  1. DID EVERYONE SEE ELENA BENCHPRESSING?!!!! Lmaooo! Wtf is this?

She’s going to throw herself off some bleachers to test Stefan?

Caroline didn’t go through anything in 3.05 so how is she reeling from recent events?

I want/need a Bon/Jer scene in this episode. I didn’t mind them not talking in 3.05 since I loved the Bonnie/Matt scenes and I like them doing separate things, but I need to see them talk about this ghost stuff.

Is the new student Stefan? Or Rebekah? Is the unwanted house guest Stefan? Or Michael? Please don’t let Michael stay with the freaking Salvatores. Or is it Elena? So she can keep an eye on Stefan?

    • DID EVERYONE SEE ELENA BENCHPRESSING?!!!! Lmaooo! Wtf is this?

It’s going to take her a 1/10th of an episode to be able to think of something to do. and be a weight lifter. I’m excited.

Can’t maintain this level of sarcasm.

She’s going to throw herself off the bleachers to give Alaric a chance to tranq him. Otherwise, it’s a fallacious test. Stefan has been tasked with keeping her alive. That’s all.

Caroline didn’t go through anything in 3.05 so how is she reeling from recent events?

What happened to Tyler is apparently going to be on her. I’m assuming.

Is the new student Stefan? Or Rebekah? Is the unwanted house guest Stefan? Or Michael? Please don’t let Michael stay with the freaking Salvatores. Or is it Elena? So she can keep an eye on Stefan?

One would hope that none of this is true. Though I imagine that Stefan is the unwanted house guest. Don’t know about student though. I can’t think of anyone except for Rebecca.

      • It’s going to take her a 1/10th of an episode to be able to think of something to do. and be a weight lifter. I’m excited.

        Lol.

She sounds so pathetic when she says she knew he’d catch her. Maybe the loss of blood is affecting her short-term memory.

As in she’ll feel like it’s her fault?

        • Damon did give her bourbon afterwards, like that’s what someone needs after so much blood loss.

Wish I could care about Elena, but right now I’m just grossed out by how much she loves Stefan.

          • Damon did give her bourbon afterwards, like that’s what someone needs after so much blood loss.

Lmao. I do this everytime after I donated my blood.

    • Is the new student Stefan? Or Rebekah?

What if Rebekah was assigned to Tyler like Stefan was assigned to Elena? There was a pre-season spoiler that a character named Bex would try to take away something important to Caroline. Rebekah didn’t seem afraid of Michael in the 20s flashback. She wanted to stay right where she was while Klaus ran. She wasn’t going to bring Stefan with them or even runaway with Stefan without Klaus. She was going to stay put. Maybe Michael is only after Klaus.

      • Another possibility is that she might think Michael is just a myth. Even when she told Klaus that Stefan was asking about him it seemed to be more about how she knew Klaus would react and less that she was that bothered about Stefan asking. I know she didn’t want to answer Stefan’s questions, but I haven’t detected any fear from her. They really should’ve given Klaus and Rebekah a couple of scenes alone. You know they would have if it was Elijah.

  2. So they’ve found a tranquilizer gun? Okay. They’re not even going to let this Stefan stuff go for more than one episode? Okay. He’s going to save her and we’re supposed to assume it has something to do with his feelings and not what Klaus ordered him to do? Okay.

If I keep saying Okay, chances are I’ll be less bored by everything going on.

And Elena’s lifting weights now? Okay.

  3. I am dying right now is she really working out right now with a benchpress. They need to cut that scene out bad idea.

Because benchpressing weights will make you strong enough to take out a vampire.

  4. Elena has a good idea NOW? After 5 eps of non-stop bad ideas?? Stefan had to tell her to run in tonight’s ep. She was too dumb to run for her life when the mad man was coming to eat her.

What do you guys think is happening with the burning car?

Vicky seems to be hugging Matt. How is she able to have that much physical contact? It looks like Matt’s hand that is bleeding over a picture(?). Do you guys think he is doing magic?? How? Did Vicky make a deal with the Original Witch in exchange for relaying a message? It would make more sense than Vicky giving a damn about Elena and Tyler

    • It’s stupid. She’s only choosing to lock him up after she decides…what? I have no idea. Before she was set on “saving” him.

Matt better not be doing magic. That can’t be. Bonnie’s probably doing it. Maybe to summon Vicky so they can all see her? No idea.

I got nothing on the burning car.

      • Before she was set on “saving” him.

Oh right. She is still looking to “save” him while ignoring that KLAUS is still the thing that is standing in her way. Even in tonight’s ep, she acted like Stefan chose to be “gone” (he was “gone” in the season 2 finale AFAIC but Elena does not care about other people). She SAW him being compelled.

          • She sounded like he just decided to try to kill her.

Which presents a completely different kind of problem when it comes to her not running away. Come on, Elena. If your boyfriend decides to kill you stop trying to talk him out of it and get the fuck away.

      • It looks like Elena is in the burning car.

Is Matt going to try and do magic to bring Vicki back and mess shut up because you can’t just go around doing shit.
Bonnie is going to have to save his ass again next week. Matt is just so sad. Maybe he does need to get laid but not by Bonnie.

        • I don’t think Matt is going to try and do magic because he wouldn’t even know where to start and Bing is not that good of a search engine. I think the mistake he made was killing himself (temporarily) in the first place or maybe talking to Vicki afterwards. So he’s going to go to Bonnie for help, because she would be able to help and already knows the situation.

    • Stefan had to tell her to run in tonight’s ep.

This is sad. Like I want to cry, sad.

Is Elena’s idea even a good one, though? Or just one with a foreseeable and positive outcome? (I’m not giving her any credit until the episode airs) She wants to lock Stefan up now, but she’s still not talking about killing him. & unless they figure out a way to kill Klaus, killing Stefan should be the only option.

I don’t think Matt is doing magic. It’s probably some adverse effect of dying and coming into contact with Vicki or something.

      • Idk why I keep giving Elena credit. I guess her level of stupid is hard for me to comprehend. After thinking about it for more than a min, she is probably going to try and break through his compulsion to “save” him.

    • What do you guys think is happening with the burning car?

I suppose this is connected to the ghost SL (like the burning grimoires in 3×04).

        • Why Elena and not Stefan? Stefan is the one who killed Vicki the second time. Plus, Elena has nothing to do with Matt now. Unless he gets sucked into trying to protect her from Stefan or keeping an eye on her while they are at school. And Vicki is not happy about that.

It does seem like Elena is in a truck. Is it possible that it is Matt’s truck? Now that would be a “dick” move (as the characters like to say) on Vicki’s part.

          • Yeah it would make more sense if it was Stefan. Maybe she’s working on orders from the Original witch? I don’t know how I would feel about that, but we know the witch wants Elena dead for the greater good. That’s why she gave Vicky that message to pass on to Matt.

  5. what horrible hybrid thing is Tyler going to be up too? Does it need a ring to walk in the daylight? He is undead. Can a stake kill him, does wolvesbane or vervain hurt him? He is not an original so where are his limits?

    • I don’t think that Tyler will need a sun walking ring. Klaus told the werewolf pack from Tennessee that Hybrids are not ruled by the sun or the moon. I think that means that Tyler will be able to shift at will and be able to walk in the sun. As for the wolvesbane and vervain, all we have to go on is Ray at this point. He reacted to both but he was also a failed experiment.

I have no clue about the stake or how he can be killed.

