Episode 32: The Sacrifice

Apologies for the frequent slips into stereo and the other sound glitches I couldn’t get rid of.

Episode 32

In this episode, I welcome my first international guest! Ony and I talk about Julie Plec’s latest interview, Elena using people’s abilities as a bargaining chip, how she takes it personally whenever Damon attacks Jeremy, and two scenes that would have been better were the Salvatores kept out of them.

  1. Hey Ony!

    What’s the link?

I heard about this interview. What are they even talking about? Why would she even say that?

Plus Jeremy’s know Bonnie longer than Anna. :-\

Julie and Kevin have Joss Whedon syndrome, only without the writing talent. don’t they realizes doing this to Jeremy is taking away the one bright spot in his existence? His sister hangs out all willy-nilly with the guy who murdered him in his house, his parents are dead, his aunts and uncles are dead, his house it a bloody tomb where loads of vampires have opened invitations …. YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG GUYS!

This is almost exactly what Dania Ramirez said when she was talking about her own role in season 3 of Heroes. *sigh* “Maya’s sexier now …’ and that went nowhere!

Caroline and Tyler … whomp whomp. You know how I feel about that. They are bland as hale.

What is the big whoop with being a hybrid? Werewolf-izem is a curse. Why would you want that? Elijah and Clause are half-brothers or something? I hope they don’t kill Kat.

There is no security for that house.

At least they don’t call it voodoo. When white people see a black person doing magic it’s voodoo and that would be all kinds of problematic on this show.

I swear the look is just Damon’s influence over her. He planted forgiveness for him in her. Blech!

I wish Rose would have told Elena “I’m centuries older then them. If you want to see them die, then send them after me.”

Elena could be a little bully if she wanted to. Elena’s got a magical vagina.

Ohhhhh doppelgangers! Elena is the opposite of Katherine. I bet Kat is totally annoyed by Elena. She can’t even comprehend her. Elena’s existence torments Katherine.

I would have screamed for Stefan. Damon being there holding her against a wall is gross and too much.

You love Damon’s semi competent line. 😉 you love it!

At the end of this series they’re going to show Elena waking up from a coma (that she got from car crash) and all of this was a dream.

Jeremy is right but no one listens to him at all. Because Damon called him a child.

I think Bonnie got caught up in the moment. She was in a frame of mind where she didn’t care, she just wanted to get Stefan out.

I just dropped my nail file with that whole Anna/Jeremy & Bonnie/Jeremy power bit. :\

Okay Alta … with the stomping on my werewolf/witch hopes.

That’s a big gripe with Bonnie/Jeremy is because Bonnie has watched Jeremy grow up. But they must forget that he’s watched her grow up too. I imagine that Bonnie is some months older than Jeremy.

Steven really does want to make out. OKAY! 😉

Julie’s going to mess them up. I guess it’s good that I ship ships that will never sail.;P

OH GOD THAT’S SO NASTY! Elena wants to be sexually harassed? UGH!

“I got winner guys! I got winners!” whenever there’s an awkward moment I’m going to think of Luka’s shoehorn line at the Grill.

    Hope away Alta. Hope away.

Bonnie dreams about ghosts and that was a family member who wanted to communicate with her.

Zach did a really good job with the emotion Matt was having in that moment. I felt really bad about that.

I can see Luka and Jeremy bonding over their sisterly problems. BRING BACK GRETA!

WTF journal. I don’t even get it. Pointless. Ugh!
If I was with Caroline I probably would have wanted to watch that video by myself. It’s too personal.

I like this way because I didn’t have hear a whole lot with Damon.

Rose is a running fool. She came back for some Damon sex. Yuck.

Link it please. Link them all!

    FF.N is horrible. :\

I wish Rose would have told Elena “I’m centuries older then them. If you want to see them die, then send them after me.”

      I know, right?

You love Damon’s semi competent line. you love it!

      Noooo!!!!!!

I just dropped my nail file with that whole Anna/Jeremy & Bonnie/Jeremy power bit. :\

The thought of you listening to the podcast while filing your nails all cool-like is so hilarious.

