This episode wasn’t boring. There was just a humongous elephant in it, imo. And that would be Bonnie’s absence.

Enjoy the episode! I’ll change the title and put a(nother) poll after I’ve watched it on Sunday.

But for some reason it started to annoy me the closer it got to the end. Starting with the Matt/Elena scene in the kitchen, which I’ll post in the comments. That said, I feel like she (only counting this scene) and Damon are the only ones who were good in this episode.

Why wasn’t Alaric’s story the A plot? It should have been the A plot.

Stefan feeling guilty for turning Damon was better than Damon feeling guilty for not stopping Stefan. This sudden guilt or burden is just not working for me. They’re doing too much with these brothers. It’s too much.

When did Matt become the only normal person in Mystic Falls?

    • Doesn’t seem like you missed much. Bonnie is still upset, offscreen, but don’t worry, she doesn’t blame Elena!

Alaric seems to be serial killin’ after all, due to wacky blackouts due to ring, as revealed by Ye New Olde Gilbert Journal (somehow initially in Meredith’s possession) wherein same thing happened to previous Gilberts who wore the ring and went crazy.

So they’d better get Jeremy’s ring off of him pronto, eh? I wonder how long before anyone bothers to contact him.

Salvatores flashbacked to 1912 when serial killing of Founders/council members also took place. And they remember Sage, female boxer and feminist role model who basically condones rape & encouraged Damon to enjoy bloodsucking more because women all secretly want it, see? Especially the ones who seem reserved instead of wearing too much makeup like those harlots do (like I said, very feminist!) – so it’s really not Damon’s fault at all! Yay! Then Damon encouraged Stefan to feed on human blood again (only women though, not yucky men!) which led to Stef losing his head, and his victim losing hers in a more literal sense. So RipperStefan is all Damon’s fault! And now Damon will teach Stefan moderation. So sweet. And I think we can all learn a lot from Damon’s example, really. 😛

Matt is still Elena’s love interest, as I feared. She tells him that the main attraction with Stefan was his immortality because she met him soon after her parents died-died so she wanted a boyfriend who wouldn’t leave her. Hahaha! I loved that part. But she’s attracted to Damon for some other reason….ooohh. The shippers must be going wild.

I’m sure in the next ep this revelation will be forgotten and Elena will say she loves Stefan for his sparkling personality and the messy way he drinks blood and slobbers it all over. So cute!

      • omg … this is the best review ever … I think I should just read yours instead of actually watching the show. =D

I love that this show condones rape and the general abuse of women. /sarcasm I fucking hate it actually.

        • Aww, thanks Razycrandomgirl 🙂 I’ll suffer so you don’t have to… ’cause torture = love. 😉

I also hated the show for condoning abuse of women, but I feel better now that I know it all started with Sage. 😛 If a woman advocates rape, it must be okay! (and Sage must be Julie Plec’s avatar)

          • I also hated the show for condoning abuse of women, but I feel better now that I know it all started with Sage. If a woman advocates rape, it must be okay!

I hate it because this is a thing this show already does. Even before they introduced Sage to give Damon the go ahead (which is ridiculous. I liked it better when he just did it himself), the show was already killin’ and abusing with no character to provide a counter-voice. Bonnie never followed up on her process, Liz became a ship, Matt is normal, Tyler’s just there, Caroline doesn’t ruffle feathers, so it’s just one continuous voice speaking this problematic thing. And it keeps happening. With no push back. That’s the thing that gets me.

And who thought it was a good idea to hand over the Salvatores’ interesting/problematic actions to someone else? Really? It’s not Stefan, it’s the blood. It’s not Stefan, it’s Klaus. It’s not Stefan, it’s Damon (and if Damon felt so bad, then why did he keep tempting him? Even as recently as episode 15). It’s not Damon, it’s Sage.

The thing is of course it’s not Sage’s fault that Damon became part-time abuser. Sage just had a worldview and Damon followed it (and is Sage a lesbian? Of course not. She just used women as an example because killing dudes isn’t as sexy) without question. But even the writer-ups for this episode were saying Sage is the one who made Damon into the person we know. The worst part is the section of Fandom that will go with it.