  6. If Elena wants to be able to take on a vampire, why doesn’t she ask Ric to train her in shooting crossbows and whatnot? You need weapons Elena, not the ability to punch a dummy. I bet this will lead to “sweaty, out of breath panting” moments between her and Damon. Elena can train all she wants, but in the end Jeremy knows how to shoot a stake, Alaric knows how, Matt knows how to shoot a gun with wooden bullets, and so does Liz which makes them more capable of taking on a vampire than she is/will be.

    • If Elena wants to be able to take on a vampire, why doesn’t she ask Ric to train her in shooting crossbows and whatnot?

Because then she won’t be able to be sweaty around Damon. Where is she even exercising that Stefan isn’t going to notice? There’s no gym at the Gilbert house.

        • Mystic Falls doesn’t have a gym?7

We only saw the schools gym … which brings me to one question. Who cleaned up that mess Stefan created?
There must be a special industrial cleaning group who is specialised on something like that.

Will we see some teens mourning for Dana and Chad like we saw for Aimee and Sarah?

          • I bet Sheriff Forbes will help clean up the crime scene. She is buddy buddy with Damon and was even helping him bring his serial killer brother home. Why wouldn’t she help cover up Stefan’s murders at this point? Also, the FF really don’t want the regular people of Mystic Falls to know about the supernatural. I think keeping this info from the public is part of what gives them power.

  7. I´m laughing so hard at Elena working out … I think Stefan will make fun of her during their jogging session.

I´m also laughing at Damon´s line “No one will hurt you! Especially not my brother” as if all his former violating acts towards her were forgotten and forgiven.
But oh. Right that´s what always happen with them.

At first I thought Bonnie would cause the fire to hold Stefan up for a reason … but I don´t know anymore. Especially after I thought that Bonnie could control the fire. and stop it at will.

I see many steamy DE-moments. Yes that´s what I waited for all season long /sarcasm end

I think the House Guest will be Stefan, because I think they won´t involve Michael that much with the group at the moment.
The new student most likely will be Rebekah.

Don´t know what to think about the plan of locking him up … Stefan is in full ripper mode and pretty much on a blood high.
He will probably be able to break free. But we will see how it plays out on screen.

    • I´m also laughing at Damon´s line “No one will hurt you! Especially not my brother” as if all his former violating acts towards her were forgotten and forgiven.

Ugh. As if he didn’t force-feed Elena his blood and Stefan had to defend her from him.

  8. I just saw those stills. Loling at Stelena. I guess he will be wherever she is so he can protect her. But mostly I am Loling at the thought of seeing PW and ZR in a High School. They are going to look like such pervy old men.

    • Loling at Stelena. I guess he will be wherever she is so he can protect her.

I hope he snarks. I hope he snarks all the time. Mostly because this is clearly leading up to him falling for her again (I be this is the loophole: Klaus told him to forget he loved Elena, bot to never love her again) and I’m going to gag when that happens.

mostly I am Loling at the thought of seeing PW and ZR in a High School. They are going to look like such pervy old men.

It’s weird because ZR looked like cherub in the first half of the first season. Like ridiculously young. Now he looks as if he’s aged about 9 years. I don’t know why they never capitalized on someone being suspicious about Stefan’s age. He’s never looked 17.

      • I hope he snarks. I hope he snarks all the time.

Of course, he would. Right? He knows everything about her. The appeal of Stefan for Elena, in the beginning, was that she was comfortable telling him anything. She spilled her guts to him within a week of meeting him. And now he has no conscience. How can this not be leading up to him using everything he knows against her? Why would they even set up this situation if….Nevermind

It’s weird because ZR looked like cherub in the first half of the first season. Like ridiculously young. Now he looks as if he’s aged about 9 years

He is very very light skinned and, from what I gather from his Twitter, a very outdoorsy person

        • Of course, he would. Right? He knows everything about her. The appeal of Stefan for Elena, in the beginning, was that she was comfortable telling him anything. I second your nevermind because of course the show won’t go there, but wouldn’t it be delightful if he did? Especially if you look at it in terms of Stefan’s secrets having to be forced out of him. It’s not like I want to see Elena get hurt by him, but I also don’t want to watch a storyline about how sensitive Stefan manages to be despite not loving Elena.

He is very very light skinned and, from what I gather from his Twitter, a very outdoorsy person/

That makes sense. Gotta wear sun-screen.

      • (I be this is the loophole: Klaus told him to forget he loved Elena, bot to never love her again)

Take it back, take it back!!!! Loophole is another word for contrivance on this show.

        • I find this loophole more tolerable than their love is powerful enough to overcome compulsion or their love is not the story of thing that can be erased. All three options are pretty gross, but this is the least offensive to me.

All the same, I take it back.

          • It still would be the same message in a way. What if he falls for her through the loophole and then starts fighting the compulsion because she gives him strength or something?

            • It still would be the same message in a way. What if he falls for her through the loophole and then starts fighting the compulsion because she gives him strength or something?

Welp. When you put it like that there are simply no good outcomes to them falling in love again. There love needs to be killed with a fire, a nice roaring blaze of flames.

              • Lol. How can he fall in love with his switch off anyway? Didn’t Lexi say that one of the benefits of having the switch on was the ability to love? I could sort of buy Damon’s love for Katherine because he fell in love with her before he turned off anything. Idk. I hated the “soul” business in Buffy and I hate the “switch” stuff here.

                • Didn’t Lexi say that one of the benefits of having the switch on was the ability to love?

Can’t have canon from s2 getting in the way of Stelena. Canon from s2 that contradicted canon from s1. Canon means what again? The writers don’t know.

The soul business didn’t bother me, but they were pretty consistent about that on BtVs and on AtS.

The “switch” bothers me because it would have been just as easy to say there were good vampires and there were bad vampires and it was all about paths and decisions and stuff. Plus I can’t help thinking of it as a light switch and that bothers me.

                  • I can’t help thinking of it as a light switch

                    LOL. Me too!

I wish they would just say that the only thing the “switch” turns off is a vampire’s conscience and that true love is not possible without a conscience.

                    • I wish they would just say that the only thing the “switch” turns off is a vampire’s conscience and that true love is not possible without a conscience.

Yes! This would actually be perfect and then there would be no need to have the switch go away. Another one of my problems with the switch is that emotions are more than just sadness, love and happiness. Emotions contribute to activity and the desire to do things. Pleasure is an emotion even if it’s pleasure derived from cruelty. So it would make more sense for the switch to turn of the conscience than to turn off all emotions and certain emotions would be erased by not having a conscience.

                    • This is actually how I conceived of the switch in season 1. That it turned their conscious off so they would ruthless. But feelings? Vamps would have to be pretty advanced to be able to determine what feeling is what (I remember Susan, I think, saying maybe they choose which feeling to turn off).

                    • This is actually how I conceived of the switch in season 1. That it turned their conscious off so they would ruthless.

                      Me too.

But feelings? Vamps would have to be pretty advanced to be able to determine what feeling is what (I remember Susan, I think, saying maybe they choose which feeling to turn off).

I thought this because of Elena telling Jenna to turn off her emotions so she wouldn’t be afraid. I would think that even a person without a conscience would be able to feel fear. But, maybe, Elena, doesn’t know what she is talking about.

              • I was referring to Alta’s post (What if he falls for her through the loophole and then starts fighting the compulsion because she gives him strength or something?). I’m pretty sure she hit the nail on the head. This sounds like something this show would do.

