Episode 28: Plan B

Episode 28

In this episode, Kiara joins me to bid goodbye to Mason.

We talk about Kat Graham’s Teen Choice Awards nomination, the shadiness of everyone involved in Mason’s death, and how Elena can’t spend one minute without knowing what’s going on yet she hasn’t talked to Bonnie since Caroline became a vampire.

  1. Hey Kiara!

    You’ll come back
    No way.

Maybe they’ll get a new writer.

    Accent, so cute.

I want to sent Kat thing to even it out.

Elena is not listening to Caroline…

YES Mason with his tattoo! SEXY.

TRUE the only difference is the curling iron

The sunlight streaming in. Once again! Waking in the sunlight.

I don’t know why Mason is such a “bag guy”

I love that Mason doesn’t trust anyone. Also lets talk about how Elena is so afraid of Katherine, but she will send her “friend” Caroline back to her with a quickness, just because she’s pissed that Caroline is spying on her. THIS FOE DRAMA IS A WASTE OF TIME! These scene could be put to better use by developing another character. SOMEONE ELSE!

    Everyone gets over on Elijah,

It is about Stefan. .. What a waste. “his fate hangs on the tip of her finger.” I really love that.

Elena is a projection of everyone else hopes and dreams for her or something. She’s not her own character and she rarely if at all gets any character development.

Elena is not Buffy by any stretch of the imagination. Joss Whedon may be a huge dill hole but he knows how to develop a character. And Elena is a very weak character. She tries to come out sometimes, but the writers hold a very tight rein on that.

Jeremy is better written than Elena and the show is about her …. :\. Jeremy likes blood/knife play. *shrugs*

Jeremy/Damon … WHY! Jeremy has got a master plan. Jeremy is playing a patient path to Damon’s demise. He’s going to kill him. This is what I believe.

Damon doesn’t have any respect for himself. And I guess what he has for Bonnie is more fear than respect, but he will not say those horrible things to Bonnie’s face because he knows it will burn a bridge … until Stefan tells Bonnie to do it for Elena. *side eye.*

I don’t like that Damon gets these lines.

I feel like season 1 finally is cut off from Season 2 season premier. No one holds the emotional gravity of what they did in the finale. I guess Bonnie was shaken up but Caroline’s accident and Damon was shaken up by Katherine’s return. Founders Day was so much darker than The Return.

That’s so weird about teen wolf and Tyler’s parents.

Omg lol dorm sex Omg! I hope you had dorms.
I was thinking it was the compulsion.

    BONNIE! I LOVE THIS SCENE!

If Bonnie wants to get sometime she has to get turned. And that’s not going to happen.

Caroline’s a princess. Caroline only feels like she died when she’s around Katherine or when Katherine is mentioned. She is afraid of Katherine. Her behavior is in character though. She uses other things to distract from her real problems.

You don’t care about Damon Crying! You are in the minority Alta. :[

    “ISOBEL’S RESEARCH!”

I don’t like that Damon knows things about witches because that means a witch doesn’t have to be in the scene to tell their own story. :[ I also think the reason Damon doesn’t know about the bleeding is because the witches play that close to the vest. OR Damon does know and he doesn’t care. *shrugs*

Damon had to do it so that he could learn a lesson. That is disgusting.

I haven’t even re-watched the season finally. :[ mhm they book ended the season with Jeremy’s death.

    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! This show. 😥

LMAO “I don’t care about Meredith”.

“Isobel’s word is more than the witches?” Because the witches are black y’all. Lets see if they think the same when the white one start showing up redeeming shit.

Damon likes to hear himself talk. I’m telling you guys, Jeremy’s got a master plan.

Bonnie and Elena in the scene …! I love when Bonnie calls Elena on her shit. I wish they showed Bonnie looking bored whenever the conversation turned back to Elena. I bet you all of that off screen stuff was about Bonnie and that’s why it was off screen … I keed.

LMAO oh no they cached Bonnie up so she would be useful.

    LMAO Spice Girls!

I can believe Caroline going to Bonnie and Bonnie helping her because that’s her friend who’s in trouble. I can see and believe it. I also kind of wished Bonnie went to invest the Lockwood’s herself.

Elena didn’t tell Bonnie because she knew how she would react. What does that tell you:

That tells me that Bonnie is a downer who can’t understand the vampire plight. smh

I love that Bonnie was calling her on it!