      • So they’d better get Jeremy’s ring off of him pronto, eh? I wonder how long before anyone bothers to contact him.

I have a question about that. Do you guys think that the ring still works on Jeremy? Isn’t he technically supernatural too now? He can still see ghosts if he wants to (and they want to), right?

        • We don’t know if he can still see ghosts. I really hope he can’t still see ghosts. I feel like they’d mention something in 3.10 if he could, but I need to remember what show I’m watching.

      • And they remember Sage, female boxer and feminist role model who basically condones rape & encouraged Damon to enjoy bloodsucking more because women all secretly want it, see? Especially the ones who seem reserved instead of wearing too much makeup like those harlots do (like I said, very feminist!)

Yeah, her speech was really, really gross. It was just … wow. Are the writers really that oblivious to what they are writing or do they simply not care? The misogyny level was extra high in this episode.

      • Bonnie is still upset, offscreen, but don’t worry, she doesn’t blame Elena!

Never forget. She doesn’t blame Elena!

So they’d better get Jeremy’s ring off of him pronto, eh? I wonder how long before anyone bothers to contact him.

Lol @ Elena not even saying she needs to call Jeremy. Maybe it’ll happen next episode. I hope the writers remember he died in last year’s finale. Though of course he hasn’t made as much use of the ring as Alaric.

Then Damon encouraged Stefan to feed on human blood again (only women though, not yucky men!) which led to Stef losing his head, and his victim losing hers in a more literal sense. So RipperStefan is all Damon’s fault!

I don’t like this development. It’s lazy. Damon thinks it’s his fault for some reason, and that’s just not necessary. That shouldn’t even be a thing. So when exactly did Damon set to making Stefan’s life hell? Is that still a continuity?

    • Yeah, you didn’t miss anything. The ep was just filler. It went on and on and then it abruptly ended. Idk. It reminded me of how JP said during PaleyFest that they approach each episode like a movie. That’s how this ep felt to me, so disconnected from 3.15 and the rest of the season.

Oh, and of course Elena is not mad at the Salvatores. But that was to be expected.

      • Ok, I have to say, though, that it definitely worked in the episode’s favour to only focus on half of the main cast. It did give the characters more room to breathe and made the ep feel more cohesive.

I actually like reveal that it’s the Gilbert rings driving their wearers mad. It’s a good thing to get rid of these rings that only serve to protect the male characters on the show. And Idk, it makes sense to me that these rings of cheating death would have negative consequences for their owners. But, as songspin wrote, this whole thing of Meredith having a Gilbert journal was very suspect. I don’t think I understood Meredith in this ep tbh.

Ah, and I liked when Damon told Sage that he was spoken for.

In hindsight, I do think it’s one of the better S3 episodes. I still think that it felt somehow disconnected from the rest of the season, though. Idk, it had a very different vibe.

        • I agree, let’s get rid of those rings! And I did want there to be some consequences to cheating death… I was disappointed when it looked like Meredith was the killer in previous ep, so I don’t have a problem with it being Alaric, nope. 🙂

Meredith’s actions (or maybe I should just blame the writers :P) were so convoluted though. Why didn’t she just tell Alaric her concerns & show him the Gilbert journal, as soon as she found out about his death-cheating ring? Why date him, then shoot him when he finds the murder weapon and suspects *her* (why was she carrying that around with her anyway? Did I miss an explanation?), then have him arrested, then fake that document to get him sprung from the slammer… and *then* tell him what she knows?! Sheesh. All in service of making Meredith look suspicious before the “surprise twist”, I guess.

          • Neither have I. Especially not if this gives us Alaric on a psychotic break in next week’s ep, lol.

Yes, Meredith’s actions and motivation were very convoluted. So essentially, she had Alaric arrested to get him off the list of suspects? That’s a weird logic. I don’t think Liz would have ever suspected Alaric. You’re right, it was all about making Meredith look suspicious. I’m wondering though, was she lying about the restraining orders in her first conversation with Elena?