                • What if the loophole is the switch only works half way or is faulty because of Stefan’s age like Rose said? He was compelled to turn it off but maybe he can’t physically comply with that compulsion completely so things start to fall apart that way??? I am sure Stelena’s epic love will come into play somehow but I can’t deal with their love being the only factor.

                  • This would be slightly less awful than Stelena’s love conquering all, but why wouldn’t Klaus predict that? He’s got know how vampires work. Even with his hearing, smelling, and sight issues.

                    • why wouldn’t Klaus predict that?

Maybe Klaus originally only wanted Stefan to turn off his switch so that he would kill Elena and have nothing to come back to. Maybe he didn’t count on this being permanent forever. But he had to leave town in a hurry and made do with what he had at that moment. This is the only way he could somewhat ensure Stefan’s loyalty *and* Elena’s protection in the small amount of time he had. Maybe it was a stop gap measure. Maybe Maybe Maybe. I am grasping at straws.

  9. What is going on with these girls in the scene in which Stefan says “These ladies are helping me to be all that I can be”? Is this the Stefan version of Damon compelling the sorority girls back in S1?

You know, these writers will have Ripper Stefan repeat all kinds of stuff that Damon did in early S1. Because haha, parallels, aren’t we clever. This is going to be very annoying.

    • What I hate about this and I’ve probably talked about it in different ways a lot, is that the writers don’t seem to understand that Stefan and Damon are two different people, who have tied themselves pretty close together with the good brother/bad brother dynamic, but they aren’t same in terms of motive and intent and action.

So while, I don’t expect Stefan not to have compelled a pair of girls (what happened to vervaine in the town water supply) I do expect him to do something different from Damon when it comes to what he forces them to do. It’s just another example of how lazy the writers are.

I wanted more subtly in this storyline, a true exploration of how Stefan is actually twisted, and how his ‘good’ traits could be inverted and the outcome of that being horrifying and compelling at the same time (because one would have to reconsider how ‘good’ he actually is). But why do that when we can watch him do Damon-esque things, seem to be the writers opinion. They’ve got one idea for an interesting bad guy and they want to beat it to death.

I agree with what you said about how Stefan is part of Stelena and not really allowed to have a characterization outside of that and that he suffers from that more than Damon, primarily because he was framed as the perfect boyfriend for two seasons and since no one was questioning that, there was only the occasional exploration of who he was outside of that (like the blood!arc; which if it proved anything, it proved that Elena needed to ask more questions because “who is Stefan” and how much does she actually know about him?). At least part of what’s happened in s3 needed to have had more establishment in s2.

      • They’ve got one idea for an interesting bad guy and they want to beat it to death.

Yes, I think this also applies to Klaus to some extent. He had/has Damon-esque moments/lines from time to time. Especially when he came on the show in late S2.

So while, I don’t expect Stefan not to have compelled a pair of girls (what happened to vervaine in the town water supply) I do expect him to do something different from Damon when it comes to what he forces them to do. It’s just another example of how lazy the writers are.

Yes, I agree. I also second your wish for more subtlety in this SL.

So, what I gather from this promo is that Stefan is draining these girls and then is “high on human blood”, as Damon says. Which I suppose means the blood addiction angle is going to be played up again. Sigh.

        • My question is, where was it this whole time? If they’re going to play this like an addiction, then Stefan should be beyond high. He should be at that stage where needs more to get his fix. People should be dropping like flies in MF.

          • My question is, where was it this whole time? If they’re going to play this like an addiction, then Stefan should be beyond high. He should be at that stage where needs more to get his fix. People should be dropping like flies in MF.

It doesn’t exist. If it existed Mystic Falls would look like Monterey did in 1917, which was dead. And if Stefan takes out most of the high school then he can’t be forgiven. At least not sensibly.

            • Ugh. It’s so dumb because we’re going to have Stefan pushing that kid which I guess will be a callback to him forcing that guy to apologize to Elena. Where was this behavior while he was with Klaus? And I also feel that now that I Stefan rips people apart, I shouldn’t be seeing him push people down. That seems like a contradiction. Why not just have him do what he did to Grant and Lilah? He is more sinister than just pushing people.

              • Where was this behavior while he was with Klaus?

Probably in the proper timeline for this season where we didn’t have to see Stefan until the second half of episode 5 and everything about what he’d been doing while out of town was inferred instead of contradicted at every turn. Basically, on the better version of this show.

He was, given what he’s going to be doing, extremely level-headed while he was with Klaus. I don’t get why that behavior couldn’t be extended into the storyline now so that instead of just shoving dudes against lockers he broke their arm or something and then compelled them to walk it off or tell people that they’d run into a door or something.

His violence shouldn’t be so juvenile because despite him being eternally 17, the show hasn’t established him, in any way as being immature. Or if it is juvenile, in terms of it being in defense of Elena, then it should come with the cruelty of what he was doing in the 20s. No shoving people into lockers, but compelling the guy to do something that would hurt, shame or embarrass him in some way. Or threatening him in just the right way. It’s like Mags said on Tumblr once. Stefan is cerebral, which is what makes him scary. He should be, in a lot ways, above acting like a jock.

But this storyline isn’t even about Stefan anymore, if it ever was (I wonder if Paul Wesley wishes he’d just kept quiet about wanting to explore Stefan?) so why keep him consistent from episode to episode.

    • You know, these writers will have Ripper Stefan repeat all kinds of stuff that Damon did in early S1.

And the Stefan stans will be crowing about how Stefan’s doing it better.

      • And the Stefan stans will be crowing about how Stefan’s doing it better.

This will actually be more annoying than the writers reusing “evil deeds”.

Sometimes I wonder if the Stefan stans see the irony in their stanning. Because it’s almost hilarious.

        • I think that’ll be the case for me too.

I don’t know how they can say Stefan’s evil is better than Damon’s and at the same time say Stefan is heroic and sacrificial.

          • I don’t know how they can say Stefan’s evil is better than Damon’s and at the same time say Stefan is heroic and sacrificial.

If they admit that Stefan’s evil then they’d have to admit that he and Damon are on equal footing when it comes to being horrible, but if they say that Stefan’s evil is better than Damon’s and against his will because he wants to save people, then he gets to be better in both ways. It’s like ultimate Damon fangirling. Only for Stefan.

            • I don’t understand the stock people have in Stefan being a good guy. I don’t think it even has anything to do with shipping him with Elena. I think it has to do with saying screw you to Damon, and that’s very weird.

              • I don’t understand the stock people have in Stefan being a good guy.

I don’t really get it either, even as a screw you to Damon, since wouldn’t that negate his good guy status? The show encourages basic readings of the characters and pits them against each other in ways that are…lazy and reductive. Which, yeah Stefan and Damon are living out the good/bad brother thing, but there’s so much more (or there could be) going on with them than that.

        • Sometimes I wonder if the Stefan stans see the irony in their stanning.

No they don’t. I posted about the irony of it all on TWOP and Stefan stans were unmoved. And check out the TVD tag on ONTD. The majority there are Stefan stans. The comments are priceless. People are going to like who they like which is fine but I don’t understand how you can love one brother and hate the other at this point.

          • but I don’t understand how you can love one brother and hate the other at this point.

Well I love (&hate) Stefan in all his potential sociopathic glory, but Damon does nothing for me. I don’t think Stefan is better than Damon though.