    Like Mags says: Doppelganger pheromones.

    Don’t me started on Greta!

    FOR ELENA!

Stefan asked her and they have a weird vampire/witch bond. … I can’t.
    She’s blaming Caroline for this. I can’t.

It’s the same episode when Stefan falls down the well! O_o lmao!

    Elena is a crap friend.

The “dirty work” line is fail

Bonnie has visions … we just don’t see them okay. I kinda think Bonnie should have went to Elena instead of Damon. Maybe Bonnie thought it was apart of the “Break-up Plan” for Elena to go make out with other guys to make it more believable. *shrugs*

Elena should have told Damon to stay away from her brother. And she should have been pissed off.

If Jeremy said something like: He’s your friend.

Elena would have stood there gob smacked and then the Salvatore brother’s would have been there in a heart beat reprimanding Jeremy for hurting his sister’s feelings. Bet.

Maybe the Gilbert’s are really twisted and then when it’s mixed with the Pierce blood.

I’m telling you it’s in the Gilbert blood.

Nothing’s wrong with surfers. Damon is hating and you can see right through it.

And then Matt says: Hey. Like he didn’t start it.

Caroline is taller and she wears heels. Of course he had to fall for Caroline.

I think Caroline/Stefan is end game.

Vampires wanna be staring something. Damon’s going to put his two cents in.

What about a poster? Fab four … I’m burning up.

I love how Tyler made a face when Jeremy talks about researching the stone. Hilarious.

Is that why it’s called Plan B? Plan Bonnie and then Katherine’s thing?

Elena can’t be normal. Elena can’t be out of the loop. I hated her bugging.

I didn’t like Damon grabbing her! I don’t even know why that was necessary and I wish Bonnie hurt him for laying his hands on her. I mean, really?

LMAO Stefan would have been like: Oh I can’t ask her anything anymore! *dies*

I didn’t like Damon touching Bonnie.

Lets talk about how Elena kept Jenna in the dark for months! Months! Jenna’s boyfriend new more about her situation.

Bonnie give and the Salvatore’s/Elena take and that’s how witches keep the balance /sarcasm.

    GOD ELENA! With the Phone!

The Point of the phone call is to leave Bonnie/Damon alone.

Bonnie doesn’t want to be out of the loop again and so she keeps her mouth shut … just like a good handmaiden should. … 😡

I hate that Damon calls them “the bad guys” I WANNA SEE THE RECEIPTS! I am so sure that Damon has a higher body count than Mason.

    FOR ELENA

Bonnie is alone. The Powers That Be (TPTB) systematically took away all of Bonnie’s family members (who would have her side) and shifted her friends away from her. Her choices are join them or be utterly abandoned.

Damon pulls that Elena card … Bonnie just lost Caroline. I can’t even!

Mason and Bonnie. Awww but I’m so sad. Bonnie kept the table upright with her powers. Or one of the brothers was in there. H’m I be Mason smelled vampires near but probably thought they were just lurking around.

I think it’s just the healing thing. I think Bonnie could give it to a human.

Bonnie got into the car so they could get the info from Mason.

I don’t think Elena told Bonnie about Caroline almost killing Matt.

Caroline is kinda like Annie from Being Human. You made me realize this!

This takes me back to when Mason ran up to Bonnie and asked her how she got stuck with all the heavy lifting. And even before when he bumped in to her. They have known each other before these moments. Elena is not the end all be all of the world. Please take into consideration other people and their family members. I want Bonnie to change he mind in that moment and stand over Mason warding off the Salvatore’s. How badly do I want the Lockwood’s and the Bennett’s to stand up against the vampires.

How about why did they leave the Moonstone in the Tomb with Katherine? They are Morons!

OH YOU NOTICED THAT TOO! She moves and his leg moves against her. URF!

Bonnie was leaving because she didn’t want to be there when Damon started the torture. I think she might have known Damon was going to kill Mason. Bonnie’s face looks so scared.

Punching Mason to wake him up is counter productive. But you forgot to mention Damon thanking Bonnie. 😡 I love that Caroline’s face when Bonnie says yes.

I get that Stefan doesn’t really care about Mason, but Elena should feel bad about it. She’s known Tyler longer than Stefan … This is so sick.