            • That confused me too… why would Isobel need a restraining order against him? She didn’t leave her husband ’cause he was abusive… at least, that’s not the story we were told before. But each episode is a new movie!

Why would Meredith date Alaric, all things considered? But then, Meredith seems psycho. Maybe it’s the actress’ intense, somewhat unnecessarily belligerent attitude. She’s the same on Pretty Little Liars (where her character is probably actually a psycho)

            • I’m wondering though, was she lying about the restraining orders in her first conversation with Elena?

I haven’t watched the ep yet but I really hope so. Damon and Sheriff Forbes did a background check on him in season one and found nothing. Plus, he hasn’t been shown to be the kind of guy you would need a restraining order against in the 2+ seasons he has been on the show. Sure, he doesn’t stop Damon and Stefan (like everyone else) but he hasn’t been abusive towards anyone himself. This seems OOC to me

            • You’re right, songspin and Susan, that this contradicts what we know about Alaric. But it would throw some light on why Isobel was so obsessed with becoming a vampire and leaving her old life behind.

          • No. I think the year was brought up as a shout-out to Downton Abbey. JP said that she had the episode set in 1912 because she had recently watched Downton Abbey and was so fascinated by that show/that time period or something like that. That is all.

        • Yeah, I liked that Samantha was killing people and she went nuts. I wish Jeremy had been in the ep because he’s always been THE Gilbert candidate, especially in Fandom, for going nuts. Yet the joke was made about Elena in the episode, and it left me feeling cold. It makes me wonder what Samantha was dealing with that she died so often. Jonathan Gilbert too, I guess. Unless the ring naturally drives you crazy? Just a side-effect of trying to cheat nature? I’d like that. Because there didn’t seem to be any vamps around in 1912, and Sage looked younger than Alaric.

I liked that line from Damon too.

I don’t understand why Meredith shot Alaric. Unless I missed something, then it makes no sense. She told him he shouldn’t be looking at the pictures (or something) and then shot him. I pray that wasn’t done purely for shock value.

  1. ”Matt is still Elena’s love interest”
Seriously you can soo tell that he is still in love with her, this whole everyone has feelings for Elena is annoying.

”Oh, and of course Elena is not mad at the Salvatores. But that was to be expected.”

Urgh this annoyed me, I would have liked to seen more anger and annoyance from her,
also I would have liked a scene longer than a sec talking about Bonnie and their friendship, yet we get this whole scene with her and Matt talking about her feelings for the brothers I mean what???
Did something actually hapen to Bonnie and Abby last episode? because seriously watching this ep you wouldnt know it.

Another thing thing I found disturbing is her walking on Stefan and Damon with the girl and then she erm… leaves to go home lol I cannot what is this show? instead of being worried about the girl or at least making sure that she is ok she goes home to sit down and talk about her feelings for them. Woah

    • “this whole everyone has feelings for Elena is annoying.”

Don’t forget Alaric! 😉 They exhibited inappropriate chemistry again in this ep. The way the camera lingered on his hands on her back when they hugged, for instance. Hey, she should be with a human, so it’s either ol’ reliable first love Matt, or Alaric, her (former?) teacher, who slept with her birth-mom and her aunt. And he’s a serial killer too.

I think the choice is clear. We’re obviously heading towards another love triangle Damon and Alaric fight over Elena! 😉 Stefan even referred to Alaric as Damon’s best friend in this ep… awww. Stefan passes the torch as the love-triangle-with-brothers morphs into love-triangle-with-best-buds.

“instead of being worried about the girl or at least making sure that she is ok she goes home to sit down and talk about her feelings for them.”

