I can barely think right now because Caroline’s FATHER came in at the end.

While I’m busy hating everyone…

  1. At this rate I’m not going to have any teeth left from grinding them down into little bloody stumps.

And HRG has a whole other CARE-BEAR!

  2. I’m not sure I’m going to make it through the entire season, once the ghost-plot finishes itself out. There are several good storylines here (except for maybe Delena) and the writers are basically going back and editing out everything that would allow them to be excellent. Again, except for Jeremy and Matt, which is hindered by Bonnie not being around at all.

    • I was just now thinking about Bonnie coming back and how that will heavily inform whether or not I will quit this show. I can’t have her wanting to save Stefan, Olu. I can’t, and the ignoring her while building Caroline’s family, giving her more to work with (by victimizing her, but).

      • I know what you mean. They victimize Caroline a lot, but she’s got a family and the problems that come with that family and she gets stories all the time and we still haven’t met Bonnie’s father and have only a small amount of information about her mother. I don’t know what I’ll do if they have Bonnie wanting to save Stefan. There really just needs to be…the writers need to understand that things like this have an end and since they don’t seem willing to leave Stefan in this dark place (not even long enough for him to enjoy it) then they need to end him and they cannot have Bonnie play a part in saving him because that would be a complete disservice to both, but especially her character.

  3. LOL. Why is there no “all of the above” or “Damon pushing the love of his life off a small cliff” option?

I actually saw Klaus’ tears coming. I was like, woobie is ~lonely and just wants a family in TWOP

I can only watch this show in an ironic way now.

Man, the ring conversation between Elena and Alaric went on FOREVER. This should have been on the list of options too.

I had to mute the last Delena scene after she said something like “because I didn’t want to see you get hurt” so I picked that.

    • I was so pissed at Caroline’s dad being introduced that I could barely think up the options. And also I didn’t see Damon push Elena because I was typing. Lol. I heard he scream, looked up, and he was there.

      • I was in AWE of how bad this ep was to even think of getting mad at that.

Some of the many many questions that went through my head while watching this ep

Elena is trying to save Stefan’s ~humanity and yet she is ok with Damon having a “compelled” gf. Are they seriously expecting me to believe in Elena’s humanity/goodness?

What is Stefan being “saved” from?

People are still looking to “save” Stefan with zero idea on how to kill Klaus? Wow

“Damon stop being such a cave man”? What? I guess violence against women is sexy.

What happened to Paul Wesley’s acting ability?

How do a bunch of random werewolves know about the Hybrid? I thought Jules and her pack didn’t know the truth about the sun and moon curse. Plus, Klaus was supposed to be so secretive before he broke the curse. Am I to assume that Klaus has been telling EVERYONE since he broke the curse?

How can a relatively new werewolf like Tyler have the location of all the werewolf camps? He made it sound like there were many or at least a handful of camps. That is so dumb. For a secretive group, they are not very good at being secretive. How can every single werewolf know about the location of every single pack?

Tyler feels bad about biting Damon and Stefan being stuck with Klaus? What? Does he know that they tortured and killed his uncle? I understand not being mad or thinking that they are even now but actively helping?? Why does he feel like he owes them? Why not help just for the sake of helping Elena?

Why didn’t Tyler show his mom his wolf eyes(/yellow eyes) and the Mason transformation video instead of terrifying her all night? Or how about showing her his strength/speed while in human form?

Tyler has a cheap slider phone? What?

OMG! So much made NO SENSE.

The best of the ep was Matt/Jeremy and Matt. Matt has suddenly become the best character in this show.

        • What happened to Paul Wesley’s acting ability?

He’s not exactly wowing, and the thing is that they’re not really giving him anything to work with. I feel like Klaus is getting more lines than he is.

People are still looking to “save” Stefan with zero idea on how to kill Klaus? Wow

All Elena could talk about was “finding” Stefan and getting back before the full moon. Apparently Klaus ceased to exist.

How do a bunch of random werewolves know about the Hybrid?

THIS! Remember what I said about the witch covens? So what’s going? If people know about Klaus, then why aren’t some trying to kill him?

How can a relatively new werewolf like Tyler have the location of all the werewolf camps?