I love that Stefan walked away from Elena and I love that Matt said he wasn’t going to ask. He knows how Elena is. I hate her running after him though. She really is desperate.

Mason spits on the floor even though Damon (and Bonnie) put the tarp down. He’d so defiant. The torture scenes are too gratuitous. I can hardly watch it.

How did Elena catch up with Stefan.

When Mason was getting tortured it was horrible. Damon had to kill him because he started something. He couldn’t let Mason go after what he did to him. SMH

YES! I want Bonnie to do a spell with wolfsbane.

    I can barely watch!

That naked looked like a Black Mamba. But Stefan’s mouth is so clean. *eye room*

There is a continuity effort. Caroline helped Stefan out of the well but she didn’t act burned when she touched him. That scene would have been nice, but I don’t think they were there yet. Maybe they could have that later. I always think that Stefan could go ape-shit and try to eat Elena in front of Caroline and Bonnie.

I think it’s irresponsible to leave Damon alone with Mason.

Mason would not believe Damon about Katherine. The truth would have had to come from her mouth.
Mason begging Jeremy to help Tyler. BROKE MY HEART!

Jeremy should have regressed when Damon put his hand around his neck if you think about the last time Damon’s had his hand around Jeremy’s neck.

Mason’s eyes when he dies. That is some fine acting from Mr. Taylor Kinney.

    I CARE! 😥

Elena must have washed and ironed her outfit and that’s what takes her so long.

Can Tyler pay sports anymore? He’s too strong and might hurt someone.

Why don’t the tare down the set to build Bonnie’s house. WHAT! Say it again!

I also don’t think of Mason as a bad guy. :[

Damon is just fertilizing mystic falls with bodies. Smh

    Jenna is clueless and vulnerable.

Jeremy Gilbert is a Scary MoFo!

I would have loved if when they were in the room (that mason was being tortured/murdered) that Elena commented on the smell. Because Damon was sticking Mason with hot pokers. :[

    I can’t with Damon/Elena.

Maybe Katherine distracted Caroline so toughly that Caroline had no time to give Matt vervain. God forbid Matt have an arm band or something.

It was more than annoying when Damon was torturing Mason. I can hardly watch that scene it’s too much. L

Lol at your Glee for Bonnie\Jeremy. J so sweet!

    • And Elena is a very weak character. She tries to come out sometimes, but the writers hold a very tight rein on that.

      Agreed.

Jeremy/Damon … WHY! Jeremy has got a master plan. Jeremy is playing a patient path to Damon’s demise. He’s going to kill him. This is what I believe.

      Lmao! That would be great.

Elena would have stood there gob smacked and then the Salvatore brother’s would have been there in a heart beat reprimanding Jeremy for hurting his sister’s feelings. Bet.

Lol! They would have straight converged on Jeremy’s ass.

There was a poster with Candice, Nina, Paul, and Ian. It was a dress-up shot of them in the Salvatore mansion.

Caroline helped Stefan out of the well but she didn’t act burned when she touched him.

True! That is a continuity error.

  2. episode 28

~ It’s scary how good a job Kevin and Julie think they’re doing with Damon. My mind is blown every time they open their mouths.

~ The fact that they tweeted her to the point where she felt she had to post is just incredible, but Kat has always taken the brunt of fandom’s hate. But I’m never surprised by fandom’s capacity for idiotic and offensive behavior.

~ Tyler/Caroline as Romeo and Juliet is lame for so many reasons but primarily because that play isn’t what people think it’s about and it’s a stupid thing to do because Matt took himself out of the picture. Why are they going to create fake obstacles? Why can’t they just be in a relationship?

~ Them being bad at it is meant to cute. I’m pretty sure.

~ As soon as the show removed Katherine’s teeth, she was just Elena with swagger.

    ~ It is teamwork, yo.

~ He stops drinking her blood eventually though, right? When he goes on that road trip with Damon he drinks from the blood bag. This makes the finale so much more problematic. Though I’ve been able to figure out a way for it to work, but there should have been some mention.

~ Jenna is not a good guardian. She’s not a good guardian. The history teacher who dies in Friday Night Bites actually tells her she’s in over her head in Night of the Comet, after she says that it’s been easy being a guardian and that guy was an asshole, but he was right about that.

