I can’t process right now!

Let me know what worked for you in the episode and what didn’t. I’ll go first. What worked:

Everything Bonnie and Abby

Elena

Damon and Stefan towards the end

What didn’t work:

Tyler/Bill crap.

Alaric/Meredith.

  1. I loved everything Bonnie/Abby. I got Abby I understood why she would leave.

Elena yes, This is why I never shipped SE or DE because she is better than the Salvatores. I loved her really being there for Bonnie and wanting to talk about Bonnie’s issues.

Stefan is still crazy so that was good, and Damon was Damon but I’ve been liking it lately.

How did Klaus know to go to Abby’s house?

Elijah I really thought I wouldn’t be excited or happy to see him, because of how much I dislike his family members. But I’m really happy he’s back

Don’t care about anything else that happened this episode.

    • Yes! I loved her reason for leaving too. I’ve seen some people dislike it and saying she has to prove herself but since when have witches not been complicated. Abby was, what, in her 30s? I wonder how much death, nosebleeds, etc she’d suffered before she decided to leave? How many times had she come close to death? And finally after doing all of these things, her powers drift away. I bet she felt so lost. I think part of Bonnie will understand. She’d never abandon, but I can’t believe part of her hasn’t thought about leaving and starting over.

I was so happy to hear that line in the show! She deserves better than both of them. There are no good Salvatores. I liked the scene.

Stefan grated because of his whole, “Do your job, Bonnie” schtick, but he’s an ass so I get it.

That’s what I’d like to know. How did he know to go after Abby? What took him so long?

I know! I was surprised. I didn’t know I’d be so happy to see him back. Let’s hope he came back with his smarts.

Everything else was just wasting film and time.

      • Stefan’s such a hypocrite. Sure he’ll say that Elena’s too good for him (Stefan) *now* that he thinks he’s blown it, but it’s not like it (him being a killer vamp and her being an innocent human) stopped him from stalking/wooing her in the first place. Elena, with all her flaws, is better than D & S, of course, since she hasn’t gone on any murder sprees… but I noticed Stefan mentioned Damon first, then added himself. Stefan still thinks he’s better than his brother, which pisses me off.

You’re right jajp92 … there are no good Salvatores!

And seriously, does *someone* have to tell Elena how awesome she is in every. single. episode?! ‘Cause it feels like that’s what’s happening. To convince the viewer? If the writers keep trying to force us to like a character, we’ll feel the opposite and root for the underdog. Did they learn nothing from Smallville’s mistakes? 😛

I love how Bonnie stopped her mom from complimenting her… words are meaningless and actions are all that matter. 🙂 I’d like Elena better if she didn’t just stand there and accept everyone’s compliments as if they’re her due. At least look a little embarrassed by the praise or something. 😛

Caroline’s dad… ugh. Was that vague line about him regretting something supposed to make up for the time he tortured her? I just get this vibe like he enjoys torturing people…first Caroline…now Tyler. Not because he really wants to help them… just that he’s a sicko, y’know? Maybe it’s the actor’s fault. But I mostly blame the writers for being obsessed with torture scenes, whether it’s portrayed as a bad thing or not. (And for the record, I think torture should always be portrayed as a bad thing!)

First torture = love. Now torture = self-control and free will? Got it.

I liked Bonnie’s scenes and was irritated when it cut to Elena and Stefan. I was also irritated by Elena’s little aside to Bonnie about Jamie, when they learned he wasn’t her mom’s son, therefore Bonnie could look upon him as a love interest. ‘Cause why? ‘Cause they’re both black? Sheesh.

        • P.S. It doesn’t help that the show lingered on Tyler’s torturous transformation to an absurd, gratuitous extent. I mean, without even progressing the transformation much when they cut away and came back to the scene. It felt like the same shot of Tyler howling in pain kept repeating. Somebody is getting off on pain and scenes of torture. (Not me.)

P.P.S. How annoying that Elena felt the need to tell Stefan she kissed someone else even though they’re not together anymore and he just threatened to kill/vamp her at the scene of her parents’ death. 😛 Still she cares what he thinks? And him punching Damon later is pretty out of line and possessive and (again) hypocritical. Who is *he* to stand in judgment of Damon as worthy or unworthy of Elena’s smooches? She shouldn’t want to kiss either of their murdering vamp-mouths, but Stefan still has no right to act self-righteous and superior. Not after all he’s done.