Because the plot calls for it. Better question, why did Tyler not think twice about the fact that more of his kind were about to die?

Why didn’t Tyler show his mom his wolf eyes(/yellow eyes) and the Mason transformation video instead of terrifying her all night? Or how about showing her his strength/speed while in human form?

Because he’s an ass major. I can just imagine Mason slapping him upside the head for that.

          • Better question, why did Tyler not think twice about the fact that more of his kind were about to die?

Wow. No one cares about anything when they come near Damon/Elena/Stefan. Jules was killed by Klaus. Why didn’t they have Tyler say that he wants to help because he wants to know what is going on with Klaus too? Every character is just some plot device with no motivations/goals of their own when they come near the main trio

The weirdest part is that Klaus knew that Tyler was in Mystic Falls and yet he spent two months looking for another werewolf to give him the location of packs.

            • HAHA and Tyler knows where every pack is. Klaus is a moron. Elena found out where werewolves are in one conversation and Klaus has been searching all summer.

The writers don’t know what they are doing. They undermine they’re own characters and they’re own writing.

              • I didn’t even think about the fact that it took Elena an episode to figure out what Klaus has spent the last two months doing. Also when would Tyler have found out about all of these pack locations? He wasn’t gone from Mystic Falls long enough to even transform.

            • The weirdest part is that Klaus knew that Tyler was in Mystic Falls and yet he spent two months looking for another werewolf to give him the location of packs.

Oh my Goooood! Klaus/this show is so stupid because this is so true! I feel like laughing. Geez.

              • I just thought of something else. IIRC (and it is possible I don’t), Carol told Bill that she has been putting “it” together for months. By that she meant the town’s vampire problem, right? So Caroline is the only vampire she found? This is like how Matt toyed with Caroline but never went after the Salvatores. Carol suspects there are vampires in town but the only one she captures is Caroline. Even though, Caroline has done the least amount of damage of the three vampires living in town. Caroline Forbes = The Salvatores’ Scapegoat

Did you guys notice it was Candice who said “Previously on the Vampire Diaries” in this ep? I thought it was usually Nina, Paul or Ian.

People in the forums are wondering who Klaus meant when he said something like “I did everything I was told to do”. Obviously a witch. Right?

Is it me or did they change Elena this episode? She seems different. Almost like a different character.

                • I think Carol was only referring to Caroline. I’m not too sure though.

I didn’t notice, but I know she’s said it before. Especially when her arc was going on in season 2.

Yep. Which reminds me of Damon having to go back to Bree to double check back in season 1.

I didn’t even notice. How do you think she was different?

                  • Hmmm. I can’t quiet put a finger on it. I guess I am not used to her actually discussing her thoughts/feelings this much. It looked like she was more self-aware when it came to Damon. I guess everything was more obvious. Like how stupid she is. Last season, we could dismiss it a little bit because her options were limited. Also, she is just more blunt about the fact that she just does not give a damn about anyone outside her group. All the things that people speculated about her were super clear in this ep. It was very clear that she is kinda of a horrible person. Idk. I will have to think about it some more.

OMG! While I was typing the above, I just remembered that Caroline’s dad is gay. Do you think they were being ~edgy by having the gay parent be the one who can’t accept his vampire daughter?

I am thinking waaay too much about this show.

                    • I see what you mean. Especially about the Damon thing. Her protest was practically non-existent.

I’m actually wondering if there’ll be gay undertones. Especially with Bill wanting to “fix” Caroline. Will KW be able to help himself?

                  • Yeah, I know Carol was only referring to Caroline. I was talking about the fact that the writers made the choice to only have her suspect Caroline and no one else. There *are* other vampires in town. I suppose it makes sense since Caroline has been hanging around her son for a while.

                    • Ooooh, I get it and I completely agree. It would also make sense for her to suspect Damon though since he’s the leader of the Council. And Tyler! So she notices there was something weird about Caroline, but not Tyler acting weird during certain days of the month?

          • Because the plot calls for it. Better question, why did Tyler not think twice about the fact that more of his kind were about to die?

It would seem that even though witches have covens and wolves have packs there is no loyalty to their own kind when it comes to helping the Salvatore’s.

Because he’s an ass major. I can just imagine Mason slapping him upside the head for that.\
            now I want this!