            • Perhaps, “love” was the wrong word. I was referring to all the excuses people are still making for Stefan’s behavior and how people are *still* saying he is selfless. The fact that he tried to kill himself in the last ep is proof of that for a lot of people. All I noticed is that he missed and I think it was deliberate. I used to be very interested in both of them in season one. As for love, I used to love Damon. I was in love with Damon, Bonnie and Caroline in season one. I still love Bonnie and Caroline. I oscillate between mild interest and hate when it comes to Damon.

              • All I noticed is that he missed and I think it was deliberate.

It’s hard to believe that he would kill himself, in that moment. And I get that we’re meant to assume that it was to protect Elena, but even if that is the case Stefan has had plenty of opportunities to kill himself or let himself die in order to protect others. He’s taken none of them. He hasn’t even considered taking them. So nope. He can’t be called selfless in that moment and I don’t get fandoms desire to call it selfless, either.

I miss season one so much.

              • Maybe Klaus originally only wanted Stefan to turn off his switch so that he would kill Elena and have nothing to come back to.

I don’t know what’s worse. The fact that this explanation actually works and is indicative of how Elena being alive is actually a bad thing (for both the good guys and the bad guys) or that the show’s explanation will be worse.

                • It only makes some sense if you ignore the fact that a half vampire assigned a vampire to protect someone important to him to escape a vampire hunter. I guess Michael is only after the Original family or just Klaus.

                  • I guess Michael is only after the Original family or just Klaus.

Unless he’s older than them, I don’t get the Original families fear of him. Is he going to do to them what the witches did to him? Also, Michael doesn’t seem to concerned with hunting vampires. He knew what Stefan was in the flashbacks and didn’t kill him. He told him something like “This isn’t about you” when Stefan got a bit defensive. At least I think he said something like that.

So Michael is already a bit of a dud in his vampire hunting capabilities. (What even is the second half of this season going to be?)

                    • He told him something like “This isn’t about you” when Stefan got a bit defensive. At least I think he said something like that.

Yes, he did. I think he said “I’m not here for you.”

Maybe it’s somehow important that Stefan had picked up the necklace just before he was talking to Michael? Since it’s supposed to be magical and we’re clearly not done with this plot device?

                    • So Michael is already a bit of a dud in his vampire hunting capabilities. (What even is the second half of this season going to be?)

I barely know what the first half is about. I know the facts. Stefan’s a Ripper and Klaus is a hybrid. But what is the arc of this first half? Saving Stefan and killing Klaus? Because the characters outside of Damon/Elena are just doing their own thing. Damon/Elena don’t talk to them. Which I guess is a blessing because they would surely talking about their issue (Stefan)

  10. I just saw the extended promo … this show is so effing horrible. Did Stefan push Tyler …

Uhm …She’s practicing staking immobile dummies, but then she just wants to lock Stefan up … *side eye*

    • Uhm …She’s practicing staking immobile dummies, but then she just wants to lock Stefan up … *side eye*

Maybe she wants to keep his body close by? Or she’s lost higher brain functions?

Why would she practice staking on immobile dummies? Is Stefan going stand patiently and wait to die or something?

    • Uhm …She’s practicing staking immobile dummies, but then she just wants to lock Stefan up … *side eye*

All this physical faux empowerment stuff is really bothering me. Elena, like Bonnie in some ways, comes from a long line of people (Gilberts and Isobel) who have been dealing with the supernatural. What would really be empowering is if she became research!girl by following in the footsteps of her biological mother. Why doesn’t she set up camp in Isobel’s office. You never know – Maybe info about leprechauns will be useful in the upcoming zombie apocalypse. There is also all the Founding Family journals and records.

How cool would it be if it turns out that Grayson was doing medical/scientific experiments on captured vampires and he kept records on that? I mean, why was there a huge supply of weapons in the Gilbert cabin? What was it doing there? It wasn’t really in a handy place for self defence since the Gilberts spent most of their time in their Mystic Falls home. Maybe Grayson and Miranda used to do some hunting on the side. Idk. Just something – anything else would be better than this. I am not saying that the physical stuff is not useful. A tiny improvement in your chances is useful but COME ON.

And yes, she won’t try to kill Stefan so the whole thing is even more pointless

      • What would really be empowering is if she became research!girl by following in the footsteps of her biological mother.

Yes. Or if she, shocker, realized that her priorities were all messed up, and she let Stefan go, and decided to focus on trying to help stop him and Klaus.

As for the Gilbert weapons, you just made me realize that didn’t go anywhere.

      • What would really be empowering is if she became research!girl by following in the footsteps of her biological mother. Why doesn’t she set up camp in Isobel’s office. You never know – Maybe info about leprechauns will be useful in the upcoming zombie apocalypse. There is also all the Founding Family journals and records.

Yes! If she became research!girl that would be great. Even if it meant the show would have to slow down. I don’t understand why more research doesn’t go down on this show anyway, especially since everyone in the past left such detailed journals/records behind.

        • Olu, I just looked at your tumblr account. I love the pic that compares Damon to a cat. Another TVD watcher used to tell me that how IS plays Damon reminded her of her cat. She even e-mailed me pics of her cat. It hit me when he was feeding Vicki his blood on the couch (in season one) and he looked up while resting his chin on her head. It may have something to do with his big eyes and how he moves. It would be AWESOME if this caught on and became an actual internet meme like the Stefan/Puppet Angel thing.

          • There was something almost caught on before, with IS pics next to pics of Alaskan huskies and it was hilarious, but yeah. Damon is a cat would be great. He does have big eyes, as he likes to remind us, someone should capitalize on this.

  11. What if Elijah was right? I mean, clearly he was wrong since Klaus has a reason to be afraid, but what if all this is because Klaus is mad paranoid about Michael (only it’s not paranoia to Klaus because he knows why he’s being hunted) and the only problem with this storyline is that the writers aren’t writing it that way?

    • What if it *is* paranoia and Michael’s only wish is to reunite with his long lost friend/brother/son/wtvr? What if Klaus is his Stefan and he only wants a hug? 😆

    • the only problem with this storyline is that the writers aren’t writing it that way?

Maybe they are trying to write it that way but they are doing it poorly so it is not coming across well?? For example, Rebekah seemed to have no clue as to why he would need a Hybrids other than his loneliness. Stefan had the same reaction even though Klaus explicitly told him that he was going to build an army. A private army with no goal and no possible enemies makes no sense to me. Rebekah obviously cares about him but she didn’t take Michael seriously enough in the 20s to ensure Klaus’ safety. Instead, she spent time talking about how much she lurves Stefan.

      • Maybe they are trying to write it that way but they are doing it poorly so it is not coming across well??

        This would be sad.

Maybe Rebekah doesn’t understand why he needs a whole army against one dude, vampire or no. That seems like overkill. Stefan had the reaction before Klaus told him he was going to build the army, but if anything Stefan should have asked him why he was building an army and what he was preparing for. Not whatever question he ended up asking him.

Rebekah obviously cares about him but she didn’t take Michael seriously enough in the 20s to ensure Klaus’ safety. Instead, she spent time talking about how much she lurves Stefan.

Yeah. That was weird. Why didn’t she ask to take Stefan along? Why didn’t Klaus just take him along? Ugh. This show sometimes. Klaus could have just compelled Stefan not to get them caught. It’s the reluctance from Rebekah and Klaus that makes me think that Michael isn’t as much as a threat to them as he is to Klaus. Though, Klaus didn’t seem to concerned about him “Klaus” so who knows what’s up.