~ There’s a tendency in fandom to call Elena and Stefan the parents and I don’t get it because Stefan is just not that guy (I honestly think that from s1 to episode two of s2, he has amazing reserves of emotional strength. I think Stefan is just in control most of the time of his own person and he can be this pretty strong presence for someone, especially in s1, but he is not a dad) and he and Elena work together in ways that do more to protect Damon (and I’ll stand by the fact that it makes sense for Stefan, there’s just a better way to write it) than to counsel or help others. They are not the sources of emotional reason on the show. Bonnie is but the show forgets that in favor of framing Elena and Stefan tag teaming people into not confronting Damon as a positive thing.

~ I loved Matt and Liz’s exchange: “It’s like she died.” “She did.” Because she did and this vampire thing is a big deal. It’s frightening. It’s death and then something otherwise unheard of and their reactions are normal and rational, but that exchange was painful.

~ I was wondering what the vampire part even was. Maybe like a tiger’s eye stone.

~ If they do a time jump then they’re going to have to start focusing on having an actual timeline. Anyway a time jump would only work for Stefan’s storyline and whatever situation they’re going to create between Elena and Damon. I’d actually prefer a time jump for Stefan’s storyline (I’d actually enjoy not seeing him for about six or seven episodes) because I think the show tends to be really simplistic with him when it comes to who he is as a vampire instead of his role as Elena’s boyfriend and Damon’s brother, so I time jump could potentially help that in some way. And Elena/Damon needs a time jump because anything else would be gross.

Jeremy’s storyline definitely does not need a time jump.

~ Damon letting Jeremy get shot was ridiculous because he could have just sped toward Liz and taken the gun from her.

~ Julie said that it’s the 3rd season so it’s about time we met Bonnie’s father, but she said it like it was a joke.

~ 7 originals, a possible 3rd doppelganger, and they still won’t manage to give storylines to the characters on the show. They were better at managing all the characters in s1.

~ communication! so many problems would be solved with some communication.

~ Bonnie/Elena and Bonnie/Elena/Caroline are only highlighted when the show needs to make a point about friendships.

~ A WARM BUCKET OF SPIT. LOL

~ I don’t actually understand why Bonnie would agree to speak with her ancestors about saving Damon’s life, though the show does suggest, from what I remember, that it’s because Stefan asked, but that doesn’t make sense. It would have made sense in s1 but not now.

~ I was thinking of what you said about Stefan’s hearing and I think the show goes back and forth on what vampires are capable of because he used his super hearing throughout the first few episodes of the show.

~ It’s dirty work because if you’re not with the Salvatores you’re against them.

~ My biggest problem with the magic on the show is that we don’t see magic. We don’t hear magic. We hear about it, but we don’t see the full extent of what magic is.

~ Even though I shipped Stefan/Bonnie (well I did in s1), I would have never thought that she said she saw Elena and Mason kissing because she liked Stefan. I am oblivious about 90% of what goes down in this fandom.

~ The s1 finale was repeatedly rendered a moot point by the entire season.

~ Jeremy having some resentment would actually be interesting. It would create some genuine conflict.

~ 98% of Matt’s dialogue this season are complaints or backhanded compliments about Caroline. Their relationship is the only time I don’t like his character and it was almost all he got this season.

~ I tried to like Tyler/Caroline. I really tried but part of me can’t get into them because their shippers act like his treatment of Caroline is vastly superior to Matt’s. I was into their friendship, but as soon as it became romantic I just couldn’t get into it.

~ “Lois and Clark” The writers think they’re allusions are better than they are. I feel like too many statements about the writers can begin with “the writers think” and end with “are better than they really are.”

~ Elena and Stefan’s fake break up was irresponsible. It’s meant to be cute and a show of how much they love each other but it’s irresponsible. Did I mention before about how it’s important to tell other people once you know about vampires/supernatural things? Because the fact that fandom tends to ignore that Elena could have prevented Jenna stabbing herself or Matt being compelled to provoke his own death by telling them that there is a doppelganger of her running around is ridiculous to me. Make up a code word.

~ I did some unpopular opinions about TVD the other day and one of them was about how Stefan being the good brother is this huge simplification of both their characters and Damon doesn’t need to be made any simpler and Stefan being the “good” brother is restrictive and not true.

~ No one gets to be a threat to be Elena even Elena acts this way.