    • I actually saw Klaus’ tears coming. I was like, woobie is ~lonely and just wants a family in TWOP

and he just put his real family on ice. smh this show makes me want to real books. non vampire books

      • All of this would work better if they told us that his werewolf side being suppressed was causing him psychic pain all this time. Like it was eating him up inside. I mean, he basically was forced to pass for something he is not his whole life. And his family was probably opposed to him finding some relief from that and wanted him to continue living as something he is not while still resenting him for his latent werewolf side. Maybe as a bi-species(/bi-racial. A gay/bi coming out metaphor could probably fit here as well.) person he was never fully accepted by the werewolves or the vampires so he has been lonely all his life.

  4. I couldn’t vote because there wasn’t a vote for “all of the above”

Caroline’s dad showing up just about riped my heart out.

I wish I wasn’t a Bonnie Bennett fan this show would be easier to take.

  5. What do you guys think is happening here? Are the writers idiots or simply not that smart? They picked a concept that is just too complicated for them?? They hate writing this genre or working at the CW and resent the viewers?? The CW can’t attract decent writers??

    • I choose “The concept is too complicated for them.” I feel like the actors are just collecting their paychecks at the moment. Especially Elena. Damon and Stefan. The characters with a hint of heart at this point in time are Jeremy/Matt and they’re barely on. And Bonnie just because all I have of her so far is what I saw last season. *Sigh*.

  6. Werewolves are hard to come by, right? It took Klaus two months to find one pack. So he decided to try an unproven process on *all* the werewolves he found at once?? He didn’t even wait to see if it worked on Ray first. Wow. I guess he was too impatient to wait until the next full moon but now he has no leads for more werewolves.

        • Greta had to be the brains cause clearly Klaus isn’t.

How is he still alive I feel like he isn’t smart enough to survive all these years or to have killed a whole family of originals.

Now I think the guy from supernatural is going to be Klaus’s father.

          • I def think that Maddox and Greta were the brains. Remember when Alaric!Klaus was afraid of Bonnie? It was Maddox who came up with a plan and talked Alaric!Klaus into doing it.

            • You are right! probably because Klaus chooses to remain ignorant about witches/magical people.

How has he lasted this long? How is he still around. How is it that Witches/Warlocks don’t rule everything? Or maybe they do, but since they are witches/warlocks it’s all balanced.

  7. Basically all of the above. I ended up voting for option c) the last Delena scene. Ugh, even in an all-around terrible episode it continues to be the worst. Plus, the eye-acting!!!

Elena-Alaric-Damon have reached a new level of dumbness. Do they even remember that Klaus still exists? They don’t even mention him anymore.

Is anyone else scared that Klaus’ plan (ugh, it’s also the worst) isn’t working because Elena isn’t dead? And that we have to wade through another ‘everybody tries to save Elena’ SL?

    • Oh, I thought it was obvious that Klaus’ plan is not working because Elena is not dead. There is another option? Serious question. I made that assumption because last season taught me that all roads lead to Elena.

      • I’m just hoping that there is another option. If it’s going to be S2 all over again with Klaus trying to sacrifice Elena, then count me out. No, just no.

          • Yeah, basically.

Btw, what was the point storytelling-wise in having Stefan kill Andie? Last ep, I thought it was to have Damon give up on Stefan (although that didn’t make any sense in the first place), but that didn’t last for 1 ep. Basically, it was totally irrelevant. Poor Andie.

    • I’m trying to remember the point of them going into the woods, and I can’t remember. It was that stupid.

I think it is because Elena’s still alive, but I have a question for Klaus on the podcast. Maybe it’ll be answered next episode.

Geez, I hope you’re wrong about the saving Elena business. Imagine everyone trying to save her while she tries to save Stefan.

  8. IIRC, Damon and Elena said that Stefan is not “gone” yet in this ep. I am trying to think this through. Are they saying that Stefan is still himself and able to know right from wrong? But he is still murdering people. How does any of this prove that he can be saved? OMG! I just realized something. Bonnie will come back in 1-2 eps and be like, “WTF?!! We need to save *other* people *from* Stefan.” When that happens, she is going to look crazy because the show has been framing it the other way around for so long – Stefan needs to be saved from murdering people. Not that other people need to be saved from being murdered by Stefan. All of fandom will be like, Bonnie is a heartless bitch.

