Episode 36: Cry Wolf

Episode 36

In this episode, John rocks my socks!!!! Alaric’s lameness knocks me over. The producers write Jenna as a negligent guardian simply because they can’t be bothered and then have the nerve to have John call her out, I have a problem with Tyler apologizing to Elena for his part in her almost-kidnapping, and Bonnie/Jeremy kiss!

  1. The episode titles aren’t as clever as they could be.

+ Wasn’t the curse introduced when they went to visit Isobel’s office? Elena’s role in it was introduced in Rose.

+ What your describing is a better show and is actually at least two seasons worth of plot and this show is more interested in burning through plots.

+ Maybe it’s hope for odd numbered seasons? I don’t have hope, but part of me wants to.

+ I just finished rewatching the Dinner Party and Alaric is so lame. It would almost be funny if we weren’t supposed to be amused by him. His hair has been a mess since the beginning of the season. I remember someone saying he was supposed to get a haircut but that never happened.

+ Stefan is a Hardy Boy.

+ They read books, Alta! They read books! That’s how they know.

+ I’m pretty sure the actors are told one thing and they talk about what they’re told and then the writers do something completely different. Plus they’re never quite sure what’s going on anyway because the plots are weak. So they go with the simple. Except for Zach who has a lot of time on his hands to watch the show.

+ The lighting on this show is ridiculous sometimes.

+ Everyone can be liars together, Stefan.

+ Elena went to a party at Tyler’s house after being a participant in Mason’s death. Elena’s so forgiving. These kids have been friends forever. No one feels betrayed for long. Everyone is wrong except for Elena, who is capable of even more self-sacrifice than Stefan.

+ It would have made the Originals interesting instead of just some dudes.

+ No one gets on Stefan for making the exact same point that Damon makes about being willing to let everyone die if it means Elena lives. It annoyed me then and it annoys me now.

+ I don’t think what Bonnie did to Luka was right, but I do love that she did it. It’s a moral gray area that the show needs to delve into more.

+ The Bonnie/Jeremy kiss was stunning. Gorgeous and hot and sweet at the same time.

+ Everyone is going to think he’s on drugs again so maybe it will be brought up again.

+ I wish the Matt/Tyler scene had been about Tyler and Matt instead of Tyler/Caroline/Matt because they are best friends and Caroline isn’t the only one whose been skipping out/confusing Matt.

    • Wasn’t the curse introduced when they went to visit Isobel’s office? Elena’s role in it was introduced in Rose.

True. So it’s even longer. Ugh.

Maybe it’s hope for odd numbered seasons?

Wouldn’t that be something? At least we’d all be able to prepare even better.

Matt Davis tweeted that Alaric was getting a haircut and based on the premier stills, he has. But now he has facial hair. I just could not get over Alaric’s hair in that scene. I usually don’t even notice it. Lol.

They read books, Alta! They read books! That’s how they know.

Ugh. It’s amazing the amount of things that are in place in order to keep Elena alive.

Except for Zach who has a lot of time on his hands to watch the show.

      I laughed.

No one gets on Stefan for making the exact same point that Damon makes about being willing to let everyone die if it means Elena lives. It annoyed me then and it annoys me now.

It’s okay when Stefan feels this way/acts this way because he’s Elena’s boyfriend/she actually wants him. Duh. Like, if Elena actually wanted Damon, then his tunnel vision when it comes to her would be a-okay. Ugh. I had to shake my head during the scene between Tyler and Stefan when Tyler’s talking about how he doesn’t want to be like this, and Stefan goes, “I’m just trying to save Elena.”

I don’t think what Bonnie did to Luka was right, but I do love that she did it. It’s a moral gray area that the show needs to delve into more.

I don’t think what she did was right in the same sense that I don’t think Luka and Jonas tricking her into a friendship was right, but I love that she did it too.

I wish the Matt/Tyler scene had been about Tyler and Matt instead of Tyler/Caroline/Matt because they are best friends and Caroline isn’t the only one whose been skipping out/confusing Matt.

I thought about mentioning that: that I wish the scene had actually about Matt/Tyler instead of Matt/Caroline/Tyler. I wonder when these two will have a conversation that has nothing to do with the triangle.

      • I don’t think what she did was right in the same sense that I don’t think Luka and Jonas tricking her into a friendship was right, but I love that she did it too.

that’s why I liked it too. she was a witch handling witch problem and she didn’t involve the Salvatore’s. It really would have made more sense if she talked more about her experience with the Martins and got her own questions answered.

and then Jonas comes back and he’s like “GOT YO POWERS WITCH!”

  2. Congrats on the new laptop and welcome back! It sounds sharper… I hope your new computer lasts a very long time.

get ready “to lower your expectations.” lol

So Bonnie is not in the first two episodes … *side eye*

“This could have been good” is TVD fandom motto.

Alta this is called THE VAMPIRE DIARIES! Why are you talking about the werewolf and witch POV. Come on. /sarcasm

    Supernatural world war.