~ I shipped Mason/Bonnie for half a minute because of proximity. I can ship Bonnie with everyone except for Damon.

~ re: Elena hugging Matt first after he finds out about Vicki/not telling Tyler about his uncle – I probably seem ridiculous with my Matt feelings by now but I need for that to be a thing. It’s probably not going to be a thing but I need so badly for it to be a thing that I might write eventually one day. Because I was so angry about it when it happened. She knew and she didn’t care. She still doesn’t care. In the episode where Vicki is turned and Matt is trying to find her, Elena already knows what happened to her, she knows Stefan is going to track her and she tells Matt nothing because Stefan asked her to and I just need for her being the first one there (after Caroline) to be something that he has a problem with. But I exist in a world where this show is about the humans and Bonnie and not about the Salvatores at all.

~ It makes no sense that she would tell Stefan to be careful. He’s a vampire. Her concern is understandable, but he is a vampire.

~ Kevin Williamson is going to fuck up The Secret Circle and not just because he is obviously not invested in establishing a mythology around witches. At least not the black ones. But he’s going to fuck it up because those books are actually much better than the TVD books and he’s moving the setting to Washington state when the books are set in New Salem for a reason and the cast is all wrong and it’s just going to fail all over the place.

~ I couldn’t look at Damon torturing Mason. It was one of the cruelest things the show has ever done to a character.

~ Elena only cares about Caroline and Bonnie when it’s convenient for the show to show their friendship. Otherwise her anger gets directed at Damon or Stefan but her concern doesn’t get directed at Jeremy or whoever else may be hurt.

~ That Caroline/Bonnie scene you described should have happened. I wish it had happened.

~ I felt so badly for Mason. Mason could have been an ally, but that would suggest that the writers think they need allies or recurring characters.

~ I thought Jeremy helping Tyler and them developing a friendship off of that

~ This is where the bug eyes start.

~ I can’t even talk about Damon in this episode. I’ll just repeat myself a whole bunch and most of it will amount to how much the writers are just not very good when it comes to making him a coherent or logical character in terms of what is actually going on.

~ Death doesn’t matter on this show. Which is one of my biggest problems with the show because it should matter and fandom acts like death matters, but the deaths don’t really change or add or contribute anything to show beyond maintaining the status quo and to get the characters to cry for about twenty minutes. That’s a problem that exists more during this scene.

~ He ripped Gina Torres’s heart out last season.

~ Caroline gets her mother’s approval in a scene that is more genuine than what happened in the finale and it’s a brilliant scene but it is given a reset.

~ This fandom doesn’t like conflict because this fandom is scared of growth most of the time.

~ I guess Matt, Bonnie, and Jeremy are the only ones who still go to school.

~ Damon is actually pretty stupid. Katherine ended up not having any of those plans, but it was a pretty good scene at the time.

~ “Send my love to Stefan.” The greatest. I love Damon’s status as Forever Alone. OTP for real.

~ I assumed Katherine compelled her to cut bread with that knife.

~ So I’ve got Matt personal!canon around Carol being okay with him being Tyler’s friend and I don’t think she has any more respect for him than she did for Vicki or his mom. She thinks he’s a good kid, but he’s also not a threat.

~ Paul gives a good cry. He always looks so wrecked. Which is my favorite acting cry.

~ I always thought the “It doesn’t matter” was more of a “nothing you say can change what happened” but since she’s specifically talking about having to break up with Stefan when she says “katherine won” then there’s a problem.

~ I actually think the show is better at doing the doppelganger wants to ruin the life of the person who looks like them for Katherine, who continually views Elena as a threat for Stefan’s erstwhile affections; though the finale throws all of that out of the window by having Katherine basically say that she loved them both.

~ We have no idea how Caroline put Matt on vervaine. I’ve always wondered if one vampire can out compel another vampire’s compulsion. Because I always figured that’s how Caroline put Matt on the vervaine.

    • He stops drinking her blood eventually though, right? When he goes on that road trip with Damon he drinks from the blood bag. This makes the finale so much more problematic. Though I’ve been able to figure out a way for it to work, but there should have been some mention.

How does it make the finale more problematic? They really half-assed that storyline (if we can call it that) for Stefan. That time with Damon in the car was the first time he drank from a bag. He told Damon that he’d been drinking from Elena. And then we don’t know if he continued with the bags or if he continued with Elena.