Yes, Elena’s so disgusted by Stefan, and the unsightly blood on his chin, that she feels it’s time to go home and reminisce about why she fell for him – She was vulnerable after losing her parents and would’ve fallen for pretty much the first guy-who-cant-die that she met 😉 Of course the whole thing’s ridiculous because even vampires can die-die, and didn’t Stefan tell Elena he’d have to move on after a few years so townspeople wouldn’t notice his lack of aging? So she was gonna lose him anyway. Unless she became a vampire too, which she seemed strongly against. Which doesn’t make sense either – if she’s so traumatized by death, and attracted to immortal guys, why not wanna be immortal herself?

Nevermind, the moral of the story is… Alaric is looking *reeeeally* good to Elena right now, what with the immortality ring, and the serial killing. He’s almost as good as a vampire! 😉 Definitely boyfriend material.

      • Just wanted to say that all your comments are awesome and so hilarious.

I think the choice is clear. We’re obviously heading towards another love triangle Damon and Alaric fight over Elena! 😉

Lmao “Alaric!Actor” would love that … but how can this work if SPOILER “Alaric!Actor” won´t be in the regular cast (only recurring) anymore next season because he got a lead role in a new series.

The way the camera lingered on his hands on her back when they hugged, for instance.

I thought that had something to do with the show/camera man giving us a hint that all this mess has something to do with his ring, because I thought that was the focus when they lingered on his hands.
Like that scene in episode 13 where Sheriff Forbes comes to Elena and Alaric and tells them that they found one set of fingerprints on the murder weapon … camera focuses on Elena´s face … “Yours, Elena.”
But I also got the creepy vibes from “Alaric!Actor” … but that´s nothing new since I checked out his twitter one time and saw some of his interviews. He really must have enjoyed that hug.

        • Kathrin, you’re too kind. 🙂 Haha, I had no idea AlaricActor had a thing for ElenaActress in real life! I don’t really follow twitter. But I heard that ElijahActor wanted to be Elena’s love interest too, so this is great. They both must know it would increase their screentime. 😉 I’m picturing all the guys on the show tweeting Julie Plec, puffing up their virtual chests and pitching why *they* should be Elena’s next Twue Wuv. I wouldn’t be surprised if AlaricActor gives Elena inappropriately flirty looks on purpose, hoping the fandom will respond and say “Yes! He’s so dreamy! Alena (Elaric?) 4eva!”, thus pressuring Plec to make it canon.

A behind-the-scenes look at this show would probably be more entertaining than the show, huh?

“I thought that had something to do with the show/camera man giving us a hint that all this mess has something to do with his ring”

Good point! I didn’t think to credit the cameraman for anything but being a perv. 😉 TVD has been a bad influence. You’re probably right and it was foreshadowing the ring. But Alaric still gives Elena “I’ve totally forgotten that she could’ve been my step-daughter and/or niece, besides she’s 18 now, hubba-hubba!” looks. 😉

          • I’m picturing all the guys on the show tweeting Julie Plec, puffing up their virtual chests and pitching why *they* should be Elena’s next Twue Wuv.

Not poor Joseph Morgan. He wanted to play opposite Kat. So they gave him Candice Accola. He should’ve done like Steven McQueen. He wanted to play opposite Candice, and they gave him Kat. Michael Trevino fell into the same trap: said he wanted to play opposite Kat and got Candice instead.

        • but how can this work if SPOILER “Alaric!Actor” won´t be in the regular cast (only recurring) anymore next season because he got a lead role in a new series.

So it’s true?! I haven’t caught up on spoilers yet, only read Nikki’s comment in the 3.15 podcast. I’m so happy!!!!!

    • Well it was only Bonnie’s (stranger danger) mother. It’s not like Damon killed Jeremy in front of Elena or anything … She would have surely hated him for that.

      >_>

    • Seriously you can soo tell that he is still in love with her, this whole everyone has feelings for Elena is annoying.

I was wondering where Caroline fitted in in during that conversation.

Another thing thing I found disturbing is her walking on Stefan and Damon with the girl and then she erm… leaves to go home lol I cannot what is this show? instead of being worried about the girl or at least making sure that she is ok she goes home to sit down and talk about her feelings for them. Woah

I didn’t even realize that she just walked away. I was too busy wondering why she was shocked. Does she even know Stefan went off human blood and is now relapsing? And if she does (and I don’t think does), why would she be shocked after everything she knows about him and everything she saw and experience with him (and I’m talking this year alone). Like, what?