Okay Alta … with the stomping on my werewolf/witch hopes.

Lol! I meant in general! Of course I’d love any guy as long as he helped Bonnie grow and she helped him, and she wasn’t thrown under the bus for his development.

OH GOD THAT’S SO NASTY! Elena wants to be sexually harassed? UGH!

No, the person was saying that if that’s sexual harassment, then she wants Damon to sexually harass her.

Bonnie dreams about ghosts and that was a family member who wanted to communicate with her.

I was letting my Charmed background influence my view of the TVD witches. Ony made me realize that maybe in this universe, witches can only see ghosts if they summon them. Like, the ghosts have control over who can see them and who can’t. That would take care of those moments when someone dies and we don’t see the witch seeing their spirit (I wondered that a lot in Charmed).

I like this way because I didn’t have hear a whole lot with Damon.

And yet it was still long. Lol.

      • Hi Ony!

Why is he forgetting anyone that he loves? Jeremy was using her for a large part of their relationship and by the time he called her on it they were, at most, friends. He was definitely affected by her death but it was another death in a long line of deaths that affected him.

If the storyline is going to be about romantic relationships about Jeremy feeling conflicted about romantic relationships with dead girls then it will stop being interesting incredibly fast. I don’t know why Jeremy’s desire to be a part of the fight and Bonnie’s desire (temporary or not) to keep him out of it can’t be a conflict between them. It’s a very real conflict and would make for a more interesting story. I’d actually love it if that’s the way that storyline unfolded since Jeremy’s going to keep it a secret. I’d love Bonnie’s first response to be the danger that comes with keeping it a secret.

Caroline and Tyler are Romeo and Juliet if Romeo was the only Montague that mattered and their families didn’t care about them dating. They need to get it on and get it over with so screen time can be spent on something else. Especially since they are going to do it. Why waste time listening to them talk about how horny they are?

I voted ‘Other’ but I meant keep the sun-moon curse and change the way they drew out the storyline. The writers could have taken steps to create an actual mythology surrounding the Originals, if that was what they wanted, tying them to werewolves and witches through the curse, which still could have been a lie, but not a lie born of curing Klaus or anyone else, but of protecting the actual curse (which I guess may be a bit convoluted, but it would allow for all the Aztecs killing Europeans that apparently went down). Or maybe aspects of the curse coming from different places (Aztecs/African/Europeans) would have suggested different elements being added on to the curse by different cultures (combatting possible adaptations that vampires and werewolves developed to whatever the previous curse brought about) so there would be many layers to the spell or many spells. IDK. I think they wanted to create a mythology with the curse and they botched it, so the curse should have been a way to track the history/source material surrounding vampires and werewolves and to understand the various ways that witches have been protecting humans from vampires and werewolves since whenever those two groups came into being and furthermore those two being at war with each other could be explained by the spell too, since at some point the witches could have cursed the werewolves with vampire rabies or something in order to prevent the two groups from working together. The sacrifice could have come about in Europe…considering and been used to fortify the spell with human blood and the doppelganger could have arouse in order to help break the spell or refortify it…I don’t know.

The show acted like the werepire thing was a big deal when it’s only real benefit is invulnerability.

Maybe Klaus is going to turn into a good guy or remain a bad guy to torment his valentine Stefan.

I think David Gallagher is the werewolf, but I’m pretty sure he’s going to die because he’s only in two episodes.

I noticed that Alaric wasn’t naked.

The disrespect this show has for magic is gross. How hard is it to have the characters say magic? It has fewer letters and syllables than everything they choose to use. Why can’t they use Bonnie’s name most of the time? It’s gross.

It would be nice if Bonnie (or Jeremy or Caroline or Matt or Tyler) would mention or say that “You mean I’m (Bonnie) is going to do something?” Because let’s be honest if this show didn’t have magic everyone would screwed.

Eye contact! A lot of emotions are being exchanged. Sometimes I feel bad for Delena fans because the show isn’t as subtle or smart as they think it is.

Elena pulls out the big guns, but doesn’t use them. It’s not likable, but it would be something.

Why does Bonnie not being attracted to Damon mean she’s in love with Elena? Why would this be something that fandom thinks?