P.P.P.S. One last rant. 🙂 I don’t like the fact that Bonnie’s mom’s backstory had to involve saving Elena. *Everybody* must save (and praise) Elena! She basically prioritized saving Elena over being with her own daughter (I know it’s a bit more complicated than that but still…) Why must everything revolve around her… whyyy? I think I just need the show to tell me how strong, brave, etc, she is a few million more times. 😛

          • Elena was talking to Stefan a bit too much for my taste. But then again she was still talking to Damon after he killed Jeremy right in front of her.

Also did you notice how when Elena told Bonnie about the kiss she said “He kissed me” And when she told Stefan about it she said “I kissed Damon”. 🙄

P.P.P.S. One last rant. I don’t like the fact that Bonnie’s mom’s backstory had to involve saving Elena. *Everybody* must save (and praise) Elena!

THIS! I noticed it! Ugh when does it ever happen the other way around? When is Bonnie ever on the side lines and then gets brought into the conversation by the person who’s talking to Elena? NEVER!

Why does Bonnie’s Story have to be about Elena? The reverse doesn’t happen.

            • Also did you notice how when Elena told Bonnie about the kiss she said “He kissed me” And when she told Stefan about it she said “I kissed Damon”.

I didn’t mind that. Had she told Stefan that Damon kissed her, Stefan probably would have thought Damon accosted her or something. She definitely kissed Damon back.

              • But then why didn’t she tell Bonnie the same thing? Does Bonnie know about the other kisses? This interaction makes me think not.

                Kat Killed her scenes though.

                • Interesting…I didn’t catch the difference in Elena’s phrasing when she told Bonnie and Stefan about kissing Damon. If Elena was concerned that Stefan would lash out at Damon (which he did anyway :P) if she said *he* kissed *her*… then Elena really should’ve phrased it the same way (*I* kissed *him*) when talking to Bonnie. ‘Cause since when is Bonnie okay with Damon anyway? I thought Bonnie would be more alarmed about Elena getting involved with him. Maybe Bonnie’s tired of taking care of Elena and being her conscience. 😉

                  • I thought Bonnie would be more alarmed about Elena getting involved with him. Maybe Bonnie’s tired of taking care of Elena and being her conscience.

I think that’s it. It’s been a while since season 1 (even though it’s only a year according to the show), but Bonnie has her own life to live. I think she’s pass worrying more for Elena than Elena worries about herself. I think she figures if Elena wants her to back her up in any way, then she’ll let her know. Until then Bonnie has her own stuff to worry about. I remember she had to accept the hard way that Elena’s tie to the Salvatores isn’t going away (back when Elena sided with them over her).

                • I don’t think she does. I think she told it to Bonnie exactly the way it happened because Bonnie wasn’t going to go off and try to hurt Damon. And I think she could tell that Elena had kissed Damon back which is why she asked if it was weird.

          • P.S. It doesn’t help that the show lingered on Tyler’s torturous transformation to an absurd, gratuitous extent.

Isn’t it convenient how Tyler didn’t maul Bill to death?

I think she felt she should tell him instead of Damon.

In uselessly bringing Elena into Bonnie’s story, they messed up their continuity. How would Mikael know about the doppelganger if everyone thought Katherine was the last one?

        • Sure he’ll say that Elena’s too good for him (Stefan) *now* that he thinks he’s blown it, but it’s not like it (him being a killer vamp and her being an innocent human) stopped him from stalking/wooing her in the first place.

Kind of true. He didn’t just become a Ripper, he’s been one all along, and he knew he had a penchant for falling off the wagon.

And seriously, does *someone* have to tell Elena how awesome she is in every. single. episode?! ‘Cause it feels like that’s what’s happening.

You made me realize it’s happened 3 episodes in a row now. Lol.

Was that vague line about him regretting something supposed to make up for the time he tortured her?

Yep. I love that the show brought him back, not for Caroline, but for Forwood. Apparently him torturing Caroline is bygones. My goodness.

Yeah, first torture was trying to take away someone’s free will, and now it’s giving it back to them. Rme.

Elena reminded me of those White (girl)friends who are always trying to hook their Black (girl)friends up with Black guys. At least Bonnie showed interest in Carter. She wasn’t even looking at Jaime. And did Elena forget she’s just coming off of a heartbreak?

          • jajp92… “Isn’t it convenient how Tyler didn’t maul Bill to death?”

