This one episode had what the entire season has been lacking: excitement due to a sense of urgency, as well as a clear-cut goal. Michael Narducci gives payoff to a couple of things he set up in season 2 episode 18: Damon, Stefan, Elena and even Bonnie (as well as all of season 2 wrt Bonnie doing most of the work to save Elena and everyone). Also, Elena is frustratingly dumb.as.hell.in this episode, Bonnie is super passive and I hope there’s a point, Elijah is better than Klaus could ever dream of being, and a menacing Tree gets ready to usurp the Moonstone as Object With the Most Development on this Show (the coffins tried and failed).
Quotes of the podcast: “I feel like we’re standing on the edge of a cliff and there are two options: either the great big hand of the producers is going to push us off the cliff and we will start on this wild ride where Bonnie reacts to what they did, and the dynamic between the characters is changed, Bonnie and Elena, more importantly, I feel, between Bonnie, Damon, and Stefan. [….] Or the great big hand of the producers is going to turn our asses around and walk us back the same path we just came from, where Bonnie is being used by the Salvatores, and blah blah blah.”
“Bonnie gave and gave and gave, and the Salvatores in this episode asked for more, and she said basically that she couldn’t, and they went, ‘Oh yeah you’re not gonna give it to us? We’ll take it.’ That’s what happened. And the possibility that they’re not gonna do anything with that just disappoints me so much.”