I thought we were supposed to think that Elena was being hardcore in that scene? Abrasive and direct and out for information.

YES! I kept on hoping that her wanting to die would turn into her being actively suicidal or at least pretty fucked up from her parents death. Jeremy tried to kill himself and was killed the next day and the show never deals with it in a way that suggests that he wanted to live. That dying made him realize he wanted to live.

He threatened to break her arm because he loves her and because he’s willing to act to protect her! He wouldn’t have actually broken her arm! Or one of the other arguments that usually get thrown around in that scene. I don’t think they’re a good ship and I don’t understand why people see sexual chemistry between them but I also do, if that makes sense? Like the writing is clearly skewing in that direction. Damon’s humanity is weak if that is what Elena is bringing out in him.

Season Two: Stefan Didn’t Do Much.

But they didn’t need Katherine for that information. They could have contacted Isobel’s aide or Isobel on their own.

I bet Stefan’s going to magically know about Bonnie’s weaknesses next season.

Bonnie and Jeremy could have made his plan work and no one would have gotten stuck in the tomb.

The heavy focus on Elena is what leaves people like Alaric (who is useless but was possessed by the big bad later) free to be possessed and Matt and Jenna free to be compelled and everyone willing to die in order to protect Elena. Which makes the show about her but is a messy and problematic way for it to be about her. It’s hard for her to have agency within that context, especially when the triangle is thrown in.

I was really happy when Jeremy was upset with her in the finale. Most of this fandom is so afraid of conflict. It’s like they’ve never watched television before.

Everyone acts like Jeremy is so much younger than Elena and Bonnie.

Elena/Stefan is seen as a relationship of equals…even though they aren’t (they were better in s1 but s2 ran that into the ground) and they can’t be really. He listens to her and lets her act on her own, more or less, but they’re still in a relationship where he is bent on protecting her. I don’t know. There are problematic aspects to the Stefan/Elena relationship that the fandom tends to ignore because Damon treats her horrifically and by comparison every other relationship on the show is a certain picture of health.

I still ship Bonnie with everyone, but I get what you mean about her dating a human.

        Jeremy is so direct.

Can Damon sexually harass me? There’s a tendency in fandom (in general) to gloss over scenes that are more sexual harassment than sexual chemistry with “I hope *insert male character played by *hot* character* harasses me…harharhar” and it is always gross.

They wanted to have three triangles going on, for symmetry or something.

There is the possibility that ghost can choose who can see them, but that still leaves the question of how Jeremy is able to keep it a secret.

Matt! I thought his apology was great. He was so clearly distressed by what he did. He remembers what he said and did, but he doesn’t remember why and then Sara died. It’s a huge mess. While their situations aren’t comparable, Caroline in s1 is an example of the effects of compulsion and I wish the show would explore how that could damage the human mind/memory. Not in a big angsty way, but more of a…idk. Just a way to explore what the effects of compulsion ultimately are on a person’s personality. (Andy was clearly negatively effected by being compelled.)

I do think he started crying or at least dry sobbing.

Caroline should have had some serious feeling about compelling Matt. I mean after what happened to her last season. But OH I forgot she and Damon are BFF’s now. N/M

Yes. Someone, who laid it out better than I will here since it was her idea, was saying that they could explore this very interesting dynamic that Bonnie and Jeremy have where she’s the one with the tangible power and he’s supporting her journey. For a teenage boy and teenage girl it would be very interesting especially in light of what Bonnie did in 2.21 where she was able to render him totally helpless. And her idea was that it would be done in a way that wouldn’t be summarized in “He just wants to feel like a man/his manly ego is bruised.” She was saying that this could be something they have to deal with from time to time. It was a great idea.

          That’s a really good idea.

Exactly. The scene I remember is on Charmed when Phoebe was trying to come up with a spell to save their butts in like 2 minutes. Prue went, “How we doing on that spell?” And Phoebe went, “You know you keep throwing that we around and I don’t see you doing anything.” It was great and a nice moment. Didn’t mean she was mad at her or that Prue was useless. Ugh.

Flail or vent