Yes! I rolled my eyes very hard at that. But, after all, Tyler killing Caroline’s dad *might* hamper the inevitable Forwood reconciliation. Gotta please the shippers. 😛 I would love to see Bill die, or at least see Caroline express anger towards him. She’s been meaner to her mom, with far less reason.

“And did Elena forget she’s just coming off of a heartbreak?”

Haha! So true! But Bonnie’s ex is only Elena’s brother, so I can see how it slipped her mind. 😉 I’m sure the writers think they were portraying Elena as the best friend evah, for encouraging Bonnie to move on …only with Bonnie it’s implied, cursory concern for her love-life, while Alaric’s non-heartbreak gets an extended “it’s ok to move on” scene. Whoa, Elena’s the worst relative evah! No family loyalty to Jeremy *or* Jenna. 😛

            • Circumventing what they’ve established for a ship? Ugh. It makes the werewolves even lamer. Caroline the vampire had to run for her life last season. She and Matt had to run, and Damon got bitten. But now that a ship’s involved, human Bill managed to make it out alive.

And how about Caroline leaving her dad without warning him that Tyler might/will break his chains? Lol.

      • Do you think that this means if Bonnie tries to leave Elena Mystic Falls she will lose her powers?

When I heard that Abby was friends with Elena’s mom I rolled my eyes. Basically she was there to protect Elena (it all comes back to Elena).

I’ve head ideas that Bonnie was basically bound to Elena at a young age to guard/protect the doppelganger.

I can understand why Abby left. If you want to live you’ve got to get away from these vampires and their drama!

        The baby picture! Awwwwwwwwwwwww!

Really this show should be about the Bennetts

        • Do you think that this means if Bonnie tries to leave Elena Mystic Falls she will lose her powers?

No. Abby lost her powers because of the energy she put into entombing Mikael, not because she left MF.

I wish she had been best friends with Liz instead. But we know the Bennetts are always suffering for the Petrova/Gilberts and they get jack crap in return.

The baby picture was so cute!!!!!

          • But Abby said she felt her powers slip away. And she thought it might have been because she didn’t go back for Bonnie and the witches were punishing her.

Aww man Liz and Abby! Caroline and Bonnie! \o/

            • She drained her powers entombing Mikael. She said maybe nature was punishing her for leaving Bonnie. I think that was more of her conscience talking, because I can’t imagine nature concerning itself with something like that. Abby can’t be the only witch/warlock to have abandoned her child.

I want a scene between Abby and Liz!

              • Well since were wishing for the impossible … I want a Bonnie/Greta scene 😛

I think you’re right about the power draining. But Grams did say a lot of things fuel a witches power. Maybe Abby felt like she didn’t deserve her power after she left Bonnie. She could be blocked or something like Bonnie was in season one.

I have a feeling it’s not all gone. And I bet that when witches are together and if they are related their magic is stronger … like the Charmed ones. 😉

                • Way to shoot down my dream, lol.

Yeah, I think she’s blocked too. One thing I wish had happened in the episode is that Abby would have felt that link to Bonnie, like Bonnie felt with Lucy. But maybe it’s part of her being blocked.

          • Liz has no friends. :/ Except for Damon, the guy who abused her daughter in season one. Remember when viewers still expected Liz would find out about that and there would be some kind of consequences? Silly.

I can understand why Abby would want to leave Mystic Falls too. But why not take Baby Bonnie along? Don’t leave her on Doppelganger Duty! The Bennetts are cursed more than any vampires. 😛

    • How did Klaus know to go to Abby’s house?

Damon found the info about Bonnie’s mum at the sheriff’s office, didn’t he? Because there was this brief scene of Klaus telling somebody (this hybrid guy? can’t remember) that he’s now getting his information from the Council and in particular from “this one deputy who doesn’t stop talking” (not a direct quote but he said something similar). So I guess this deputy kept an eye on Damon while he was at the office and then told Klaus.

      • Oh that might be it. How vague. Elena got her info from the Sheriff’s office. Damon got his from somewhere else. I thought the sheriff he was talking about was Liz.

  2. This episode felt so disjointed. There were too many SLs. I wish they had scrapped the Meredith/Alaric/(Damon) stuff and the Bill/Tyler stuff.

The Alaric/Meredith/(Damon) stuff feels like such a a filler. What is the point? (And I wonder how Matt Davis feels about being in a romantic SL again.)