I’m still trying to figure out why Michael is such a threat. Because he’s a vampire? He didn’t try to compel Stefan in the past, so he doesn’t seem to be an Original. I just want to know what was up.

    • Lol. What got me was the jealousy and the side-eying of Elena’s drinking. The switch continues to confuse me. I suppose it is possible to be jealous without a conscience, right?? Maybe he views her more like a possession now that he can’t feel love.

The first time Stelena hung out together, it was at a party and Elena was holding a beer. Maybe it has gotten excessive now because, like we have seen in the last ep, Damon is an alcoholic who encourages alcoholism in all those around him. But why would Stefan care about that?

      • Maybe he’s jealous because…I don’t know. The only thing that works would him seeing her as a possession, but what feeling would he hold towards her that would warrant jealousy. Especially since Elena is apparently going to start vampire-defense training…three seasons into the game.

But why would Stefan care about that?

Because the writers fail at writing? I don’t know. This seems pretty lame. Unless he connects the drinking with her training and makes jokes about it. Because it’s not like Elena was living a dry life while she was with Stefan so…?

This seems like the most ridiculous time, plotwise, to make the Stefan/Elena/Damon triangle equilateral. Stefan isn’t in love with her anymore. & whatever is going to happen down the line, can’t we build up to it instead of…whatever is going on now? Especially since the Delena side of it makes no sense. Not that the Stelena side of things makes sense at this point, but at least they’ve got their history.

Maybe Stefan side-eyeing her drinking is the writers way of reminding us that Stefan is an addict. Or something.

        • I said “Especially since Elena is apparently going to start vampire-defense training…three seasons into the game.? when I meant to say that jealousy is an emotion that is tied to a feeling of affection or desire.

Which, looking back, my actual sentence is a glorious segue way.

        • EEWWWW!!!!

LOL. Actually, I thought that is what was happening with the exercising at first (because I have a disturbed mind??) – Elena *thinks* she is empowering herself but it is actually going to be about Stefan manipulating her to get healthier for Klaus. She needs to be able to withstand numerous blood donations. She is basically like a farm animal now, right? Rebekah called her a cow. I know Rebekah wasn’t referring to the harvesting of Elena’s blood but still.

  12. Tyler’s going to hurt someone on that football field, isn’t he? Similar to when he wanted to hurt Stefan in season 1? I’m a little annoyed that they might be brining back Tyler’s douche personality just to highlight that he’s a ~Hybrid. He should’ve always been like that instead of whatever he’s been the past couple of episodes.

    • He should’ve always been like that instead of whatever he’s been the past couple of episodes.

Idk what is happening with the show. It seems like they want to rewrite season 2 and keep finding contrived reasons to regress characters to where they should have been back then.

      • I don’t know. It just seems like they’re trying. First of all, I have no idea why Tyler is so happy. Does he realize how many werewolves died before Klaus could find his “success?” Did the vampyrism come with a bit of compulsion? Because he seems to have forgotten who Klaus is, what he wants, and what he represents. I feel like this fight should not be happening because Tyler shouldn’t be this naive, borderline stupid. Caroline shouldn’t have to be chastising him. I feel she should be more shocked and confused. She should be asking him what’s wrong with him instead of going “I can’t believe you just said that” as if he just said something, I don’t know, insensitive. I guess my problem is that this is being handled less seriously than I think it should be.

And of course you have Elena bowing out of the scene, making it seem like a couple’s quarrel that needs to stay private instead of the big freaking issue it is since Tyler is now a different creature.

Oh my God. Oh.my.God. Tyler being a Hybrid is going to be Forwood fodder.

        • Oh my God. Oh.my.God. Tyler being a Hybrid is going to be Forwood fodder.

I CAN’T with this. The Bill aversion therapy already seemed like Forwood fodder to me. Everything must be about a ship on this show. That is why I loved Bonnie/Grams and Anna/Pearl (although that became somewhat about a ship too).

        • I thought Elena left because she couldn’t be bothered. That’s what it looks like. How does she have any friends? And Tyler … Ugh! Invasion of the body snatchers.

          • I thought Elena left because she couldn’t be bothered.

I thought she was trying to help. She checked the stalls and then got the paper towels. Why would she do that if she wasn’t planning to help? But Tyler launched into how awesome Klaus is. That is when she was like, screw this and dropped the paper towels where she was standing. I thought there was a clear change in her behavior from before Tyler was a jerk to after.

Elena is awful but not quite that awful. It is more like she will help if something is happening right in-front of her or if someone asks her (like Caroline did here about the bonfire) but she won’t volunteer or *ask* her friends what they need without prompting. That is why I think the Elena/Bonnie friendship is toxic. Elena won’t ask and Bonnie won’t tell without being asked.

  13. Hahaha! Elena is going to some cheerleading thing after she was almost killed and traumatized by her bf the previous day. She still has a scarf around her neck to cover the neck wound. And Caroline is actually pressuring her to go. OMG! I wish I did drugs, tbh. This show must enhance the experience so much.

      • Probably never. Becoming a vampire is supposed to exaggerate your human personality. Remember when kept repeating “I am fine” over and over again after Elena found her in the Lockwood family’s lawn? She was shaking, hyperventilating and bleeding from the neck but she kept repeating that mantra. I am talking about when Damon tried to murder her. I think that is her go to response – Everything is fine. There is nothing to see here folks.

That is why I find Tyler interesting in the clip. I think it is supposed to show that he was a milder form of this before.

        • Yeah, but as it’s presented, it’s completely 2D. In the example you mentioned, she was clearly not fine. As you said, she was hyperventilating and shaking. Here it’s presented as she really is fine/happy/excited/etc.

          • True. I was thinking that she got better at faking being fine but I am not sure that makes sense. Shouldn’t she be losing control in other ways?

*Sigh* Another failed attempt by me to make sense of the show.

            • Shouldn’t she be losing control in other ways?

That’s true. Plus it would be weird if this was the only part of her personality that got exaggerated. When she was a human, what happened when she couldn’t fake anymore? We saw her breakdown in Elena’s arms. Then she went into “move on mode” with the Halloween party (I think), then she crashed that night Matt had to take her home.

  14. I do like how Elena got paper towels to clean Tyler’s shirt but quickly left when it became clear that he is an uber douche. Tyler is a total sociopath, you guys. That is why he didn’t give a damn about Matt or Elena last ep. He is interested in anyone who makes him feel special.

  15. Spoiler

there are rumors that Sheila and Pearl will both be in the big ghost episode 3×7. So that’s a good thing I guess I just wish I had a better understanding of what is going on with the ghost thing by now. Hopefully this episode will shed some light on it. Is Jeremy even in this episode the ghost thing did start with him.

  16. OMG! I am legit excited rn. I am not even joking. Pearl *and* Grams. So first Grams will appear and then Bonnie’s mom will appear a couple of eps later. So excited, I am shaking rn.

  17. Just watched the webclip, my confusion is profound:

    1) In what way are Elena, Caroline, and Bonnie still capable of being on the cheer squad. Even if we were meant to assume that they passed the previous year and were meant to ignore how often they weren’t in school last year, they were textually attending school less last year. What’s up?

    2) Didn’t Elena quit cheerleading in s1? Why is Elena even in school?