    • Yeah, they’re saying he still has “humanity” and all they need as proof apparently is him not killing the both of them. As long as he doesn’t harm them, then he can still be saved. Rme.

Lord, I really hope that that is what Bonnie comes in saying and not that she’s listening to Elena be excited that Stefan can be saved. Ugh.

      • I would think that ripping people apart when you still have “humanity” is worse than doing that when you are out of your mind or don’t have “humanity”. It would mean that you are making deliberate choices to inflict pain and suffering despite the fact that you have empathy/a conscience. I mean, if you are doing something horrible because you don’t have the ability to know it is wrong, maybe you can be made to understand it is wrong or somehow given the ability to know it is wrong. However, if you are doing something horrible *and* you know perfectly well it is horrible… Wait. Am I crazy or is the show crazy? They are acting like Stefan has gone on some Ripper bender but he hasn’t. They are acting like he lost a part of himself but he seems very clear headed. He is just Klaus’ manservant. He is Maddox’s replacement. I don’t see that Stefan needs to be saved from himself. He needs to be saved from Klaus. Right?

I think, for this show, “humanity”=romantic/familial love and loyalty. Therefore, as long as a person has that, he/she has “humanity”. I wonder if that is why they think Damon is redeemed now. He proved his loyalty to the group late last season by not killing Matt and Tyler when he had the chance. Plus, he saved Caroline and Tyler. It is like they are a gang or the Mafia or something along those lines. They stick together and defend against outside threats. People are only bad when they are hurting other members of the gang in a big way.

        idk, just random thoughts

And SMH at people on TWOP saying that it is ok for the show to make Caroline’s dad not gay. Apparently, he is too intense/badass to be gay. I need to stop looking at that site.

        • The only way Stefan can be “saved”, in my mind, is if he realizes the deal he made is horrible. If he stops killing people for Klaus knowing that Klaus will kill Delena. Is that why Elena was randomly in the woods with no plan on how to deal with Klaus? The point was to “save” Stefan from killing people and not to actually preserve any of their lives??

        • I think, for this show, “humanity”=romantic/familial love and loyalty. Therefore, as long as a person has that, he/she has “humanity”. I wonder if that is why they think Damon is redeemed now.

          Yes, I think that’s it.

I don’t see that Stefan needs to be saved from himself. He needs to be saved from Klaus. Right?

The way I see it: The audience needs to be saved from Klaus. (Sorry, couldn’t resist.)

        • Stefan really is Maddox’s replacement!

It is like they are a gang or the Mafia or something along those lines. They stick together and defend against outside threats. People are only bad when they are hurting other members of the gang in a big way.

My Fandom friend talked about this possible explanation of the shoe’s morality, but it falls apart. I think the only group that can be applied to is the threesome. Because Damon/Stefan/Elena didn’t care what was happening to Bonnie last season, Damon’s already killed Jeremy and caused his death a second time, Damon wanted to kill Tyler, etc. Damon has even hurt Elena multiple times. The three stick together. Elena has no loyalty to Jeremy. Plus the group/pack mentality doesn’t gel with the show/producers saying “Elena’s probably the most compassionate person in Mystic Falls.”

They don’t care about saving Stefan from killing people. They’ve never once talked about the threat Stefan poses to other people. I have no idea what they even mean when they talk about Stefan being lost. Lost to what? They just want to get him away from Klaus. It’s very stupid.

  9. Why would a werewolf bring a non-werewolf friend/gf/bf to a full-moon werewolf gathering? Is the show trying to tell us that werewolves eventually learn to control themselves in werewolf form? But Jules ripped apart those campers in season two. That was deliberate?? She was Ripper!werewolf??

    • The non-werewolf guy was there because the plot required it. That’s the only reason.

The episode was written by the same writers who penned “As I Lay Dying” – which is not surprising, I think: These two episodes are actually *very* similar in terms of writing. It’s the same type of lazy writing (e.g. characters acting even dumber than usual, next to no focus on the motivations of the characters, more plot contrivances than usual).

      • Hmmm. That would be the Smallville writers who joined the show late last season, right? Maybe that is why Elena seemed different to me. I wonder if she will eventually become Lana Lang.