I guess the triangle stuff is OK but it is so boring. I feel like shipping Elena/Alaric just out of spite.

For me, the Bill/Tyler scenes was the worst part of the episode. I hate these gratuitous torture scenes. Plus, I don’t get the logic behind this SL. Is it: Tyler being able to transform without being in pain = Tyler has no reason to be thankful to Klaus = the sire bond is broken? That doesn’t seem right. The sire bond shouldn’t depend on whether Tyler has a valid reason for being thankful to Klaus. I mean, this whole sire bond is about this completely irrational loyalty towards the person who sired you. I don’t get it. But maybe I missed something?

And I dislike the way they brought Bill back. If the writers wanted him back, then they should’ve focused on the Bill/Caroline father-daughter relationship, not on Bill helping Forwood get back together (because, lbr, that’s what this whole SL is about).

I was surprised at how excited I was to see Elijah back. I just hope he doesn’t get dumbed down again.

Last but not least, I liked the Bonnie/Abby scenes but I’m not sure how I feel about the reason the show gave us for Abby leaving Mystic Falls. I have to think about that some more.

    • Emily – I agree that the sire bond explanation makes no sense. I think Bill’s full of crap. Tyler can’t train himself to feel no pain when he transforms… Bones breaking? Always gonna hurt. Bill was also nuts to think he could torture Caroline into basically not being a vampire anymore. Some things are just biological facts and can’t be altered with a “mind over matter” philosophy.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who finds the torture gratuitous. 🙂 And you’re so right the show should focus more on Caroline & her dad. The way they brought him on in the first place was so abrupt and we don’t really know much about their relationship… but then, I feel like we don’t get enough of Caroline and her mom either. Show’s definitely more interested in romantic relationships than family or friendships.

(I’m still waiting for a scene where Caroline apologizes to her mom for blaming her for Bill leaving them…remember that bit in season one where she implied her mom drove him away and “turned” her husband gay somehow? Yeah, I haven’t forgotten or forgiven that stupid remark.)

Just watch…soon we’ll have Bonnie’s mom playing matchmaker and setting up Bonnie and Jamie. Then Jeremy can return, all grateful for the mind-wipe, and encourage Elena/Damon. 😛 And Jenna is forgotten. Until Elena needs to reassure Alaric about his new romance. Sigh.

Btw, Emily, I’ll join you in shipping Elena/Alaric (as squicky as it is for him to date both aunt and niece) because, hey, at least he’s human, younger than her other love interests, and they did have chemistry that time they went into the woods looking for werewolves. 🙂

Why do they even bother calling this woman Meredith when she’s nothing like the book character? Just giving a new character that name is supposed to appease book fans? Lazy, half-assed, lame. I miss Jenna. She had so much potential. Too bad *that* actress isn’t married to Paul Wesley instead of “Meredith”, huh? 😛

      • Why should Bill even know these things? Hybrids are new. Why didn’t Tyler just call Bill and they could have done it with out involving Caroline? WHY THIS STORY LINE AT ALL?

I miss Jenna. She had so much potential. Too bad *that* actress isn’t married to Paul Wesley instead of “Meredith”, huh?

        BURN!

        • Why should Bill even know these things?

What’s beautiful is that I don’t see the usual suspects being condescending about Bill knowing all of this stuff. The same people who make snide comments about magic being able to fix things.

          • >_>

Well if you can’t trust information coming from a white man, who can you trust?

No, it doesn’t matter that he tortured his daughter.
            >_>

        • Razycrandomgirl – you crack me up with “if you can’t trust information coming from a white man…” …and why indeed should Bill be an expert on hybrids? Hybrids *are* new! Even Klaus, (who had how many years to research the subject?) was no expert and killed (for-really-real-dead) a bunch of werewolves he tried to hybrid-ize. But Bill knows all about them….how? Why am I still surprised by evidence that the writers make it up as they go along, and don’t remember what they wrote before?

          • I like your word “Hybrid-ize”

Now you know if Bill wasn’t Caroline’s daddy we would need more proof of his knowledge. If the person telling Tyler about Hybrids was coming from Bonnie’s family EVERYONE would be asking them “How do you know? >_>” And before they answered Damon would have snapped their neck.

            “writers” … I laugh

      • And Jenna is forgotten. Until Elena needs to reassure Alaric about his new romance.