  2. I finished watching the episode … and I really don´t know what to think about it.

I expected Alaric to be the serial killer from the start, but I didn´t expect that it would be because of the ring until I saw some spoiler. I thought they would bring back Klaus possession.
Why he didn´t go to Bonnie after his ring didn´t work properly the first time remains ridic, so we could have save to useless council members if her went to her after what happened in episode 10. Lol.
I really don´t hope they will make Bonnie being in the periphery of this sl but forgetting all about her own … like they did this episode.
But I´m excited about seeing psycho!Alaric next week and I love that they finally consider the consequences of cheating the death too often.

What is a Meredith and what was the purpose of Rebekah this episode? She really was damn obvious about this whole tree thing. The writers really don´t like her character but they like her face and want to show it as often as possible.

Don´t know why but Damon reminded me of his season 1 self … but his one-liners weren´t funny at all. Why is everyone laughing about that Chipmunk-one? I didn´t get when I saw the gifs and I don´t get it now. Sorry if I´m lame and don´t get it.
Brother bonding happened as expected, but I don´t care for them at the moment and probably won´t again, because even there was a hiatus I still know what happened last episode.

Sage was underwhelming and the thing we thought would happen with her teaching him how to rape women happened. Of course Damon didn´t have to follow her instructions but it was really disturbing and gross.
And she had an obsession with one Original – this time it is Finn. I expected that, too.

Don´t know what Sheriff Forbes was even doing in this episode … her arresting Alaric without any really evidences was a little bit ridic.

The Flashbacks were meh, but I really liked that one when Stefan read in his diary and they changed the scenary – that looked really beautiful.

The Matt/Elena scenes were ok and I think the writers are developing something there … but did you see that one scene in the closet were Elena puts a finger on Matt´s lip? That reminded me of Bonnie/Jeremy … but Nina and Zach didn´t deliver it as half as good as Kat and Steven. Looked weird.
Btw it is two days after the ball in MF timeline, right? I thought Matt´s hand was broken … but I didn´t see anything about that.
I don´t know what to think about that scene in the kitchen between them … I thought this came out of nowhere. I don´t know how to explain it but it felt so disconnected and like Matt and Elena sit together and talk about this NOW … so pressured. I don´t know how to explain it. But I thing I liked the song that was playing in the background.
It´s nice to hear her finally speak about this after three seasons and with Matt out of this group but I didn´t get her logic in the end like songspin said – she never wanted to be a vampire abd she knew that Stefan had to leave her because other people would get suspicious.
But in the end I felt more for Matt (yeh I´m pathetic like that) and his invisible line.
Loved that he talked to Bonnie but I wanted them to speak more about her and her situation.
Didn´t like that scene between Elena and Damon at the beginning and her comment after his lasagna-one-liner “now you are mean” – that sounded like Damon was repsonsible for Bonnie failing a test in school but not for killing her mother. I know Damon would react like that, that not new but I epxected more from Elena.

Paul Wesley did a really good job with this whole sociopath Stefan scenes and now we also know what happened in episode 1 after he killed these two women. “I´m sorry, I´m sorry” it´s really disturbing … but it was played well.

I´m also confused about Damon´s rehab methods … but let him and his hilarious plans be. That big brother moment at the end felt a little bit flat to me not only because I´m mostly indifferent to them these days but also because the writers had to include the “Right now” – I think Stefan was the only one Damon ever had … and does this mean if Elena says in the final “Damon I choose you” – Arrivederci Stefano!
I´m a little bit confused about that.

But like Emily said I think this episode seemed really disconnected to the other episodes in season 3 and had a different vibe, perhaps because of the new writer or I don´t know.

It´s hilarious that I thought Elena and Matt would find a diary of one Gilbert in the closet and in the end it really happened … TVD is getting really predictable these days.

