wound and giving helpful info to Scott. The ep ended with Gerard re-opening Scott’s wound and threatening Scott. Deaton is pretending to be a simple town vet and Gerard is pretending to be a kindly grandpa/principal but we know that they are both more than that. Plus, we learned recently that they know each other so…