Oooooooh what if there was werewolf/witch? Like you’ve said in past episodes.

It can’t get any worse. I have that feeling but then I believe this show could find a lower rock bottom to hit. Remember Heroes did it. And TVD is the new heroes … 😡

Or at least Jenna would have said Andie’s name in the past … O_O this show …

Damon in season 1 seemed to respect Bonnie, Emily, Sheila, Katherine. He didn’t respect Pearl until she popped his eyes.

    HAHA “The Tea Party!”
They stopped writing for Alaric, I think. Maybe Alaric was being groomed for Klaus for weeks.

How can Alaric be friends with someone who killed him …

“But then again this is the same women who doesn’t mind hearing Elena in the throws of passion.” EW LMAO!

I’d rather John have lived as apposed to Alaric. Why is he still around?

LMAO I did say where’s her scarf! LMAO
    Michael had no idea. *chokes*

Gosh, this reminds me of when Buffy lost her powers and she got locked in a house with a crazy vampire. They do this to Elena every episode.

Wow if Elena and Stefan had a phone call like that … you know she would catch hell.

I can’t with this writing! Mason gets no justice, Tyler gets no justice and the victim, the one who lost the most has to apologize to the root reason his uncle had to die. OMG. Also. ALSO Damon is the root reason that Richard Lockwood is dead too (and Shelia). He doesn’t even get to be angry … I can’t!

Who is Caroline in the face of MANPAIN! Nothing! Even Caroline can’t stay mad.

Elena has doppelganger memories or something … idk

“She‘s 17 too STEFAN!” I love it! It sounds like a knife jab! Lol.

But Stefan only cares about Caroline and Elena …

Maybe Luka was home schooled and doesn’t really know about social situations in the real world?

    That’s naivety or arrogance.

I hear the smile in your voice again.

I think Caroline knows Bonnie well enough to know how she is around guys she likes and guys she formerly liked. Or Caroline could be commenting on the lack of available guys in mystic falls. Like “it‘s either this guy you‘ve got on the ground right now or Jeremy.”

(Alta it’s not so bad. I hope you feel better)

The smile is back in your voice. ;D I was happy Bonnie got a kiss. DAMN IT TOOK LONG ENOUGH. All she got was a peck.
You are squeeing right now … basking in he squee!

“Kinda very stupid scene. Going away music!” LOL

If that was Elena, they would have broke the world in half looking for her. Whether she left of her own accord or not. LOL at your Caroline voice impression. :X

Tyler wasn’t even gone for a month. He didn’t experience a full moon out of MF.

Yeah you were gushing … 😡

That baggage will never be address. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were joking about it in the coming season.

    Welcome back Alta!

    • “This could have been good” is TVD fandom motto.

      For real.

Oooooooh what if there was werewolf/witch? Like you’ve said in past episodes.

I feel like one should exist somewhere or should have existed at one point. Then again, werewolves are almost extinct. Then again that Slater-wannabe was talking about werewolf world domination like there’s enough of them to even attempt it. Speaking of which, I love how he was talking about world domination (for either species) as if the witches would just sit back and let it happen.

I think Caroline knows Bonnie well enough to know how she is around guys she likes and guys she formerly liked.

      True.

If that was Elena, they would have broke the world in half looking for her. Whether she left of her own accord or not.

Elena wouldn’t even have made it out of town before they caught her. And even though Jeremy lives in the same house as her, he wouldn’t have been the one to catch her either.

Tyler wasn’t even gone for a month. He didn’t experience a full moon out of MF.

      That’s true.

Thanks for the welcome back!!! I like the way the recordings sound now too.

  3. Oh, a new episode *happy dance*

    – This episode highlighted how weird the writing for Elena is. I mean, apparently she knew the whole time that Elijah was planning to let Klaus sacrifice her and she is a-okay with it? She is totally fine with that as long as her “loved ones” are protected, selfless angel that she is? Really show?

I don’t understand who the writers could decide on this ‘Elena = Petrova doppelganger = doomed’ arc and never have her freak out because *she* doesn’t want to die. Never show her scared out of her mind like you would expect her to be. It started in Rose when she had no reaction when she found out that her blood was needed for this stupid sacrifice. Ok, in ‘Katerina’ she had a break-down (but, iirc, it was more about that she felt that she was the reason that her “loved ones” were in danger, not because she herself was afraid of dying). And then she goes on suicide missions, makes shady deals, goes on trips to the lake house, no big deal. Even in ’The Last Day’ she’s only upset at the thought of becoming a vampire, not because, you know, a maniacal vampire is planning on killing her that night. So weird.

I can’t help compare this storyline to BtVS S1 and S5. And BtVS handled that kind of storyline so much better. I remember Buffy’s speech to Giles about how she only 16 years old and didn’t want die – and how much I felt for her. And in S5, there was this sense of despair and, I don’t know, urgency that I never – not once – felt during the entire sacrifice arc on TVD. Yeah, things were looking kind of bleak, the Salvatores were kind of worried about Elena (but they are always worried about her anyway) and that’s it basically? I don’t get it. (Also, how weird is it that we never got a meaningful Elena/Jeremy? But I digress.)