So this means one Salvatore killed a Lockwood and the other one killed a Gilbert (but of course she came back) in 1912 … because I couldn´t remember their faces after these short scenes at the funeral, but I thought it was them.

Sorry for the rambling … but I´m really confused about this episode.

    • But like Emily said I think this episode seemed really disconnected to the other episodes in season 3 and had a different vibe, perhaps because of the new writer or I don´t know.

Maybe it is because this ep, unlike the other S3 episodes, didn’t focus on the Originals. And, like Semi wrote, the writers didn’t try to shock us every 5 minutes. Which is kind of sad because this means that we’re so used to the Originals and the shocking twists by now that we miss them when they are not there and think that an ep feels weird without them.

      Sage was underwhelming

Yes, I was a bit underwhelmed by her too. I think the problem was that basically all of her scenes were in the promos. But I really like Cassidy Freeman.

      • Maybe it is because this ep, unlike the other S3 episodes, didn’t focus on the Originals. And, like Semi wrote, the writers didn’t try to shock us every 5 minutes. Which is kind of sad because this means that we’re so used to the Originals and the shocking twists by now that we miss them when they are not there and think that an ep feels weird without them.

        That could be the reason.
I really didn´t miss anything about the Originals in this episode and I thought that subplot with Rebekah was unecessary and really had no place in this episode but they probably had to include it for the next episodes.

I think the problem was that basically all of her scenes were in the promos. But I really like Cassidy Freeman.

I agree and I don´t know why but the promo and the music in the promo made her liness and scenes more exciting than they were in the episode. I also got the same feeling with one of Damon´s one-liners, which sounded pretty cool in the promo but felt flat in the episode-
I love her too and I hope we will see more of her and better scenes next episode.

    • “I´m mostly indifferent to them these days but also because the writers had to include the “Right now” – I think Stefan was the only one Damon ever had … and does this mean if Elena says in the final “Damon I choose you” – Arrivederci Stefano!”

I think that’s exactly what it means! 😛 Of course Damon can’t just say, “’cause you’re my brother and I wuv you.” He has to reference Elena somehow. “‘Cause you’re all I have…right now.” Pfft. Their “brotherly bond” is pretty blah and meaningless to me. Once we might’ve cared about them repairing their relationship, but it’s not a priority of the writers, and never gonna happen with Elena around anyway.

Unless both Salvatores selflessly bow out and let human Matt have her in the end. (Yes, I’ve made Elena a passive object in this sentence, but I’m only keeping her true to character.)

    • Why he didn´t go to Bonnie after his ring didn´t work properly the first time remains ridic, so we could have save to useless council members if her went to her after what happened in episode 10. Lol.

      Smh.

I too feel like Rebekah didn’t need to be in this episode. They just wanted continuity wrt the tree. Look at them caring about continuity *____*.

Brother bonding happened as expected, but I don´t care for them at the moment and probably won´t again, because even there was a hiatus I still know what happened last episode.

I feel like they took a step back for the majority of this episode. Stefan was suspicious as hell, and I don’t know why. Especially since when we left 3.15, things were peaceful and calm and Damon had just taken a hit for him. Also, lol @ them angsting about Elena hating them, yet Elena’s just a little cold towards. Seriously. Watch her face and listen to her voice: she could be upset about anything. Anything! There’s nothing extra there. She was more pissed when she thought Damon had helped Bonnie die. Geez.

That reminded me of Bonnie/Jeremy … but Nina and Zach didn´t deliver it as half as good as Kat and Steven. Looked weird.

I said the same thing! Bonnie doing it was hotter, and Jeremy’s response was hotter than Matt’s. Jeremy looked like he would’ve taken his clothes off right then and there had Bonnie told him to. Matt/Elena didn’t work, so much so that I found myself wondering why you’d actually put your hand on the person’s lips in order to shush them. I wouldn’t have thought that had they produced chemistry.

Speaking of chemistry, I thought Damon being obviously turned on by Sage’s toughness and then her winking at him was hot. I wanted to ship it right there. And then other things happened, and I didn’t *____*.