    3) Tyler was dropped on his head at some point and landed in a douche puddle. Why is he so excited? Why is he happy? Can a hybrid even turn off their emotions? Can an Original? Why is this show the way it is? Rebecca stood by while you were killed last week, Tyler. What is your damage? I mean, Tyler is a douche and I’d expect him to be all “I’m so awesome” about this but 1) he did fuck all except die and then choose to not die again, so maybe he could tone down the arrogance, 2) He does realize that, at this point, he’s got no idea why Klaus wants him to be a hybrid, and 3) Klaus has killed and tried to kill several of his friends. I don’t get it.

    4) Forwood Fodder, of course.

    5) Um, I’m a bit disappointed by Caroline’s “vampire etiquette” mess because that isn’t why she should be worried, especially since there’s no reason that Tyler wouldn’t eat. I was expecting that stain to be barbecue sauce or something. Also, Caroline is compelling other students at every turn if they even look at someone she’s interested in. She should maybe take a step back.

    6) Hilarious that during the blood!arc, Stefan managed to get no stains on his clothes (despite the whole blacking out cop out they’re doing now) and Tyler can’t even manage to avoid it. Did he spray it into his mouth or something?

    • Oh my God, I hope they’re not saying Elena’s back on the squad. She better just be tagging along. Did the writers forget that that’s not her anymore. If Elena’s a cheerleader, then it’ll be official that they’re trying to recapture the glory of season 1. Even though Elena wasn’t a cheerleader in season 1.

That’s what I’m not getting about Tyler. Where is his brain? There’s being excited and there’s ignoring who caused this change in him. Did he forget the abject fear he felt while Klaus was holding him?

      I agree about Caroline.

      • Did he forget the abject fear he felt while Klaus was holding him?

Did he forget that Klaus killed him? The writers haven’t established the same connection between maker and made on this show that other vampire mythologies do, so I’m wondering why Tyler already feels so chummy when this has never happened before on the show (Damon’s love for Katherine was intensified, but it certainly hasn’t made him loyal. She hasn’t used it against him. Stefan’s completely uninterested. Caroline was afraid of Katherine. Anna’s vampire guy was grateful and also a puppet, Vicki was dependent, etc.). So I don’t get it.

  18. At least the Stelena grossness was mostly about the blatant (and yeah, the show does it too but whatever) shipping going on in that article and not like actual spoilers.

And press releases need to start being honest. We’re never going to see Stefan go full-on Ripper.

  19. @Cheerleader-Reunion: Don´t know if you saw it but there was a BTS-Video (http://video.aol.com/video/cw-vampire-diaries-bts-with-the-cast/3860084404) of this episode.
We only see Candice, Michael and (I think) Nina talking.
It doesn´t seem like Elena is training with the other girls … I only saw Candice and Claire (so it is most likely true, that Rebekah wants to get Carolines status in the cheerleader group).
I looked very hard but I couldn´t find Bonnie/Kat … either the excluded her from that scene because it is only supposed to be Rebekah/Tyler/Caroline and Elena/Stefan on the field or she did quit cheerleading. But she could also skip the session because she has to help Matt (because I didn´t see Zach and he was a member of the football team, right?).

But if Bonnie isn´t there I ask myself when do we see Bonnie and Stefan interact the first time. I want to see her reaction … and please let it be a burning one (it will never happen). We didn´t see anything on her opinion about that crap with and around Stefan. I thought she would be involved in that storyline too.

And another spoiler in regards to Mikael http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/10/the-vampire-diaries-mikael-meet-sebastian-roches-vampire-who-hunts-vampires.html
Carina also thinks that it could be Jeremy who will donate the blood for Mikael.
And of course she draws a line between Elena´s birth and Mikael´s entombment. I don´t want it to revolve around Elena again … but it will most likely be that way.

    • I really hope Elena’s just running to get in shape for her training.

I’m trying to think of reason why Bonnie would still want to be a cheerleader especially with everything that’s supposed to be going on, and I can’t think of one.

We didn´t see anything on her opinion about that crap with and around Stefan.

We haven’t seen any of their opinions.

      • I’m trying to think of reason why Bonnie would still want to be a cheerleader especially with everything that’s supposed to be going on, and I can’t think of one.

        Caroline

        • I have reading comprehension issues. I thought you meant cheerleading training. I guess I am trying to block the other “training” out of my mind.

          • Lol. Yeah, I was talking about her training to become….whatever. You would thing getting killed would have been the catalyst for her to start learning to defend herself, but nope. I wonder why she’s doing this. To protect herself from Stefan? Klaus? You can never say you know for sure when it comes to Elena. Especially if she’s doing something sensible.

After Alaric told her she could do this on her own, instead of trying going trekking through the forest, she should’ve started training (and maybe forced Jeremy to join her) to protect herself. But why would she do that when she has Damon and Alaric. Remember how she didn’t bring any weapons to a werewolf hunt?

            • You would thing getting killed would have been the catalyst for her to start learning to defend herself, but nope.

Remember last year when she was getting kidnapped at every turn? Yup. She’s not the sharpest bulb in the box. As often as Elena goes Action!Elena, she’s very dependent on the dudes (who even cares which ones) popping in to save her.

              • Look, she is going to SAVE Stefan. OK? It is all about Stefan and getting him back. Lulz

Oh God, I actually wished for Elena to do some of the saving last season. Little did I know that it would be THIS moronic. I guess I should be careful what I wish for.

                • Lol. I can’t wait to hear her reasoning. Is she planning on fighting Stefan, or Klaus, or Rebekah in hand to hand combat? Did coming in at the tail end of Caroline’s fight with Damon inspire her?

I love how quickly she forgot she didn’t want Damon to be what people think he is. Once again he hasn’t actually done anything that would tell her he’s changing or has changed, but she’s over it/has forgiven him. She wanted to know where he was when she needed him. *Sigh.*

    • It doesn´t seem like Elena is training with the other girls

I really hope that the shots of Elena working out are about her getting back in shape for cheerleading. I would like it if Elena had a goal outside the Salvatores even if it didn’t make much sense.

But if Bonnie isn´t there I ask myself when do we see Bonnie and Stefan interact the first time. I want to see her reaction … and please let it be a burning one (it will never happen).

I doubt that she would attack him. Rebekah is around and quite fond of Stefan. I would rather see Bonnie working really hard at a way to get rid of Klaus and Rebekah while being antagonistic towards the Salvatores.

  20. Does anyone have a clue what KW and JP are bitching about on their Twitter accounts? Is there another spoiler? Or is it the Grams and Pearl spoiler they are pissed about?

    • It’s probably the Grams and Pearl spoiler it’s the only one that I know that would be a big deal. We already knew about Lexi,Mason and Fredrick. I think they were trying to keep Grams and Pearl a secret, I mean that’s hard to do seeing as they are played by the biggest stars this show has ever had in Jasmine Guy and Kelly Hu people will notice them around unlike Malese and Kayla who are friends with the cast.
I love how KW said about the person who wrote the spoiler do you want to tell people there’s no santa claus, He doesn’t know his show isn’t that good and if it hadn’t been for some of these spoilers lately I don’t know if I was going to continue watching the show he should be thankful.

      • If they would stop being so involved with the Fandom (boatload of interviews, Twitter, that damn preview thing that JP does, interviews after an episode airs, interviews before an episode airs), I think it would be easier for them to contain spoilers like this.