    – OK, I will go ahead and admit that I was disappointed with the Damon torture in this episode, lol. Like, I didn’t loathe Damon at this point (although I was slowly getting there; it was so horrible when he compelled Andie to be in love with him, that is such a gross violation of her mind that I have no words for it – and all what great parts of the fandom took away from that scene was “Awww, poor Damon, he just needs somebody to love him.” UGH!), but, yeah, like him or not, the guy deserves to be tortured. And it was such a let-down, lol!

Also, I see a pattern there:

First, Rose takes the wolf bite for him. And she is in so much pain! The show is very explicit in portraying her suffering. – Several episodes later, Damon is bitten by Tyler. And what happens? He sweats a lot and then he’s fine.

Then, Caroline is tortured by the werewolves (the werewolves who are actually mad at Damon). And she is in so much pain! The show is very explicit in portraying her suffering. – One episode later, Damon is tortured by the very same werewolves. And what happens? He snarks a lot and then he’s fine.

What can I say? That’s how this show rolls, I guess.

    • I know! Not once, not once did Elena freak out about possibly dying. She showed more emotion about possibly becoming a vampire. And you’re right that her freakout in Katerina was more about how this is all her fault. Stefan values Elena’s status as a living person more than she does. What is that? If you’re going to write a heroine who has no problems with dying, like ever, then why don’t you tell us why? And it just makes no sense: when Elena is being chased around by someone like Rose or Brady, she tries to stay alive. She doesn’t just stand there and let them get her. But tell her she’s going to be sacrificed, and she’s stone-faced. What?

Oh my God! I never thought of that. I mean even when Damon became delusional for like a second, it wasn’t as bad as Rose. Elena even got on a bed with him. Apparently she forgot what she went through with Rose. There are so many reasons why Elena just should not have gone to that house. I think Klaus can count as an example too. Katherine gets in front of Klaus and she’s so scared. He has her torture herself. Then Damon gets in front of Klaus and he’s talking to him as if he’s talking to Stefan.

      • I agree there is a pattern of Damon not responding normally to physical pain. Compare his torture scene to Stefan’s torture scene (tomb vamps). Stefan looked like he was really suffering but Damon was totally cool. Stefan was also shown to be in a great deal of pain when Damon stabbed him in one of the later eps. Damon didn’t notice that Tyler bit him until Katherine pointed it out to him. It may have started out small but by the time Katherine pointed it out to him, it was rather large. He was standing there confused as to the reason why Klaus didn’t pick him. He actually needed someone else to tell him what was going on with his own body

I wonder if this is because Damon is more disconnected from reality Stefan is crazy but Damon is crazier?

        • I think this extends to physical danger too. Remember when the Salvatores went to save Caroline from the werewolves? Stefan showed some apprehension before the fight while Damon showed no fear against what looked like overwhelming odds. Damon was like, we can take them. And Stefan was like, oh… I don’t know.

          • This goes along with what I’ve said about not seeing Damon genuinely afraid/hurt in the physical sense. It’s like he has a higher pain threshold than everyone else. Even Clark Kent on Smallville went through more pain in two seasons than this dude. Lol. And he’s an alien from another planet! It’s like they put Caroline/Rose and even Stefan through the emotional ringer to show us how bad the physical pain is, but as soon as Damon’s in the chair it’s suddenly not that bad.

        • Ironically, I’m OK with Damon not responding normally to physical pain (despite the fact that I like watching him in pain, lol). I’d agree that it might have something to do with him being disconnected from reality. I think it does make sense for his character. (But I also think the writers tend to go overboard with Damon’s intolerance to pain.)

What I’m slightly uncomfortable with is this pattern of how the writers put Damon (a male character, this isn’t about Damon as a character for me) in the exact same situations as several female characters. And when it comes to the female characters the writers go all out with the pain, the violence, the disturbing imagery (e.g. Caroline getting shot in the head and, imho, even Rose’s wolf bite looked much grosser than Damon’s). But when it comes to Damon/a male character? It’s suddenly not that bad. – I don’t know if I’m explaining this very well. Anyway, I think this wouldn’t bother me so much if I didn’t already have a problem with the way the writers are treating their female characters on this show.

      • Yes, Klaus should count too.
Actually, I thought of mentioning him and his interaction with Katherine vs. his interaction with Damon and then decided not to bring it up since he has a reason for being more interested in terrorizing/torurting Katherine – unlike the other 2 scenarios where Damon was/should have been the primary target. But yeah, thinking more about, Klaus should count. It makes no sense at all that he listens to Damon, talks to him and then leaves him competely unharmed (other than knocking him out or whatever).
And LOL at Damon talking to Klaus as if he’s Stefan. So true. Oh show.