They are not the sources of emotional reason on the show. Bonnie is but the show forgets that in favor of framing Elena and Stefan tag teaming people into not confronting Damon as a positive thing.

Yes! I’ve never heard anyone call Stefan and Elena the parents, but I agree with what you said.

But I exist in a world where this show is about the humans and Bonnie and not about the Salvatores at all.

So do I. And in that world, Damon died from a were bite because Klaus doesn’t have convenient magic blood. Or UJ killed Damon for force-feeding Elena his blood. Or Bonnie did.

Death doesn’t matter on this show. Which is one of my biggest problems with the show because it should matter and fandom acts like death matters, but the deaths don’t really change or add or contribute anything to show beyond maintaining the status quo and to get the characters to cry for about twenty minutes. That’s a problem that exists more during this scene.

      Agreed.

Love the personal canon about Matt/Carol. This stupid show has a goldmine of interesting characters and conflicts and relationships it could explore, but it ignores all of it.

      • I figured we’re meant to assume that Stefan’s been building up a tolerance for human blood or at least lessening his 75 blood bags a day habit, but then he’s all willing to kill because Klaus forced him to drink a lot of blood bags. It was weak, but having Stefan drink blood throughout the beginning of the season makes it weaker. Oh and he drinks about five bags of blood after the fight with Damon over him force feeding her his blood. So continuity issues that wouldn’t be issues if the show hadn’t made Stefan’s transition so easy.

After the first three episodes of s2, I saw a few Stelena shippers calling them the parents because of how they handled Caroline.

Klaus’s blood is…why we need to know more about werewolves.

  3. ‘Plan B’ was such a frustrating episode. I’d never have thought that the writers would go this far with gratuitous violence (and then still expect the audience to root for Team Salvatore). It feels like they wanted to make a point about the show not just being a “teen” show or something like that. The problem is that they don’t really care – or maybe even don’t realize? – how much they damage their characters in the process.

It was really disturbing to see Jeremy assist Damon – his murderer!!! – in torturing Mason by handing him the wolfbane. That was so wrong on so many levels. As was Damon’s behaviour towards Jeremy – I guess we’re watching now a version of the show where Damon snapping Jeremy’s neck never happened.

By the way, where was Alaric when the torture/murder happened? Are we supposed to believe that he was OK with it? Mason was Jenna’s friend. In retrospect, this can be seen as foreshadowing Alaric’s reaction (or lack thereof) to Damon abusing Andie, who, of course, was another friend of Jenna’s. At the time I was really shocked about Alaric, but I I guess I shouldn’t have been. In a way his character was only being consistent.

I also really don’t appreciate that the scene in which Damon finally kills Mason is painted as being all about Damon’s self hate. I guess it does make sense that Damon sees himself in Mason (although Mason wasn’t being as naive/pathetic as Damon when it came to Katherine: after all, he hid the Moonstone in a well filled with vervaine and ignored Katherine about not messing with the Salvatores). But it does not do the scene justice to solely focus on this aspect. I mean, Damon’s main motivation to kill Mason was the simple fact that Mason was a werewolf. He was primarily motivated by irrational hate against a complete species, not by self-loathing, but that is completely swept under the rug. — Well, I guess that’s the way this show wants to have it: all of Damon’s horrible actions are all about Damon, how ‘beautifully damaged’ he is and how much he hurts, blech.

Yeah, Elena was annoying in this episode, especially with her constant texting Stefan because she needed to know everything RIGHT NOW. In retrospect, it is somehow ironic that she was so pointelessly worried about Stefan in this episode and in the season finale – when Stefan was, for once, really in danger – she couldn’t care less. (What did she text him in AILD. “Are u OK?” or something like that. Compare that to the wording of her texts in this episode, lol.) — But that is not to say that I would have wanted her to be all about Stefan in the finale. She should have been with her brother and dealing with his death/resurrection.

    • Mason was Jenna’s friend.

Oh my God!!!! That never even occurred to me! Why is Alaric okay with Jenna’s friends being killed/abused? Wtf? And let’s not forget in The Dinner Party, he was more worried about Jenna finding out the secret than about the fact that Damon was abusing her friend.

Word on what Elena should have been doing in the finale.