Btw it is two days after the ball in MF timeline, right? I thought Matt´s hand was broken … but I didn´t see anything about that.

Lmao. Yep, two days. Which makes Elena’s barely there reaction in regards to Bonnie/Abby even more unnerving.

It´s nice to hear her finally speak about this after three seasons and with Matt out of this group but I didn´t get her logic in the end like songspin said – she never wanted to be a vampire abd she knew that Stefan had to leave her because other people would get suspicious.

Maybe she thought she’d be able to fonction on her own by the time that happened. She was 17 at the time. The thing is it explains nicely why Elena fell for Stefan despite him being a vampire. It doesn’t explain why she stayed falling after seeing what he’s capable of. Is the thought of him not dying and leaving her enough to make up for all the uncertainty he brought into her life (the biggest being Damon at one point)? Really? Still?

Part of me feels like her being unable to describe what Damon brings into her life is because the writers haven’t yet thought of a way (because they don’t plan) to twist it so that her loving Damon despite what he’s done is understandable.

  3. I actually….really enjoyed this episode tbqh.
    1. It was slower paced. It didn’t feel like the writers were trying to shock the audience every other scene. Because of that we got good character development (some of the best of the season actually)

    2. The flashbacks weren’t too heavy-handed…they added to the story.

    3. Minimal focus on the Originals and they used my favorite one, Rebekah, which was good.

    4. Matt! I may be in the minority but I happen to adore Matt so I was glad that he was there for more than 2 scenes before disappearing in the middle. The scenes where Elena admitted her initial attraction to Stefan was that he wouldn’t die was perfection. Yeah I ship Stelena and I always wanted the show to touch on this part of their narrative.

    5. I like that Stefan’s whole “I’m gonna be good again” thing is bumpy. I need it to be bumpy…way bumpier.

    6. I got reminded of Season 1 Damon which I liked. He’s unrepentant and selfish and a dick. In character…glad for it. And I also found it kind of fascinating that Sage is the one who taught him how to be the kind of vamp that he is.

    7. And I figured that Alaric was the killer and I liked the reveal even if it was obvious. There needs to be consequences for constantly cheating death. Plus I stopped seeing a use for Alaric after Jenna bit the dust so maybe now he can shoo off mah screen.

    8. Also I liked that the timing was right after what transpired last episode.

Would I have liked to see Bonnie and Abby and Caroline? Absolutely. But I really enjoyed this episode. And when the hell is Jeremy coming back?! I’ve missed him.

(that was longer than I intended)

  4. ”They exhibited inappropriate chemistry again in this ep. The way the camera lingered on his hands on her back when they hugged”

Lol I was a bit confused about this, but i think they were actually showing the ring, I guess they wanted to remind the audeince about the ring lol
But saying that the camera did really focus on the hug too long I didnt know what I was suppose to be loking at, but then I noticed the ring lol.

”Why he didn´t go to Bonnie after his ring didn´t work properly the first time remains ridic, so we could have save to useless council members if her went to her after what happened in episode 10. Lol.”

Because they wanted to drag the sl, it really doesnt make any sense, if the ring is acting up, why wasnt Elena’s first thought about Jeremy and his ring.
Im sure when they find out from the diary lol, they wil probably all go to Bonnie:rollseyes: honestly I would prefer if Alaric goes there himself without telling anyone, because I will find it really insensitive and disrespectful if the brothers or Elena go to ask her for help.

”Didn´t like that scene between Elena and Damon at the beginning and her comment after his lasagna-one-liner “now you are mean” – that sounded like Damon was repsonsible for Bonnie failing a test in school but not for killing her mother. I know Damon would react like that, that not new but I epxected more from Elena.”
I agree with you, Damon was a douche but that is not really a change, I did expect more from Elena considering it was what? the following day. I dont know why we expect more though considering this is the same routine all the time with her and Damon. At this point i dont think there really is anything that would get her truly angry with damon.

    ”Sage was underwhelming”
    I agree.