        • Yes. I don’t know any of their Smallville stuff, though. But I didn’t hear good things about them … And now I can see why.

Btw, next week’s episode is written by the writer who gave us “The Sacrifice”, “Memory Lane”, and “The House Guest” in S2. Which doesn’t bode well. 😦

          • Btw, next week’s episode is written by the writer who gave us “The Sacrifice”, “Memory Lane”, and “The House Guest” in S2. Which doesn’t bode well.

Oh Lord @ The House Guest. Let’s see, they’re 2 for 1. Two are passable and one is downright horrid. I don’t know if I’m blocking anything out, but Memory Lane was alright, and The Sacrifice was good for Bonnie and Jeremy (even though the actual plot was full of contrivance). The House Guest is so damn horrible though that I’m thankful Bonnie won’t be in next week’s episode.

            • Yeah, Memory Lane was alright. I thought both “The Sacrifice” and “The House Guest” were terribly written, so for me it’s 2 terrible eps and 1 passable. Actually, the writing of these episodes reminds me a lot of “AILD” and “The Hybrid” (like you said, lots of plot contrivances, etc.) – which is funny because, iirc, this writer is also an ex-Smallville writer.

        • I think that’s an insult to Lana. I feel like Lana was more take charge than Elena. I’d rather watch Lana than Elena. Lol. When Lana tried to take charge, she actually managed to accomplish something. She had her own writing problems (and she was definitely a special snowflake), but she was bearable compared to Elena.

      • Oh my freaking God on both counts. I didn’t even think about the contrivance of the human being there.

There’s also that same sense of the characters outside of the main three not doing anything. What did Tyler really? Revealing his lycanthropy could’ve happened in the middle of the episode. You can tell the episode was botchy because they cut away right when it would’ve made sense for Tyler to tell his mom. That was a weird ass cut.

        • There’s also that same sense of the characters outside of the main three not doing anything.

Yes, that and the other characters helping the main 3 for no reason. In AILD: Bonnie helping Stefan to find a cure for Damon, Jeremy helping Damon before getting shot. In The Hybrid: Tyler helping Elena trace the pack, Alaric going along with Elena’s plan (he really drove her all the way to Tennessee, lol).

Yeah, it was obvious that the Tyler/Carol Lockwood SL wasn’t the writers’ priority. It felt off.

  10. One of the things I liked about this ep is that they didn’t spend too much time on the guest stars.
All that airtime that used to go to short-term characters went to the regulars on the show. Carol, Tyler, Matt and Jeremy all got scenes in the same ep. If this was last season, the writers would have spent time on Ray’s relationships and the pack members’ relationships with each other which would have been pointless.

I just wanted to say something positive after all my bitching

What did Bill mean by “the rest of the Council”? Who is even still in the Council? Just Liz, Carol and Damon?

    • Lol. And I guess the Fells. Who knows.

Yeah, if this was last season we would have known who Ray’s brother was. Something I liked about the episode was how little scenes Damon had. Unfortunately, Elena had too many scenes.

  11. Thanks to this ep, I finally figured out how Elena can be with Stefan forever and still have children – Obviously, Ric! He exists to do the bidding of the Salvatores+Elena. He will probably rationalize it to himself by saying he always wanted kids with Isobel. Elena is the next best thing 😛

    • Lol! I actually read an Alaric/Elena story that takes place after Jenna died. It even has the situation of Ric living with Elena and Jeremy, and Ric ends up getting Elena pregnant. It was actually really good.

      • OMG! I haven’t read any fanfic for this show. Idk why. I’ve read fanfic for other shows (BSG, BTVS, Supernatural, etc). E-mail me links to good fics, fanfic communities, etc please.

          • Lol. I had an entire folder dedicated to Bonnie fic that I had saved. Unfortunately my external hard drive got wiped, and now it’s all gone. I can do a fic rec post. You’ll find all the good (imo) Bon/Jer fics on the Beremy lj, and I’ll gather the links to the rest.

  12. My other CW shows had AWESOME premiers – Supernatural (which has been awful for years) and Nikita. Maybe the change in leadership at the CW is having an effect. Not for TVD though. *Sigh*