        • They are way too involved in fandom and promotions for the show. I know more about what they’re thinking-which tends not to jive with what’s actually going on in the show-than I do anything else. They are always talking and sometimes they have the actors talking and it’s annoying. It leaves little room for surprise and since they don’t write the show in order to build anticipation for anything then they should be less upset when things like this happen. Would it have been a nice surprise surely, but how many people would have given up before then?

      • He doesn’t know his show isn’t that good and if it hadn’t been for some of these spoilers lately I don’t know if I was going to continue watching the show he should be thankful.

Ikr! I think the whole network thinks this show is excellent because it has the best ratings (way to keep your standards low, CW). I stumbled on an interview of the TSC showrunners and they said that they killed off a major character because that is the sort of thing KW would do. Ringer did the same thing recently. Plus, I get an overall TVD vibe of “shocks” and hollow/vacant/sociopathic people from it. I quit the show because of that. I don’t want to get hooked on another crappy CW show.

        • I stumbled on an interview of the TSC showrunners and they said that they killed off a major character because that is the sort of thing KW would do.

Ew nooooo!!!! They shouldn’t look at KW for guidance!!!! Can you find this interview and e-mail it to me? I heard on tumblr that they had been planning on doing that from the start. I don’t care if KW is a producer, I do not want him inspiring these people.

You quit Ringer? I’m loving it. Haven’t watched the latest episode yet though.

Also? The last major character KW killed where it wasn’t a gimmick was Grams. So….

          • I was getting Vicki parallels from that TSC interview as well as from Gemma’s (sp?) death in Ringer – Killing a main character to show us that NO ONE is safe. Screw this. I *want* to get to know the main characters for a longer period of time. I don’t want them sacrificed for “shock” value. The killed off Shiv’s only friend this soon?

  21. Did you get my e-mail, Alta? Google just suspended my e-mail address. I think it is because I used it on a secure browser (for anonymity) a couple of times without thinking and then used it on my regular browser too. They are asking for my contact info which I don’t want to give so I am going to switch to a diff e-mail address.

  22. In which I blather on for a bit about how the show could have made me appreciate this upcoming Michael storyline:

    1. If Michael was Michaela or Gabriella, to keep with the angel theme. & if she was a witch.

    2. It would have been smarter to introduce Michael as someone Klaus should be afraid of instead of someone he is already afraid of because it backfires against Klaus being a formidable villain.

    3. If they’d made Klaus and Stefan villains instead of woobies. That would involve, in my opinion, cloaking all of Stefan’s horrible by not having him show up for the first four or five episodes. Meanwhile, Klaus is causing trouble, trying and failing, in different ways, to create hybrids. All of this could happen off-screen. Damon could be tracking Stefan’s kills and Bonnie could be tracking both Stefan and Klaus’s kills. How much more effective would it be to have Bonnie reading up, with Caroline and Jeremy, about entire campsites turning up dead, having bled out? Our rabid deformed dogs terrorizing towns and having to be put down? We could bring Tyler into this by having him have a reaction to other werewolves dying. Also, Klaus wouldn’t only be attacking werewolves, but other vampires and humans. He’s trying to figure out how to turn people, so let him test it out on everyone. Then do the whole prank night scenario, maybe have Caroline be less enthusiastic because she can’t get out of it but she wants to because her father, having recently found out she was a vampire (without the whole torture scenario) no longer wants to be there for her, Bonnie/Caroline interaction instead, so on and so forth. Stefan shows up. His loyalties have obviously shifted, though he does have moments when you wonder if he’s over Elena (or maybe he doesn’t I don’t care). Klaus needs Elena to die. He decides to compel Damon to do it or Caroline or Jeremy or whoever. Stefan and Rebekah watch over Tyler. So on and so forth. Stefan pops up at the end and makes his quips about Delena. Most everything goes down in the same way.

Klaus leaves town to do whatever. Stefan and Rebecca create their own havoc but are hampered in their efforts by Bonnie and the Council who, even if they can’t kill Rebecca, can kill Stefan. Blah blah blah more trouble ensues. School stuff happens. Ghosts happen.

Then have Klaus come back and introduce Michael by having a bunch of vampires turn up dead. There has to be a way to figure out that a dead body was already dead before it was dead, you know?

This starts getting everyone worried, except for maybe Bill or Alaric, who says “it looks like someone is doing us a favor” and Liz or Bonnie are concerned about the why.

Then introduce Michael. Make him someone everyone’s afraid of because he doesn’t care about humans or vampires or whatever. Let’s say he hunts vampires, not to better the world, but for sport.

At that point, a team-up, while preposterous, would at least be reasonable, and then you could work out double crosses within the team-up. Bonnie is still working towards killing Klaus and Stefan. Klaus is still working towards making hybrids. etc. etc. so on and so on. So while it may be two against one, there’s conflict within the “enemy of my enemy is my friend even if they are an enemy” deal.

I don’t know. This got rambly because I just remembered that I have a paper to finish.

    • I love this!

      1) Clearly Michael could not be a woman because why would the biggest, baddest man be afraid of a woman, amirite?

      2) I agree that Klaus’ fear of Michael is something we should have seen develop. Make it so that Klaus is all about his goal and is confident about being the most powerful (and show it), but then here comes this (woman) who is not a Hybrid, but is increasingly making him lock his doors.

      3) I agree whole-heartedly. Especially about your Caroline scenario. Entire camp sites turning up dead sounds so creepy. And research party between Bonnie/Caroline/Jeremy! This show sucks because no one ever stays up late doing research. Do I even need to bring up how my other shows did that at least once?

though he does have moments when you wonder if he’s over Elena (or maybe he doesn’t I don’t care).

      Lol!

      • The degree that I don’t care about Stelena maybe trump my Delena/Forwood hate. I can muster up energy for Delena and Forwood, at least.

I was thinking, if the season had gone this way, then the trailer for season three could have shown Bonnie, Jeremy, and Caroline hiking through the woods and Jeremy would go, “How much further?” and Caroline would make a joke about how he drew the map and Jeremy would come back with something about how Tyler had just said something about “Up in the mountains” and Bonnie would tell them both to be quiet, because she can sense that they’re getting closer. It’s all very jovial and quiet until they come across some crime scene tape and we see that it spans across a lot of trees and maybe some of the trees have been cracked and there’s blood on them or on the leaves. There would also be other people up there laying out flowers and candles and maybe someone would come up to them and say something like “who did you lose?”

And the camera would cut away from them to a Damon and Elena scene (with possible Alaric) where they’re at a house and Alaric asks Elena, “Are you sure you want to do this?” And she does that steely Elena look that she has and walks in ahead of them and as they come into the house after her, maybe she immediately starts walking back out, having seen what Stefan’s done and Alaric follows her back out (because he’s seen this already. which is what made Damon’s lip service in the premiere kinda weird) as Damon, unseen, sets the house on fire. When Damon comes back out of the house he can say something Damon-esque like, “Are you going to kiss his forehead too?”

The Damon/Alaric/Elena scene would be intercut with Mystic Falls scenes where Bonnie and the Council which now consists of Bonnie/Liz/Jeremy/Matt/Carol with some help from Caroline and Tyler but understandably, not with them as members are discussing the Klaus problem. Bonnie would obviously be the one in charge and maybe Liz and/or Carol would talk about getting family records from the Fells or looking into Isobel’s research and Matt would be working with Caroline (they would have come around to a place where they are friends since there was no need for drama between them in the premiere) to resist compulsion and having his talks with Jeremy about the ghosts situation. Tyler would be having a conversation with his mom about something.