That little speech felt unnecessary because Alaric wasn’t even feeling conflicted about moving on.

        Lol!

      • I think Bill’s full of crap.

Yes, he is. And I agree with your other post in which you said that he seems like a person who enjoys torturing people (kind of like a male Lexi, perhaps?). I would love it if his theory about the sire bond turned out to be wrong — but I’ve this gut feeling that the show will prove him right on this one. Idk. They seem to position him as some kind of authority on compulsion and – now – siring. Didn’t he have some throwaway line à la “yeah, a sire bond is very strong, I know, I know” which made it sound like he has expertise in this area?

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who finds the torture gratuitous.

Like you wrote in your other post, it felt like the same shot of Tyler howling in pain over and over again. If Tyler decides to follow Bill’s advice, I hope he does it off-screen.

Btw, Emily, I’ll join you in shipping Elena/Alaric (as squicky as it is for him to date both aunt and niece)

Yay! 🙂 Yeah, it is a bit squicky. And coming to think of it, not only did he date her aunt, he was also married to her mum. Okay, maybe it really is too squicky. But they do have chemistry and I could see them having a connection. I’m torn.

I miss Jenna. She had so much potential.

I miss her too. Plus, I think the actress who played her was much better than “Meredith” (AND Alaric, tbh). Maybe that’s harsh, but that’s how I see it.

        • I would love it if his theory about the sire bond turned out to be wrong

Is anyone ever wrong on this show? Other than the moonstone debacle?

Yeah, he was like “If I’m to understand, siring works like this and this and this, right?” Ugh. He sounded so sure of himself.

        • Ha! I totally forgot that Alaric was married to Elena’s birth mom. This show is frying my brain.

I completely agree that JennaActress was more talented… they finally gave her some meaty, emotional scenes at the end that really made me sad about her leaving. And so I rant to this day. 🙂 If she had to be let go, at least she’s got some great stuff for her resume/actors’ reel thingy.

MeredithActress seems to have a reputation for being a bad actress, based on the comments I’ve seen online from those who’ve watched her in other shows. Of course I wonder why she keeps getting hired for so many shows then. (Is she a polygamist?) 😉

    • Matt Davis probably likes it because Alaric doesn’t have to lie, so his ~creativity is not restricted. I agree that they should have scrapped everything unless it directly related to Bonnie.

I guess the triangle stuff is OK but it is so boring. I feel like shipping Elena/Alaric just out of spite.

      Lol.

You’re missing the irrationality. The story isn’t logical. Bill’s logic makes no sense, and the show is pulling this stuff out of its butt.

      • You’re missing the irrationality. The story isn’t logical. Bill’s logic makes no sense, and the show is pulling this stuff out of its butt.

it’s going out of it’s way to give Bonnie and her family/the witches a teeny ass story that has to relate to or involve vampires at all time.

Elijah should give Lucy a call. Cause he would if this were a better show and woc were writing it.

And the Salvatore Brothers should be Asian.

  3. Ok, since I’ve been so negative about this ep, it’s time for some positivity. 3 moments I loved in this ep:

    1. The moment when this one tear is trailing down Bonnie’s cheek and she brushes it away. So good!!! Ugh, my emotions! (This ep had lots of good Bonnie moments. So many good reaction shots!)
    2. This one shot of Elena. I think it’s the one before Stefan appears? Not 100% sure, I’ve only watched the ep once. Anyway, she’s standing outside, in front of this shed, and the camera is zooming in on her. Such a pretty shot.
    3. This one scene in the witch house when the witches give Klaus an aneurysm and Damon goes “LOL, I made the same mistake earlier.” I can’t explain it but there’s something about that brief moment and Damon’s facial expression and his apparent schadenfreude that really worked for me, lol.

Special mention to Stefan’s face when Elena told him about the kiss. Yeah, I know, the Stelena stuff was kind of bizarre in this ep (but tbh, I expect much worse when it comes to triangle stuff, so I’m actually fine with their interaction) but I thought that was well acted and well shot.

Yep, I think that are my top 3 (or 4? lol) moments.

    • I love that moment! Bonnie is very guarded with her emotions and that was one moment where she wasn’t fast enough to lock everything away. You can see it in the way she wipes the tear away. She looks kind of annoyed.

That scene between Damon and Klaus was funny because it was like Damon was taking pleasure in the fact that he’s now used to it and Klaus isn’t.