Also Rebecca was not really needed in this ep, I felt like she was just there to be obvious she was looking for something so by next ep the brothers will probably catch on and find out about the tree.

  5. Regarding that kitchen scene:

I mean were we really focusing on why Elena should continue to be with the Salvatores after they killed her best friend’s mom to save her life? Why are we focusing on this instead of Caroline’s words from last epi? You know, where she told Elena Bonnie always winds up getting hurt when it comes to keeping Elena safe? Is there a reason JP, writer extraordinaire, couldn’t let that be Elena’s angst for the episode since we must focus on her? And if Elena’s not going to focus on it, then they could’ve at least had Bonnie in the damn episode so the audience could focus on her at intervals in the damn episode. But no, that’s too much to ask for.

It’s not that this happens, it’s that it happens in place of what I want to see. It’s that they not only have Bonnie missing, but they use the time to go in the complete opposite direction. Like, there was no one onscreen to remind us of the gravity that she should be feeling right now. Because Caroline’s the only one and Elena can’t focus on two things at once, so since Caroline’s missing…no dice.

Also, will someone ever ask Elena the important question? The one that focuses on her character and her character only? The one that doesn’t just happen to work in the Salvatores’ favor? Will someone ever ask her why she’s with them, still interested in them, despite the things they’ve done to her? It’s not that they’re vampires or killers even, it’s that they’ve hurt her as well as the people she loves. Will anyone ever ask that? Or are the writers just going to ignore it because the answer would either a)make her look stupid or b)make the people she loves look stupid for continuing to associate with her.
It’s also funny how Elena was talking about Stefan making her feel safe and Damon sneaking up on her and she can’t shake him. She was talking with this nostalgic, resigned, but most of all affectionate tone and look on her face. And while she’s seating there feeling affection, those two just killed her friend’s mother in order to keep her alive. But will this show do anything with that? Of course not. That’s preposterous. Because Elena feels affection for the Sals, everyone must kowtow, now matter what the Sals do to them.

So again, after this episode, I’m left with more understanding of how Elena works within the triangle, and how she works by herself (ignoring how she doesn’t seem to hold her safety in high regard), but I’ve got nothin’ when it comes to her being a good friend. Nothing good, that is.

And if I have to be reassured that Bonnie doesn’t blame Elena one more time, I will scream. I was reassured in 3.15 by Caroline. I’ve been reassured in 3.16 by Matt. I’m not 5 years old, writers. I got it. And you know what? Elena could use some blame and resentment coming from “the people she loves.” At least it would be different, not to mention interesting if she had to fight against that particular sentiment. But no one blames her. Not even for half a second.

Like I said, this episode wasn’t boring, but there was just something about it. The tone was all wrong for me considering what happened in 3.15. Maybe what gets me is that I view what the Salvatores did as this big betrayal, yet I spent 42 minutes watching people who’s feathers were barely ruffled. Not even Elena, and Bonnie’s her best friend. I mean she had one scene. That’s it.

  6. Thinking about Matt and Elena, this episode would have been a great place for them to start to make up if the writers had done Matt’s character justice. Instead of going for this Supporter of All thing, they should’ve had him feel the betrayal of Elena knowing about Vicky’s murder and then lying to his face. So he’d be pissed at the right people instead of Caroline. He’s freezing Elena out, and maybe he comes to her party in the premier because he’s starting to cool down and maybe he doesn’t because by that time we have a firm grasp of where he stands with her. Either way he’s not as angry or hurt anymore (because he’s had a couple of scenes with her, Tyler, and Jeremy where he’s let his frustration and helplessness known). So then this thing with Bonnie happens. He sees that even these people who had silently banded together to lie to him, aren’t immune from the Salvatores’ destruction. He feels for Bonnie, but he’s also seeing that even Elena isn’t immune to it because she’s not the one who caused this. So for the first time since he found out in season 2, he starts talking to her and winds up investigating with her in this ep. Best part is that his question regarding the Salvatore would still stand and probably be more poignant since he’s just starting to forgive her for her part in Vicky’s death.

    But alas.