There would be scenes with Klaus either contacting witches, who we are meant to assume are either using the balance for bad things and/or aren’t on his side. He’s getting help and he’s getting turned away. Then at the end of it (how many episodes are shot by the time an episode premieres? 4? 5? let’s say five) give the first hint of Stefan but make it fake out, so we’re wondering which side he’s on.

I was actually thinking of how, in this scenario of the season that I’ve set up in my mind, with all these groups working together and not working together, that the prank episode could have actually been amazing if the entire thing, with Stefan being compelled, had been a fake out. So Klaus would set up the entire situation to make it look like he was punishing Stefan for not telling him about Elena and then Elena could have talked Stefan out of killing her only to discover that he was in on it all along. That Klaus’s intention was to find out whether or not he had to kill her or not and that Stefan was just messing with her and then having that be what makes her let go of him entirely, where previously she was under the impression that he needed to be stopped so he could be saved, now she understands that he simply needs to be stopped.

And then Michaela could turn up and show them that they have never even seen a bad guy let alone a big bad.

        • So Klaus would set up the entire situation to make it look like he was punishing Stefan for not telling him about Elena and then Elena could have talked Stefan out of killing her only to discover that he was in on it all along. Oh God! This would have been magnificent.

        • This would have been absolutely perfect, especially Bonnie/Jeremy/Caroline hiking in the woods. Why aren’t you writing this show?

Your idea for the prank made me realize something. I can’t believe this show didn’t have an actual prank by either Klaus or Stefan on these kids. The prank was just some half-finished crap by the high school students. Are they kidding? They can’t make an idea work more than one way, can they? BTVS so would have done it.

          • Why aren’t you writing this show?

Because the show would probably be more about friendships than ships and the CW can’t have that.

I can’t believe this show didn’t have an actual prank by either Klaus or Stefan on these kids.

YES! I was thinking along those lines when I thought up Klaus creating this semi-elaborate situation by which to test Stefan or hurt Elena. The summary for the episode is all about prank night and yet there were no pranks, no surprises, or you thought one thing and now here’s what’s really up. Nope. A bunch of kids pulling a lame senior prank and getting out of dodge when someone who looks younger than the oldest senior shows up.

I’m actually surprised that the show didn’t have Klaus or Stefan foiled by one of the unfinished pranks that the students had laid out. Stefan suddenly falls down and is attacked by mouse traps or something.

BTVS so would have done it.

Considering all my issues with BTVS, The Vampire Diaries makes me miss a lot.

            • Or maybe Klaus goes to take a drink from the fountain only for his hand to touch the honey and while he’s distracted with wiping it, someone comes from behind and snaps his neck.

              • Why can’t I stop laughing at the image of Klaus wiping his hand on his shirt all disgruntled and disgusted with the state of the school? And then oops! There goes his neck.

So many beautiful images at once.

    • 1. A witch would make sense since the show told us that witches are the ones who hurt Klaus in the first place and another witch (Bonnie) almost killed him a few months ago. Plus, they keep telling us that Klaus can’t die by regular (physical) means. Plus, they told us that only witches can kill all supernatural beings. I guess they will go back on that because this is the VAMPIRE Diaries, y’all. Also, Duh, it has to be a dude. It is not like this show targets young women or anything. Why not make all the super powerful characters men and all the female characters helpless against them?

      2. Yes! It would have been awesome if Klaus thought that he had achieved the impossible for a while – invincibility- and then got hit in the face with the fact that there is no such thing. It would be sort of like how Damon worked so hard to save Katherine from the tomb in season one. He thought he could live happily ever after with her only to find that there is no such thing as happily ever after.

      3. I don’t know if Stefan could have escaped woobification entirely. He is a lead. He is also the love interest of another lead and the third lead’s brother. Plus, it has been established for 2 seasons that he cares about them deeply in his own way. However, there is no excuse for Klaus. If they were going to do this, they should have done this waaay later.

This would be awesome and would require that the characters be interested in things outside of themselves. This is one of the things that bother me about the characters. What exactly do they care about? Other than their latest love interest, I mean. Or fighting something dangerous that is directly attacking them. Plus, this would have meant that Stefan’s storyline wasn’t cut off from most of the other characters for the first 4 eps. It would also have been way better than the Delena Save Stefan missions that made zero sense.

Stefan shows up. His loyalties have obviously shifted, though he does have moments when you wonder if he’s over Elena (or maybe he doesn’t I don’t care).

I don’t think I would buy Stefan being over Elena with his switch turned on (or even off for that matter. He is OBSESSED) but I would have liked it better if he is loyalties were split and he *wanted* to hang out with Klaus after a while. He doesn’t even have to be loyal to Klaus. He could have just wanted to keep killing and forgetting. Maybe feel like he is too far gone to ever come back?? Remember how he wanted to kill himself during the blood arc because he couldn’t face Elena? Maybe this time, instead being suicidal, he gets lost in his homicidal rampages. Idk. I am thinking about what is possible for this show to do. I am not sure that they would ever paint Stefan as completely anti-Elena/villain.

I love everything else but double-crosses and alliances are too ambitious for this show.

      • I know Stefan wouldn’t have escaped woobification entirely, but in a world where this show is better than it is I long for the idea of this Stefan!arc turning that woobification on it’s head. Yes, Damon and Elena want to count on Stefan’s love for them, but he won’t let them count on it (or at the very least he questions it as a justification…his reactions during prank night and before he killed Andie spring to mind. Don’t try to save him. He’s not worth saving. He maybe even doesn’t want to be saved.). Both out of a genuine desire to hurt them and out of some cruelly guided form of affection.

So I wouldn’t need for Stefan to be over Elena, but I would want for it to stop being the first thing about him. Maybe, in a way, by accepting his sociopathic self, he’s able to let go of the idea of needing her (even if he still loves her), so he’s not anti-Elena so much as no longer guided by his love for her. Basically, I want the version of the show where Stelena isn’t so much a part of who Stefan and Elena are.

I love everything else but double-crosses and alliances are too ambitious for this show.

Yeah. Probably. It makes me sad.

  23. Got any Bonnie scoop on The Vampire Diaries? I feel like we’ve barely seen her this season. — Jessica
NATALIE: She may want to make herself even scarcer. Why? Her absentee mom is coming to town! And from what we understand, Abby Bennett is quite a handful. Bonnie definitely gets her fiery determination from her mother. But it’ll be a fruitful visit, backstory-wise. We’ll finally learn what led Abby to abandon her daughter.

    • I really hope this is not Isobel 2.0 – random cryptic warnings and threats followed by suicide. I hope they handle the Bonnie/Abby relationship better than that and that Abby is not under Mikael’s control.

    • If they go the Isobel route on this, I will scream. This description seems to conflict with the casting description though. There was the suggestion that she left to protect Bonnie, from what we don’t know, but I imagine if she’s a “handful” it might have to do with why she left and not what she’s going to bring to Bonnie’s life.

    • I’m going to make an announcement on the podcast, but for the sake of the people who don’t post but read these discussions, I need you to e-mail me spoilers that are that far ahead. What I mean is that some people may not mind reading spoilers for episode 6 since it’s this week/tomorrow, but they might not want to know anything farther than that.
